1. April Fools is one of those holidays where most online communities can't help themselves but come up with something to tease and joke around with the members of their sites. The gaming community being among the biggest on the internet to do so. From fake news to forum pranks, the gaming community always gets its audience. Here are some examples of how the Halo Community got the April Fools mischief out of their systems last week. Our Affiliate Site, HaloCustoms got a few members good with their simple and eye-stinging April Fools Day prank. At first when you logged onto the site you would see bright colors that actually hurt my eyes to look at it in the morning. You could choose color schemes at the bottom which some found to be a cool feature but the original was a real eye sore like I said. Here's what I saw when I logged in: I'm pretty sure I died for a minute. Then I remembered HaloCustoms allowed for the switching of themes at the bottom of the page so I scrolled down and after two attempts I got back to the regular HC skin. As you can see there were two choices. I clicked the "HaloCustoms" style thinking it'd give me the original and it stayed as the horrible colors you saw above. So like an idiot, I went back and clicked it again thinking I must've messed something up only to realize that part of the prank was exactly that. What you had to do what choose the "April 1" style. Not my proudest moment . THFE does a video each year for April Fools to please their fans. Last year they did a hilarious video about changing their name from The Halo Forge Epidemic to The Used Silverware Epidemic and announced that they'd be selling used silverware because video games are bad . You can watch last year's video right here, it's a guarantee must-watch: This year The Halo Forks Epidemic did not fail to entertain their subscribers and fans again with their new update video. This year THFE showed us a new take on competitive gaming in Halo: Professional Flood. Major League Flood was started by Psychoduck's good friend who's a real pro at the Flood gametype XXProSnipesMLG420XX. Find out how you can become a MLF by watching the video below: And as for us here at 343i.org we didn't really do much. We had a major malfunction after Red was doing some site updates and something very private was exposed for all to see on the site. Unfortunately our Staff forums became visible to all members and they even took the liberty to post in them as you can see above. The first to notice was @HollowPseudonym who is now on permanent watch under the Moderators' eyes. Though I must say this wasn't the worst thing that could've happened to us especially on that day of all days. Our real April Fools Prank was staging a fake fight between D-38 Boss and Edward Kenway and then saying they were both shoutbanned (when in actuality it was really only Edward Kenway who was shoutbanned LOL). At least we got a laugh out of this mishap because people got to see what really goes on behind the scenes here. Here's an example of what I mean, given to you by our beloved Site Moderator, RedStarRocket: You see, it's not all fun and games here. Sometimes we talk about the serious stuff too. Twam was actually so annoyed that he just took off that day and was considering not coming back. He made Red the Admin and the rest of us Moderators and just straight up retired. Fishy Sparky Yes it was a historical event on the site. I'm just glad everything is back to normal. It seems everybody did an April Fools Day prank except for us? We'll just have to get you next time members .

5. On Sunday, February 23, I will be hosting a game testing lobby at 7 p.m. CST. This game lobby will involve one of my game types and one of my map variants. We will test map variants (that have Oddball support) created by members in the lobby with my new Oddball game type, and we will also test some various game types from other players. We will play six to eight matches, and then I will take feedback and criticism. I will then promote someone else the party leader, and will split off to Theater mode. It would be very appreciated if players are not AFK or joining and quitting during games. If you find game flaws or exploits, do not continuously exploit them. All members are welcome to join, and we will have a prep lobby. To join, just simply post your XBL Gamertag and the link to your game types and map variants.
6. Forge Planet- just two words that keep ringing in my ears. The desert, the shore, the jungle, the caves, the meadows, the forerunner architecture, the tundra, the volcano, the mountain, the islands, the human colonies, the ocean, the crash-landed covenant ship... It is the most beautiful place in the universe, all thanks to the Cloud, Only possible on Xbox One. Forge Planet on Halo 5? Is it possible with 8 GB RAM, 32 MB esRAM, 500 GB of storage, Blu-Ray discs, DirectX Tiled Resources and the power of the Cloud? You decide!
7. Duel-Wield Puzzlers - A 2V2 Style Puzzle Map Created by Juggacly v1.1- 1. Fixed challenge #3: was able to exploit by jumping off the wall from the previous challenge. 8. As previously mentioned in the Second Runner Up announcement, we are grateful to the forge community for their hard work and the number of quality submissions for the contest. We had a lot of fun judging, testing and playing the maps and were pressed hard to make the cut and final decisions. It takes a great deal of talent and understanding of forge, and especially Dominion, to create an environment that has so many standards that need to be met to provide the core Dominion game play as well as interesting map design. Both the Second Runner Up and the First Runner Up winners have done this with an interesting back story that provided the overall aesthetic platform for their maps. Typhoon, by DUN3Z, was set around a crashed ship aground on the rocks and this map was just as creative in design. The First Runner Up is......... by Xinshu Sticky Fingers is based off of a collapsed orbital elevator and features a distinct mix of natural rock terrain and man made structures. The map has a 'rib like' section that brings back memories of Burial Mounds from Halo 2 and the overall use of varying height levels and subtle inclines provides players with a wide array of ways to aggress and defend both the bases and different tactical areas of the map. This was found to be useful when using the rocket hog against the Wraith by allowing for quick skirmishes and then a hasty retreat or as a Spartan laying fire on the bases or strong points by advancing just far enough up an incline for line of sight. The bases on Sticky Fingers are more isolated than normal, but each one offers challenging ways for attacking and defending the capture terminals and the surrounding structures. Overall this map provides solid and interesting game play, challenges the team work needed to win and does so with a unique concept in map design for Dominion. Congratulation to Xinshu for winning First Runner Up! Download Sticky Fingers THFE Feature Video Second Runner Up Announcement
9. So I was thinking about this pretty strongly... should 343i include a free, community made map pack? It would be filled with maps for each game mode, and some extra aesthetically pleasing details. The maps might be made by THFE, or they could be by unassociated map makers. I think this would improve community morale, bring players back to Halo, and be lots of fun. Also, they could add these maps to the official multiplayer playlists or even have one of its own. Obviously it would take place on the four forge maps in Halo 4, and they would be equally varied and distributed. I think this addition would be promising. I know that they do already have community maps in War Games, but I'm asking for a full fledged map pack that is treated as so and even includes achievements. Anyways, guys, your opinions?
10. Meet your Maker Testing Lobby Welcome to the new weekly testing event for MYM. This event is meant as a testing resource for forgers, looking to polish maps before submitting them to MYM. As a Judge on the MYM contest and Dominion Host at THFE, I will be able to provide valuable feedback for potential MYM Submissions. What kind of maps can I test? This event is centered around potential MYM maps. Since MYM is focused on dominion, we will only test dominion maps WE WILL NOT TEST A MAP THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN SUBMITTED TO THE MYM CONTEST. Can I test with a custom gametype? NO, Since MYM does not allow custom gametypes, we will be testing with the standard Dominion Matchmaking gametype Should I post my map in the submission thread before requesting testing? NO, Maps will not receive feedback or changes after being officially submitted to the contest How do i get my map tested? Simple just reply to the thread as follows Example: Map: Corrosion Gamertag: AbleSir Thomas Film: Yes, I may not make it to testing How do I join testing? This deadline may be announced sooner if there is a high rate of map submissions. (4.) Maps must be available in your fileshare. This allows the host to quickly progress between submissions.
11. "Conversion is an asymmetrical, progressive-objective based game mode. It has many similarities to modes such as Invasion and Territories in Halo: Reach alongside a balanced weapon setup and the smooth gameplay of Halo 4. It is a blend of some of the best features from the Halo series and it will fill the void many feel in the series after the removal of asymmetric game modes with Halo 4. While many people have tried to make similar modes to try to recapture Invasion in Halo 4, The Psycho duck and I decided we wanted to create a standardized mode and map type so that many people could become involved not just in playing Conversion, but in making their own maps for it. Because the mode is standardized and the maps designed around it, anyone who has played the game mode could potentially make their own Conversion map. There are 2 completed Conversion maps fully tested and ready to be played right now, both created by Duck and myself, but there are also many more in the works or in the planning stages by other members of the Halo community. The game type is not modded, so for those of you who prefer to shy away from modding this mode is completely legitimate." - Flyingshoe ILR "The first of those maps is Firebase, a medium sized Conversion map set on Ravine. Firebase uses Ravine's terrain in new and interesting ways in order to feel like a completely different place, yet still feel rooted in the Halo universe. Firebase features a Rocket Warthog for the attackers and plenty of power weapons for both teams. Gameplay is fast paced but strategic, and positions of power on the map are often as important to hold as the objective itself." - Flyingshoe ILR Firebase Map Variant Download Conversion Game Type Download <<<<<<<<<<o>>>>>>>>>> "The second map is Colony, a large scale Conversion map set on Impact. This map is much larger than Firebase and more vehicle heavy, with a Rocket Hog, Ghost, and Mantis roaming the map and more power weapons at the player's disposal. Colony flows very differently from Firebase but still follows the same formula, and teamwork and communication are still the keys to victory." - Flyinshoe ILR Colony Map Variant Download Conversion Game Type Download <<<<<<<<<<o>>>>>>>>>>
12. Okay, we have been teased with video clips of the new game type "Conversion" for a couple of days now and finally Psycho Duck has released a completely detailed video on the game type. He discusses the idea behind "Conversion", how the game plays and what gap it fills in the playlist for the community.

14. It appears the is a brand new game type that has been created and THFE (The Halo Forge Epidemic) has the inside scoop on it! Here is a recently released video that teases the view with a glimpse of some game play footage of this intriguing new game type. Take a look.

16. Very simple thread. Do you like Shmeefs, yes or no? Why? If you don't know what "Shmeefs" are, click this URL:
17. Stronghold Forged by The Fated Fire Stronghold v2 Gametypes: Team Slayer FFA 5 Site Single Plot Extraction 3 Flag Player Count: 8 (4 v 4) Weapon Set: Rockets (180s) 2x Sniper (120s) 2x Shotgun (90s) 2x Needler ( 60s) 2x BR, DMR, LR, Carbine (30s) 4x Frags, Plasmas, Pulse (30s) Stronghold is a rockets/dual snipers competitive map that draws inspiration from Sanctuary and Onslaught. Stronghold follows a two base - two tower - two hut design, with the huts providing an alternative power position to counter the towers, ring two, and the opposite hut. Stronghold hosts a diverse selection of sightlines, from curving lines of sight around the main structures to long, horizontal and diagonal sniper sightlines through the middle structure. Rockets drop bottom mid, Snipers drop in the trees to the right off spawn, and Shotguns are placed in the cave to the left off spawn. Each team has a base, hut, cave, and trees that they can call their own. Sniper and rocket control is key on Stronghold. Instead of putting snipers in the hut like Sanctuary did, I placed snipers in the trees/rocks. This sniper location is very vulnerable and contestable by the other team, and forces the sniper to work his way back into a power position instead of being handed one.
18. Chronos Chronos is a medium sized symmetrical ring shaped map for 4V4 matches. The idea of this map was to create a somewhat circular map with different "rings" circling an enclosed atrium in the center. The result was a Forerunner themed structure slowly being taken back by nature with various height differences and crossing sightlines through the middle atrium. Screenshots: Download: http://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/players/squally%20dabeanz/halo4/fileshare#!/?section=GameMap&SearchDate=7&SortBy=2&view-select=Tile&startIndex=0 Chronos is set up for Infinity Slayer, King of the Hill, Capture the Flag, and Swat. Slayer and Hill played as well as I had hoped. However, CTF and Swat were surprise hits on this map, offering a lot more depth than I had anticipated with those gametypes. The straight shot through the deadly center made Flag surprisingly fun, forcing players to skirt around the edges with the flag. And the varied sightlines through the center and segmentation of the map makes for some great Swat matches. Any and all feedback is appreciated!
19. Boardwalk By LANK3Y PROZz and a little by HELLBOY1201 This is a recreation of the well known and much loved (and much disliked) map from Halo Reach; Boardwalk (if you hadn't already guessed). It is very true to the original in that nothing major is missing from the layout and the weapon set is the same, except for the Plasma Launcher (which is of course, is not able to be done) which has been replaced by the Sticky Det. 22. Being named "Member of the Month" Is an honor. I'm very grateful to receive this respectable title. Also the pInk text is awesome . I don't want to gloat or go on an epic monologue, so I would like to give a few shout-outs. I want to thank Dizzy_Dan from the newsgroup. He conducts interviews with members of the community and recently did one with me . He was very patient with me and my delayed(sometimes silly) answers. He also has been a huge help coordinating events and providing insightful feedback on maps I want to thank Absolute Dog. He has been very helpful and accommodating to THFE, and our slow(but sure) transition to 343i. He has helped keep the forums safe and clean for all. I would like to thank the forgers/players for participating in the weekly "Tuesday Night Tests". It has been a blast testing all of the new maps and working with new forgers. I would also like to thank the forgers for submitting and providing feedback in the THFE submissions section. The continued support is fantastic. Thanks for reading. I hope i can be a good Mom while it lasts.
23. Who has the better Railgun? Hello! I have a minigame map and gametype for everyone to try. Gamertag: SixWaysToSunday Map: Throne of Rails > http://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/players/sixwaystosunday/halo4/fileshare#!/?section=GameMap&SearchDate=7&SortBy=2&view-select=Tile&startIndex=0&details=70aef0c5-1808-484c-898b-5fe19eafdbbb Gametype: Railgun Massacre FFA > http://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/players/sixwaystosunday/halo4/fileshare#!/?section=GameSettings&SearchDate=7&SortBy=2&view-select=Tile&startIndex=0&details=30070162-b8f6-4d85-9027-8ae2a6ae4cb0 Player Count: 4-10, best at 8. This is a railgun only FFA. The map includes two teleporters, two elevated platforms, an instant kill barrier outside the building, and a single line of sight blocker. It's designed so that players spawn into combat, sometimes looking directly at each other. The gametype has only railguns with infinite ammo. Each player can beatdown and assassinate, which creates map flow by giving an incentive for players to flank. The scoring has been modified so players earn a point for each death, creating strange scores that people often comment on after playing. The lead player has a waypoint and overshield visual (not an actual overshield) so players know who to target. The spawns allow you to modified the gametype for teams or multi teams, although it is designed as a FFA. Please try it out and send me feedback through my gamertag or these forums. Thanks and I hope you guys have fun!
24. Here it is, part two of the second Interviews with the Stars Double Feature! Here's a member of one of the most esteemed Forging and map reviewing groups in the Halo Community, The Halo Forge Epidemic, and their Dominion specialist: AbleSir Thomas. DD: "AbleSir Thomas, how long have you been involved in Forging in Halo?" AST: "I started forging soon after the launch of halo: reach" DD: "What interested you about Forge in Halo: Reach?" AST: "I enjoyed playing playing Invasion in matchmaking. Unfortunately 2 maps just wasn't enough, so I set out to forge my own Invasion map. My first map was called Outpost FW. It was an invasion map that spanned most of Forge World. I spent about 6 months forging it. Of course being my first map, it was a colossal failure." DD: "That sounds really cool! So how did you get noticed by The Halo Forge Epidemic and become part of it?" AST: "After about a year into reach and 2 failed invasion maps, I joined a random custom game. Oakly was host, at the time he was testing his "Island Complex" map. It looked great, but played awful. After everyone in the lobby said it was awesome, Myself and Yardbird told him it had issues. We brought him into forge and explained invasion theory. He was impressed. One thing led to another and we made our first video explaining basic invasion design on spire." DD: "That's sounds pretty awesome. Were you familiar with THFE at the time?" AST: "At the time of that custom, I had no idea what THFE was." DD: "Wow and you became part of the biggest and most knowledgable group of Forgers in the Halo Community! And what gained you the title of being THFE's Dominion Host AbleSir Thomas?" AST: "When I started playing halo 4, I immediately became fond of the Dominion game-type. It has many of the cool game-play elements from Invasion (attack and defend game-play, heavy weapons, lots of map movement, etc) but with more flexibility for forgers. I focused all of my efforts into learning and building for the game-type. I collaborated with allot of talented forgers and players. We worked to identify similarities between the Matchmaking Dominion maps. We then implemented those ideas in forge, which resulted in some quality maps. This process is still ongoing. Most of the maps we've worked on have seen hundreds of revisions, to nail that Matchmaking feel. Here are just a few of those projects. Outpost 7.4 by Unwanted soul 91 Catacombs by Wraith 2098 Corrosion by AbleSir Thomas Scrapyard by Mexican torta 7" DD: "I know Wraith and Torta and I know they're very skilled Forgers and I've actually played and featured your map Corrosion and it's not only a very good looking map but it plays very well. Thomas what do you think is the most underrated aspect of Dominion? What do people overlook most that you think if they appreciated, they'd enjoy it more?" AST: "One of my favorite aspects of dominion is base busting. Breaking an enemy's teams control over base and clearing it, is one of the most exhilarating experiences in Halo multi-player. This is achievable on all of the MM dominion maps. The basic strategy is to send players to the "weaker" base, ( the base with less players usually) have those players surround the objective and attack from multiple angles. Sometimes you can have players in a position to cutoff or delay reinforcements to a location (ghost is boss at this). At times this results in epic, almost "movie swat team" style base clears. Assessing a team's control of a map and breaking that control, with smart decision making and teamwork, is really what makes Dominion awesome." DD: "That absolutely makes Dominion sound cooler to me than it did before although I was a fan of it already. Would you argue that Dominion takes the most skill and strategy to play than any other objectives? And why?" AST: "I wouldn't argue that it takes the most strategy. Each game type supports certain elements of strategy. The strategic elements in Dominion are just different than other objective game-types. Dominion is less about individual skill and more about teamwork. Examples include: Making call-outs when ordinance is available (both friendly and enemy). Calling out enemy positions and using team-shot or ordinance to deal with aggressive pushes. Quickly moving ordinance to powerful positions to counter enemy map control. Timing an attack on a base to deny a resupply or steal power weapons as they drop. Putting pressure on a base to allow for a flank at another base. Deciding when to reinforce or abandon a base. Exploiting weaknesses in base defense setups, to allow a capture( sending a rocket guy through an unprotected doorway). Most of the strategy in Dominion focuses around communication, quick decision making, and team coordination." DD: "Very interesting! So AbleSir Thomas, what do you look at when reviewing a Dominion map?" AST: "I first check the basics. Things any map should have. Does the map have playable frame-rate? Can player orient themselves and navigate easily on the map? Is the map interesting? (height variation, visuals, theme, etc.) Does the map have good movement options? (good cover, routes, and proper sight-lines) Then the dominion specific stuff. Traits that all of the MM Dominion maps share. Alpha/Charlie segmentation (Sight lines between Alpha and Charlie must be blocked) Bravo Dilemma (Bravo is the only base with influence on both opposing bases. This can be based on sight-line control, route control or both. Bravo is somewhat difficult to hold) Alpha/Charlie flank (At least 1 path between Alpha and Charlie, that Bravo has little control over) Objective based spawning (You spawn at bases you own) Well placed Objective drops (At least 2 per base, on every resupply, in easily accessible locations) Vehicles (Must be in accessible locations. Are a part of base balance) Base layout (Proper segmentation, at least 2 entrances, and some verticality) Dominion objects (Base stripes, barricades, base shields, turrets, and monitors all add to the "MM Dominion Feel") Of course on top of all this we vigorously play-test possible features. The maps usually undergo a dramatic evolution over the duration of testing. Some maps have had massive rebuilds to accommodate feedback. While others have had a large amount of minor tweaks. My Map Corrosion has been completely rebuilt from the ground up, about 4 times. My new map Impass has already had it's Bravo base rebuilt." DD: "Wow so much more goes into Forge than I thought haha. So let's get into the knitty gritty part of being apart of quite possibly the most renowned Forge map reviewing team: The Halo Forge Epidemic. Recently you were a part of a predicament with a mapmaker who submitted their map to the Competitive Map Submissions for THFE. When you give feedback to Forgers and it's something they don't want to hear and they react in a negative way? What do you do about that? What do you say to that?" AST: " But in all seriousness I do my best to work with forgers to improve their maps. I try to clearly communicate my feedback. I will often join authors in forge after a game. To provide suggestions and seek a "compromise" to address an issue. In the case of the Submission forums, I don't have time to play maps for authors. There are just too many submissions. I look over them in forge and try to make them aware of "potential issues". I also do my best to test maps. Most of my feed back in the competitive forum invites players to submit to TNT, to get a wide variety of opinions from forgers and players after a game. FlyingShoe ILR made a very interesting write up regarding feedback, I recommend forgers read it." DD: " Great answer. So AbleSir Thomas, it's been great and it's time to end this thing and post it and give the community something very fun to read so I ask you: what is some advice you give to learning Forgers or to the Halo or Forge Community in general?" AST: "To forgers starting off. I recommend doing your best to be open to input and suggestions from other forgers. Look at whats popular (in Customs and MM), try to figure out why those maps work and try to "assimilate" those ideals into your own forging. With these ideals in mind you can add your own twist based on your personal preferences and creativity. Attend as many customs as possible, try to connect and network with as many forgers as possible. As a forger your supporting the community. When you respond to input and integrate good design you will create maps that the entire community can appreciate." Everyone please give a hand to THFE's AbleSir Thomas, the operator of Tuesday Night Tests which he mentioned in his next to last reponse. Catch TNT here. Also fun fact: in the question about Forgers reacting negatively to feedback, AbleSir originally just used the picture of Ackbar for his answer which I thought was hilarious but then later edited and added text because he wanted to give a good professional response, which he did! Thank you AbleSir Thomas for taking the time out when you could to complete this interview and thank you 343i Community Forums for showing your support in these little threads. HAIL
25. Map: Our Daily Bread Gametype: Hungry Disciples Description: Our Daily Bread is a linear Flood map set in a bread factory with two holdouts. Players spawn in a low set hall surrounded by walkways. The Flood instantly attack you from behind, then from the front. Push up the stairs and through the corridor before they can overrun you and make your way towards the first holdout; a huge atrium. Find a turret and a few shotguns and set up until the 1:30 mark. The Flood can attack from many angles, using the old conveyors high above the atrium and the strategically placed cover. If you survive until the door opens, push forward and aim for the final holdout. Staying strong right from the start is truly game changing. If you loose even one or two players early on, you will have a very hard time making it past the first holdout. But if you stick together, you just might reach the bountiful loafs you have been searching for. Our Daily Bread really is a very fun map to play with clean yet interesting aesthetics. It has dynamic features and a clear goal that promotes teamwork and coordination which is what I believe makes a great linear Flood map. I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for taking a look.
