p34NUT : Look I see where everything is coming from. Of course someone better than VI deserves it. But let's not forget that deciding who gets the title isn't something you do in 1 2 3. The mods think of someone they think deserve it and about everytime they disagree at some point. Then they'll have to figure that out and stuff. Things take time people! Time the mods might not have because they live a real life outside of these forums.

Mom has increasingly lost is value over the months.

Just a few months ago when a new Mom was announced you has a massive page saying why they have earned the title and it meant something. You knew why they had earned it.
 
Now all we get it one of 2 lines along the lines of
 
 
They have been a good member, friendly in the shoutbox, oh and they did *Inset reason*
 
So they have earned Mom.
 
 
And I have been noticing that a lot on the most recent Moms. So one could assume they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel.
 
Or maybe the requirements for Mom have really gone down low so just for *insert reason* You have earned Mom.
 
But really.... No member has really done anything amazing in some time.... So you an really see they earned it.
 
Now I am not going to name the Mom but he put in a post he got it back for having a good return
 
But that isn't the way.... A Mom must be more than that
 
If they really did not have a member for Mom this month.... Just say it !
 
Don't  hide it behind lies, I would rather know the truth than have it hidden away behind fake reasons ( if this is the case )
 
Or maybe they actually did do this promote TGFW, then if you did then I don't see how making a Bot a Mom is helping at all.

This is unfair to all the member here that actually deserve it ! Being a Mom means that you have done more than most member and have stood out from the crowd and earn your position ! Not to give it to a Bot to advertise a bunch of playdates !

 

 

I would be perfectly happy for Redstar to come out tomorrow and say they cannot decide on a Mom for this month.

This is why MoM should be voted on by the previous MoM's.  We previous MoM's are plentifull in size, and get around the forum much better than staff and mods.  We have a different perspective of what we think qualifies someone as worthy of the title.  We reflect on what we did to earn it, and what made us different.  Mods and Staff seem to have a simple written out criteria for it.  MoM, should be by the people for the people.  Aloow MoM's to choose who becomes the next MoM.

How can you justify saying that the last few MoMs have been a couple of lines and that we've lowered our standards?

 

P34nut earned his month through his hard work with news. JXZAW earned his MoM award for doing an excellent job helping out the art department.

 

To say that we are scraping at the bottom of the barrel discredits what these members have done and is disrespectful.

 

Next.

 

The moderators did have a few options to choose from, but just because we went with VI it does not discredit what these members have done. They will receive their recognition soon enough.

 

Saying that we are lying to cover our indecisiveness is just flat out ignorant. If you want to male claims like that then go ahead. But seriously, don't demonize the staff because of an assumption you are making.

 

We are not covering anything. We have been honest 100%.

Also about that rant, It is just my opinion after all not saying JX didn't do good work in the art dept. I just think personally the title of Mom has lost is worth. But of course that is to be expected as it is passed around. A perfect example, member titles.

 

Also I am not saying all the recent Moms have not done some good work, for example the Dumb marine he had that awesome art show thing.

 

My point is that I just remember with the older Moms that you had this big line of text why they got it and now that line of text is just shrinking and I feel it could be longer.

Let's step in and clear this up straight away.

 

The 'MoM' award is given out to members who go out of their way to do something for the site. Do we have members on the site who currently fit that criteria? Absolutely. The decision to use this month's MoM to promote a special event wasn't done lightly and in the end I made the decision because I thought it would be a great way of helping draw attention to TGFW and give the members something to get excited about: I actually expected we'd get a very positive response to this.

Part of the problem we have is that the biggest thing we have going on-site at the moment is TGFW, and because organising it has taken so much work behind the scenes we find ourselves in the very difficult position of having a good four or five eligible members who've given up very large amounts of their own time to help plan this summer's events and to ensure that they run smoothly. The staff owe these members a huge debt of thanks, but it wouldn't be fair of us to go back and analyse every contribution they've made over the last few months of preparation in order to tell those who aren't selected that, in essence, we don't value their own contributions as much as those of the new MoM.

 

The other alternative was to have multiple MoMs for July, but we felt that would be a cause for upset and a perception that the title had been devalued. It's also worth noting that there is a precedent for using the MoM to do things other than just highlight the contributions of individual members: those members who were around when we first became affiliated with THFE will no doubt remember that, to coincide with the joining of sites, we chose one of their staff to become a MoM, even though their own accounts were completely new. People seemed to respond well to that, and so I assumed we'd get a similar reaction here.

 

This wasn't a decision we made lightly, and it certainly wasn't because we 'don't feel anyone deserves it' this month: we honestly thought that most members would enjoy the idea and that it would help increase interest in our TGFW events. I hope this post helps explain why we made this decision, and that even if you still don't agree with it, you'll believe me when I say it was done with the very best of intentions. If there's still a general consensus that this was the wrong decision after you've read this, then we'll revisit our candidates list and choose someone to wear the pink as normal.

Really well said Red and thank you for clearing this up . I think we all just got a little bit confused and it got a bit out of hand. But it's alright now cause we all understand and have gotten over it. So we're all good .

The current active mods who vote for MoM's have been themselves MoM with the exception of Drizzy_Dan and Mayh3m but whome which were both staff for extremely long periods of time, and one being a legendary member. To say that you get around the forum better than staff and mods is pretty unfair, we all get around the same, literally what difference is there? The most active members of the site are all moderators, shouldn't that enough be something to say? If the most active members are moderators, shouldn't we have the best eye to see which members have stood out amongst the pack?

 

Staff like Art/Communications/etc do not choose MoM's, this is a moderator only decision, and it's been a moderator only decision ever since the first choosing, which resulted in yourself being the first ever Member of the Month. To just change it for "MoM, should be by the people for the people" is unreasonable. Are we moderators not people? Talking to members over the years, including MoM's, shows that they would more likely vote for their friends if given the opportunity to vote for MoM. Moderators don't on the other hand, we have to limit friendships for everything we do, that being moderating or choosing MoM's.

 

That in short is why Moderators will be sticking to the decisions of those who throw out names for MoM's and finally decide on who will be crowned pink, and if anyone doesn't like those points above, Twam also has said he wants only moderators to pick.

Actually P34nut started news AFTER he got MoM Mayh3m, not before.

 

This is from the April MoM post: So with the month of jokes comes a new MoM, someone who is not only a good influence and a fun guy around the forum, we bring you the 1v1 master (read more here).

 

No where in the post mentions news unlike Edward Kenway's MoM post.

 

This is from the February MoM post: This month's MoM is someone who has worked even harder than most to earn his new status. It's not simply that he's been producing almost as many high-quality articles as our official News Group put together (read more here).

 

Also I have to agree with Caboose on this one. Look at the February MoM post then look at April's MoM. There is certainly a lot of difference also Kenway got his for doing a lot of news and putting the news group out of business in a way but he did an amazing job with it and it says it in the post. P34nut (not being mean bro) got it for being a funny character and didn't really do much but after getting the title, he started to do news like Kenway and he has a new goal to try to achieve.

 

I used Kenway's MoM post because you said P34nut got it for doing news.

Disregarding P34nut for his work isnt necessary he did a lot of events as well and even before mom he did a lot of articles. A mans actions speak louder than his deeds.
