Looks like I'll be getting my money back on my Halo 4 preorder.
Twinreaper replied to jdan81's topic in Halo 4
You never can tell. I imagine a great way to great way to impact sales and.ideas would best be displayed and tried at a video game store. I never knew I was known or loved so much jn the community. Usually I just piss everyone off! lmao -
A little harsh...maybe. Personally I just believe that as gamers, we should be entitled to hold the developers accountable for their product. I would much rather have a beta, than 3-4 product updates down the road just to address flaws and glitches they could have fixed from the beginning. I understand their are certain games that never use a beta, but those titles usually prove almost impossible to glitch or exploit by any means primarily due to the formats and engine specific.restrictions. Lets be honest....Halo has a stellar track record for being able to be modded and exploited...more so than any other title.

Funniest thing ever!!!! When I went into Game Stop on Friday to buy my second hand Halo 3 disc, the clerk asked me literally 5 times if I was sure I didn't want to pre-order Halo 4. Talk about pushy....... The guy was literally throwing himself and Halo 4 at me trying to get me to pre-order it. I told him calmly that I don't like what I see so far so, no I won't be pre-ordering. He then asked me if I even knew what I was doing and if I was crazy. I explained to him that I am knowledgeable in the game engine and the developer and who I was.....and after that he stopped bugging me. He actually heard of me before from around the various communities within Halo. It was epic to see that, but no so epic to see Game Stop employees forcing or "trying" to force pre-orders on customers. Just thought I would share that.... -
Putting out a Beta is not difficult or time consuming at all, at least on 343i's end. Basically all they have to do is edit the mainmenu.map file to only include 2 or 3 maps for multiplayer and maybe one from campaign. Then just up those certain files for download, and turn on the server. Really it would only take a team of 2 people 2 or 4 days to prepare and deliver the beta. Like Frank had said in the VidOC, they want to push the game and process to a perfect state without having any backend stuff to deal with. In reality, collecting the beta data would prove more usefull than a room full of playtesters whom may or may not game or trick things in-game the way the vast majority or the community does. There are only certain flaws that the community as a whole canf ind and bring to light. I hate to do it, but I'm calling 343 out on this one. In my eyes from dev timeline perspective, it's shear laziness and quite honestly, I see them not putting out a Beta, as a way to protect themselves and possible poor sales. Think about it. Say we got a Beta, and absolutely hated it....noone would be likely to buy it seeing as how they would have limited time to fix it and delaying it would not be an option. By not releasing a Beat, you are at the mercy of 343 to see anything regarding game-play inside MM and campaign, and those glimpses will be carefully edited and shown the way they want them to. This forces many players to see only what they want them to see, and trust the dev and leave it a mystery....possibly making hundreds of thousands more players to pre-order and want it all that much more. Laziness and fear.....thats all I am sensing here.

Yeah, no probs man. I figured with all the "NON BETA" crap 343 was throwing around, that the least I could do would be to try to create some of the new Halo 4 things insode Halo 2, and let people try out a close aproximation fo what is to come. Funny thing is, I already ahve the weapon tag data done, just need a new BR model to go with it,.
-
I think you guys are getting a little confused. Recoil, was a SMG specific "Z up" error that was added to the SMG only. If any other weapon did use it, it wasn't outside of Halo 3 and halo 2 though. But I can see where concerns would be warranted here. Obviously the vast majority of the community has spoken, and they do not want bloom back. But please also remember that Frank said that recoil was being added to the BR...which means that it will climb like the SMG when fired rapidly. Also, he stated that bloom will be used much different than it was in Reach, and be more specific in version and implimentation for each weapon...not an all around in general setting. We have to wait and see on this. Hopefully we will get a small taste of some better gameplay vids so we can see the weapons in action and get a real look at how they are going to pull it off.

This post definatly rings a bell. As an older and long standing member of the Old School Halo community, I can see points in everything the OP touched on. Sadly yes, I have seen the community fall in despair as well, right after Halo 2 modding died down...right around that time yes. It was however inevitable that the community would eventually branch out and break away from the core of what it was. As Dog said, the community that was, got older and either moved on or took different standpoints on things. And as younger members joined the fray, it evolved and became a new generation of community. Wether it is good or bad is strictly your own pov, but for me, I think it's great to see a community last so long and still continue to grow, even if it isn't exactly picture perfect. At the end of the day, it's because of the community that we have sites like this now, and can all come together.

Actually I would have use for the low poly version. I've seen and used some of your weapon models before Marty...very dynamic and very professionally done. If you don't mind, shoot me over an obj of a low poly version once you get it done. I would very much like to setup a weapon in Halo 2, to reflect the proposed functionality it will have in Halo 4. You know...kinda give everyone a taste of what certain weapons might handle like in halo 4.
-
Im undecided. Usually throughout my Halo career besides CnR....I never really get the chance to handle a snipe. But I have foind a new love for the Beam Rifle. I cant explain why...but I just seem to have an easier time aiming with it.

Cool it down a notch guys. Coming into a thread like this and flaming the OP shows you are no better than someon else who comes in and flames a certain game or person. Lets take it down a bit and let this guy excersice his right to post about what he saw in regards to Halo 4. Just because this is a fan site, does not give each and everyone of you the right to bash hi back. VidOC's and trailers alike are given to us so we can see what they are doing with the game. Not everyone is going to like what they see, or hear the devs talking about. Are you all gonna start bashing me next for my views? THIS...is the exact reason why I left when I did. Seeign all this hate now, just makes me want to leave you all to rot even more... You know what, just do me a favor, don't bother replying to anything I say or even talking to me in general. I'm about done. All of you need to re-evaluate yourselves and take a look at the things you have done or posted before you go even further. Really people...just let people vent about things in terms of games when they need to. Yeah, constant bashing instead of helping people to see a different view...thats a great way to build up this site and membership count. -
CoD may see their fair.share more with children...but Halo has the most immature teen thru 25 population I have ever seen. In fact, I'de rather deal with the CoD kids than the Halo community anyday....and this.coming from me!!!!!

343, I think you might get sued for copyright.....
Twinreaper replied to DerpWithAGun's topic in Halo 4
Thats not what he is saying. What he IS trying to say, is that graphically 343i looks to be immitating the graphical procedures that has lead Cryengine 3 and their platform to such critical success and innovation. While the models and style are unique, you can definatly see an inspiration that was drawn from their fantastic art team. -
We also need to.remember that the titles you mentioned did not exist in current kick-assery form back in the days of H1 and H2. And for the record, every game on the market takes a degree of skill or skills to be good at it. Do not diminish CoD and say it takes no skill. That alone is a perspective view of your own. I love Halo as well, bit as a mature gamer...I am able to appriciate each title and.genre despite what it may be. Halo's community is the most jaded and one sided in existence. I was around when it was new and have witnessed the many evolutions of it. Point being... as long as Halo.fans stays closed off to the gaming world, the more they and Halo alike.become hated.

343, I think you might get sued for copyright.....
Twinreaper replied to DerpWithAGun's topic in Halo 4
Here is something that will really blow your minds. For those of you in a younger generation, you may not have ever seen a little film called "Aliens". This was the sequel to "Alien". Go ahead and have a look at "Aliens", there is a ton of crap that Bungie obviously got inspiration from. The main ship resembles the Pillar of Autumn, the pelicans look like the space to atmosphere drop ships, and there is even a black commander who yells funny **** at the space marines and smokes a cigar. I wouldnt be suprised at all to find a few marines in the seriesnamed after Hicks and Vasquez.....lmao -
What's Halo? I heard it blows. (insert sarcasm emot here)

Again I must remind you all that Halo began as an RTS for the MAC, not console and not FPS at all. Just having Halo to be able to enjoy and play on console, should be something you are all very greatful for. As for concerns of hackers for it on PC....show me one FPS that doesnt suffer from hacks or aimbots for console. Second, the feel of the game does not get lost. I see and play no difference between halo 2 vista and Halo 2 xbox.

Rumour: Next-Gen Xbox Won't Have a Disc Drive
Twinreaper replied to Spectral Jester's topic in General Discussion
I think this one is purely designed to freak people out. The 360 is not going to be drive-less. They have already made elusive comments towards the fact that the new console will be supporting blu-ray. They have also made comments about the new box not supporting previous game titles. Now that could be looked at the way this rumor goes. No optical drive means no previous gen games will work. I dont see Microsoft taking optical drives out of the equation anytime soon. I could only imagine the horror that would come out of using solid state tech to distribute games. The amount of encryption creation time for something like that would be very expensive, and very expensive to duplicate in manufacturing. -
Am I the only one that has a major issue with this? I mean yeah I trust 343 to a certain degree...but there are some bugs amongst other things, that can only be properly tested and discovered by the community. Do things ike BXR, Quad-shooting, super jumps, wall glitches and barrier breaking ring any bells? Not to mention the myriad of things that went undiscovered in Reach due to the relatively short Beta period.

Undying Resistance Recruiting.
Twinreaper replied to Archangel Tyrael's topic in Clan Recruiting / Advertising
Unfortunatly I will be pulling out of the clan. My Reach disc is unplayable due to.a large crack in it. I wont be buying another or a digital copy either as funds are needed elsewhere. Sorry guys. Good luck! -
Since I never really venture out into mainstream MM...are you serious?!? They give you at max 4v4 for a competative taste of battle and thats it? Did they change this with the TU or has it always been that way?
-
Lets also not.forget that the tools used to.create H4 are already designed to compile on a pc and push out a format for the 360. Most or all tags used by the compiler are natively already compliant on the pc as is...the only tahs usually requiring any shifting in compiling for pc format are bsp, mode raw and collision/physics. Half the porting process is already done by default. It would not take long at all to.finish it up for pc.

Tephnos is correct. Without the confirmationa and plain out denial of having a beta released, this is the only way the community can convey their concerns in regards to what we saw in the reveal. If they want to make Halo 4 as good as they can and please a wide majority of the masses, they need two teams to take on MM. A team towards competative, and a team towards casual. Have both teams work on seperate components of MM and have 2 distinct main areas of play to choose from. This way both sides have a "Halo" they can play and if they choose, to cross play on. Not force us with certain aspects. And what is wrong with posting negative comments about the reveal? the reveal was meant to inspire people to start talking about what they saw right?

Please don't ruin Halo 4 matchmaking like Bungie did with Reach...
Twinreaper replied to Mezz's topic in Halo 4
Yeah I do suck at MM in Reach. But you being better than me has nothing to do with real life or anything for that matter. I have neither the time or means to even try to game competitively. Hey man, I respect your MLG standpoint and I have no doubt you have skills, I never called that into question. I have not tried in any way to redefine skill as you stated, I was simply illustrating ways you can look at events differently. One thing I do find common among competitive types, is how quick they are to pass off blame as "luck" or "broken mechanics" when they miss a shot or lose a battle they feel they should have won. Now I am in no way saying that is you, but if you go around forums for all Halo communities, you see this is true. Actually I think you make some good points in your posts and for the most part you truly seem to understand how to translate what happens in game fairly well. For the most part, because of our difference in play style and type, I think we should just "Agree to Disagree" on the skill and mechanic issues. I like debating with you on these issues and I hope we can go on from here and do it again sometime. We both seem to bring in some great points and issues and it would be really beneficial to this community if we could continue to do so. Cheers mate!
