  1. Information surrounding the Halo Wars 2 Beta was leaked accidentally in the Xbox Store today: supposedly ahead of it's planned reveal at Microsoft's E3 conference on June 13th. Said leak apparently was a result of Xbox Director of Programming Larry Hyrb aka 'Major Nelson' following said page. Based on what was shown, the Beta will run from June 13th to June 20th. The full list of info gleaned is below: "Be among the first to experience the explosive return of real-time strategy to the Halo universe in the Halo Wars 2 Multiplayer Beta for Xbox One", the opening paragraph reads. Will run from June 13th, 2016 - the day of the Microsoft press conference, but not confirmed at what time - to June 20th, 2016 specifically for Xbox One. Windows 10 was not mentioned. Requires an Xbox Live Gold Membership to participate. The Beta will be 13GBs in size. Number of players capable of playing the Beta on one console is restricted to just 1 while it's up to 6 online. The Beta is 100% open, and can be accessed by anyone on it's launch date. As an indirect response to the leak the official Halo Youtube channel has begun uploading intriguing yet haunting '101s' regarding the events of the first Halo Wars. What this means not only for the sequel but for the original is yet to be determined. The canonically-first episode of the series can be seen here. You may or may not be aware that Halo Wars is being considered for the backwards compatibility program(incase you don't know what this is go here and vote Halo Wars, and any other games you might want) and is doing surprisingly well at keeping on the first page; amassing over 28 thousand votes. Judging by the comments I've read most of the people who want it accepted no longer have an xbox 360, and since there are no RTS games for the one they are in dire need for it. Due to the high demand(compared to other console RTS games), and if it stays on the first page, it is guaranteed to be accepted. Thanks to a complete lack of competition from other RTS games on the one(there isn't any) this means there will be a massive influx of old and new players alike, and when backwards compatibility becomes available to everyone outside the preview program there will be an even bigger increase in players. I believe that with the new players there should be a new patch, or at least a patch some time afterwards, and with more people playing it gets easier and easier for 343i to be persuaded to do some changes; or even better start working on a HW2. Before all this happens though we need to sit down and discuss what changes need to be made, and then submit them to 343i. This is quite difficult because the community is essentially nonexistent; scattered and divided or simply not interested in HW anymore. You have casual players that still hop on every now and then, but they seldom care for a game they hardly play and are unlikely to discuss changes to it on the internet, via forums or whatever. At the other end you have the closed, tight-knit high level community who have basically given up hope of any changes, and again are unlikely to discuss any changes. Most stay in contact with each other through XBL or even have their team mates on their phones, facebook, whatever. Some top players will give their ideas when asked though. The very few of us that love this game, and are willing to reach a consensus on what needs changing, need to do so right around now or at least start. Personally I'd like 343i to focus on fixing the plethora of glitches present in the game; arby rage glitch, chieftain vortex glitch, canny glitch, vampire stasis glitch, undead banshee glitch, sniper tower/energy wall glitch. It would also be a good idea to have a go at improving the pathfinding too. Combined these fixes will completely change the way the game is played. A new Halo Wars for a new generation.

I'm thinking that 343 Industries could make a new Halo game for the iPhone, Android, etc. using Halo Wars, Clash of Clans, Rival Kingdoms and Star Wars Commander as inspiration, just make it their own. I'm thinking their company could try reaching out to mobile phone users and also people who don't have the time or patience for traditional rts games. I would buy it. How many of you would? Anyway, me and Self Destruct have teamed up to form THE BEST DUO EVER (don't quote me on that) and we've begun our long (short) and enduring (horrible) partnership with one of my favorite RTS games Total War Rome II! Wait... It's not TW Rome II? We don't do PC playdates? What the hell is that crap! Anyway, HALO WARS. We'll be playing Sunday the 21st, or maybe a different time depending on if SD says it's okay, I never discussed times. From about 1pm-3pm, so three hours or whatever, it may go longer, don't quote me on that either. Halo Wars is 6 people so once we reach the six person cap, I'm sorry but you'll have to wait for someone to drop out before you can join in. Now some rules that Self Destruct approved (not). 1. Have fun and RUSH ALL THE BASES! 2. If you berate or attack another member, I do not care what the reason is, you will be booted swiftly and possibly reported on-site if the attack is severe enough. 3.   13. I think 343 should include a RTS/FPS hybrid game mode. When I play Halo wars I always look at my three Spartans in the field and think "Wow, I really wish I could choose to play that character in first person." Imagine playing Halo wars and having a team of six spartans on the field which are all human players and when you select them and give them a command, it appears as a waypoint or an objective marker on their screen, giving them the distance to their objective and the details of the objective JUST LIKE IN A CAMPAIGN MISSION! If done properly, this game mode would seem like an entire unique campaign each match. I think the best way to do this would be to treat the firebase as a vehicle that the commander can operate from within or exit and fight as a spartan in first-person view; this allows even the person commanding armies to still have their personalized character in the match. If you want to get carried away allow players to be the captains of ships and make the map the size of whole galaxy with landmarks such as planets Earth, Harvest, Reach as well as High charity and all of the locations visited in all of the Halo Games prior.

  17. Hi everyone. I'm posting this thread as a way for all of us to ask questions or help each other out on Halo Wars if necessary. I've done a few Campaign missions Co-op Legendary, I never got to continue with them. Anyone up for it? I'd also be happy to get all Skulls and Blackboxes. Possibly pick up any easy achievements I've missed out on along the way. If anyone's up for it that'd be great.   18. So over the years the Sangheili have been constantly redesigned. Which is good. Halo 1 have them a sense of scary + cool, especially during jump scares. Halo 2, Same but more detailed, pretty scary either way. Halo 3. I have a problem with them because they look too slouched, as if shorter. They are cool however, that one thing really bothers me. Halo Wars. Very good. Scary and cool. They look like an early version of Reach elites crossed with 3, due to their skinny waist and scary teeth and face. The Halo 3 features would be the armor design. Very cool. Halo: Reach. Very, very COOL. Like HCE, a sense of scary and cool. The way the teeth and vibe are done, the angular faces, these are my FAVORITE!! Also the feet look bird-like. My least favorite design, the worst to me. Although this one is cool, I just think they look too slouched. Maybe it's the armor. Also. I don't like how no armor is on the forearms, just feels naked.....I think sticking to Reach or H3 style would have been good. So yeah, Reach rocks. Give out your favorites.

In halo wars I use odsts to combat lots of tactics, mainly the scarab tactic, I have all infantry upgraded, spawn three Spartans and move them to the enemy bases once they are there I drop the men in and spam it, each time one dies, 5 replace it, it should take about 5 minutes for normal bases 10-20 if defended with units, the only downside is money and tech, without either it is useless and the only counter is snipers or flame units or if I am rushed early, people consider this man spam, it is but it's devastating and I've never been countered by anyone except rush which I don't count as a counter more of a f**k you and your tactics, in 7-8 minutes I could have ODSTs or if I upgraded spartans 10 minutes, feel free to comment of some bad sides or good, no hate comments and please comment your own infantry tactics, remember its a base killer and scarab killer tactic, if you use it right

Okay so i just checked out the halo spartan assault download free trial and for it being a arcade style i'm not to impressed with it and for a demo it was way to short and for it to take up 2.2 gigabytes for less then 3 minutes of play time and just thinking if i want to play a arcade style game i will go to a arcade place in a mall.....i have been a halo fan from 2001-2011 i'm sad that the opportunity wasn't taken to make a add on to halo wars and expand the halo line that way and after i noticed that 343 industries left out peaces of cutscenes for the remake of halo 1 for the xbox360 if some one want's to do a remake of a game awsome but keep it true of what exaly happend and just not cut things out that where a part of the original if by chance their is a halo 2 remake don't slater it like the halo 1 ce keep it true to the point of i remember this and that and how the game is mapped out yeah go for better grafics just don't leave any thing out of it but after the mess up and what fell short of the halo 1 remake i just kind of drifted away from the halo scene i really wish things would get turned around for halo i'm not even looking for word to seeing what the next halo will be for the xbox one i wasn't to thrilled about the xbox one and i never got one because no game's have caught my eye for it i have been a loyal microsoft customer since 2001 and going through 7 xbox360s because of hardware issues but also seeing huge bugs in the xbox one of not being able to see how much space is used up on a hard drive hearing that their is no party chat and the list goes on and seeing that bungie not a part of halo makes me really sad and i find it frustrating that my halo 2 multiplayer bonus maps cant be played off line on my xbox360 i missed looking at the dlc maps so i wanted to go down a trip of memory lane but i found out that even with me buying the hard copy of the DLC from way back when is no longer of use besides seeing some really awesome game footage to find out what happens to the second pelican on the second mission in halo 2 makes me upset that i can't use content from a disc made for dlc that i pad for but yet many years later finding out that i can't even use it for off line fun any more that's just not right in so many ways i wont hold my breath to see any changes but halo is turning in to cod and i went and started playing cod if i want a cod experience i know where to go for it if i want a halo experience i know where to find it with halo 1,2,3, odst, halo wars, halo reach notice how i didn't say any thing for 343 industries remake of halo 1 yet their halo 4 i didn't even go out of my to get it i'm glad i was able to test out the waters for the new halo spartin assault i'm glad i didn't wast 14.99 on it but i'm not happy where the new studio is going with it i wish bungie could have stuck around i'm a old school halo fan and i think 343 industries is trying to hard and not thinking right compete with Call of Duty the halo reach match making has been messed up since 343 industries took over the service over all i'm not to impressed with what it is soon becoming why did Microsoft have to shut down the halo 2 servers why not make a patch to where only xbox360s can play a copy of halo 2 oh that's right you want to sell more copies of newer halo games i can understand halo 3, odst, halo wars, halo reach but my thought's for what the next one is for the line up it's not so good yet i am just a little person in a big world where every one will just put up with it and keep the ball rolling i don't know if my word matters at all but i am at least going to say my thought's on the future of what halo is becoming...what about the story yes you gave one to halo spartan assault i give you credit for that but to make it a arcade play style.....just make's no sense to me when it could have been a rts command style like halo wars who ever came up with the idea of arcade style bad move on your part for who ever thought of it yet alone why not pick the book up from halo wars and continue that story oh some one was hot headed about about a arcade style game play.....

  23. As you may or may not have heard, I announced a minigame playdate a little while back called Maestro's Merry Minigames, or MMM for short. The Dumb Marine announced a playdate also, a couple weeks before I announced MMM. And just recently, Edward Kenway/Omega stated that he too had a playdate in the works. Since fate has decided that MMM, the Dumb Marine's Holiday Playdate, and Edward's playdate would fall upon the same day, Bnus suggested that we merge the first two playdates. After a long conference filled with much deliberating, negotiating, discussions, and the signing of treaties, we have come up with... WE MERGED 'EM INTO MMEMMM! So now we have one massive playdate in store for everyone! The Dumb Marine will be kicking off the playdate with every gametype under the sun in Halo 4, I'll keep the fun rolling with minigames from throughout cyberspace, and Edward will wrap things up with some Halo Reach, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Halo Wars! Here are the important details: TIME AND DATE: 9am-9pm PST, December 21st GAMES: Halo 4 for the Dumb Marine's Kickoff and Maestro's Minigames, Reach + GTAV + Halo Wars for Edward's Wrap Party DLC: Forge Island (it's a freebie if you haven't got it already!) So, Halo 5 is slated to be released holiday 2014 (around Thanksgiving/Christmas of next year) and I thought a great way to get excited about the release of Halo 5 was to look at the history of Halo, from the beginning to now (chronologically). So let's begin. Halo: Combat Evolved This is the game that started it all. Inspired by Marathon, ONI, and a few other games, when it was first thought of by Bungie Studios and Take Two Interactive, it was originally intended to be a game for the Mac. It was even announced as such in 1999 by Steve Jobs. Little did Bungie, Apple, or Take Two know at the time Microsoft was actually scheming how to turn the "two horse" (Sony and Nintendo) console race into a three way free-for-all. Halo, at the time code-named "Monkey Nuts" (which was later changed to "Blam!" because Jason Jones couldn't say Monkey Nuts in front of his mother) was one of the games that Microsoft wanted for "The X-Box Project", which was a console designed to compete with the Nintendo Gamecube and the Playstation 2. To make sure the console was a success Microsoft wanted to get as many top-notch games as possible for the launch of their console. In June of 2000, Bungie accepted Microsoft's offer to buy both them and the game. Take Two Interactive didn't want to work for Microsoft and thus left project "Blam!" and took the rights to Myth and Oni with them. The stage was set for Halo to finally come to life. There was some discussion as to whether Halo should be third person or first person, but with better technology in play Bungie decided that the game played more "fluid" in first person. Not to mention the added bonus of being inside Master Chief's head made players more sympathetic to the character. The two weapon system was integrated, and the Cortana letters had been received with joy from fans. Halo: The Fall of Reach by Eric Nyland released October 30, 2001, paving the way for Halo Canon and going more in depth on the story of the "Halo Universe". Both the X-Box and Halo: Combat Evolved hit the shelves November 15, 2001. Halo CE was an instant hit. Raving reviews and gold stars all around, it sold a million copies in five months and is credited for 50% of all X-Box sales. Five months after the game was released (right on the millionth game mark), Microsoft authorized a second Halo. The success of Halo: Combat Evolved also led Bungie to further pursue "viral marketing" as well as more books similar to the Fall of Reach. Halo 2 Halo 2 was, once again, authorized by Microsoft just as Halo CE hit 1 million copies sold. Halo 2 was going to be the game to play on X-Box Live, which was the "online multiplayer" element that we today take for granted. With this in mind, Bungie realized that a good deal of the weapons in the game were unbalanced for online multiplayer. So, Bungie started off trying to balance the weapons while adding on to the story that they had started with Halo CE. With Halo 2, they decided to go with distancing the player from the characters by switching the player from Master Chief to a newly introduced character that we all know as "The Arbiter". They also introduced a bunch of new features (new to Halo, that is) like boarding and duel-wielding. Bungie created a 9 minute demo that debuted at E3 2003 (or E3'03, if you'll recall). This demo showed off a good chunk of the new features and enemies (drones and brutes) and got fans excited for the new game to come. However, Bungie was about to hit a very big snag. The engine that Bungie had built the E3 demo on (and so far the game) was not compatible with the X-Box hardware. Bungie had to basically start over with only a year until the deadline that Microsoft had set for them. Bungie pushed for as many extensions as possible, and cranked up the viral marketing with ilovebees.com, but Microsoft was pretty stern. So, Bungie had to release Halo 2 not quite as they had imagined it November 2004 with a cliffhanger ending due to the crunch. That being said, however, the game sold. A lot. And was praised, despite it's flaws (which some say made it even more fun) as one of the most competitive and best online experiences that you could get out of a console game. It also left canon lovers wanting more, which brings us to the next part of Halo history. Halo 3 In 2006, Microsoft and Bungie announced Halo 3. Bungie had started on Halo 3 following the process that they had set with Halo 2, and they did not take much of a break between games. Bungie had a bad taste in their mouth with the way that they had to end Halo 2, so they took everything that they weren't able to put into Halo 2 and put it into Halo 3. They also took Halo 2's multiplayer and did everything they could to improve it, including adding in a much desired Forge Mode as well as more weapons and the addition of equipment. Halo 3 went over more smoothly than Halo 2 and broke all of the records that Halo 2 had previously set. It was released September 25, 2007, two years after the release of the X-Box 360. Shortly after the release of Halo 3, a few Bungie employees set out to see about getting a Halo movie made, and then not long after that (which apparently didn't go over so well since we don't have a Halo movie [except for FUD which doesn't really count imo]) Bungie announced their decision to leave Microsoft. The decision by Bungie to leave Microsoft caused a bit of a spat between Bungie and Microsoft officials, but after everything Bungie agreed to do two more Halo titles before going off on their own. Halo Wars Halo Wars was released February 26, 2009 (March 3 for North America) and was the first Halo game made entirely out of Bungie's control. Microsoft owned Ensemble Studios, who specialized in RTS games, and picked them to create the Halo title for 2009. After Ensemble created Halo Wars, it came up with an idea for a Halo MMO, code-named project Titan. However, Microsoft said no, and Ensemble was shut down. One month before the release of their game. On a brighter note, Halo Wars received good reviews and to date is one of the top selling RTS games for consoles. Halo 3: ODST Halo 3: ODST was the first of the two Halo titles that Bungie Studios promised to make before leaving Microsoft. Originally title Halo 3: Recon, it was released September 22, 2009. It took a grand total of 14 months to make, from start to finish. Bungie spared no expense in the casting for the game, however critics maintain that the game felt more like an expansion than a full Halo game. Halo 3: ODST introduced firefight mode, which was a fan-favorite all around. It also came with all of the DLC multiplayer maps for Halo 3 AND Halo Reach beta access (for newer copies). This put a lot of cries to rest about Halo 3: ODST costing $60. Halo Reach Halo Reach. The last Halo game created by Bungie, and the end of an era. This time around, it was all about the game for Bungie. They seemed to ignore the canon that they had created throughout the years (and I know this is a controversial thing but it is documented that they did override previously set canon, therefor breaching it) to create a very fun and gripping experience. Halo Reach released September 14, 2010 and broke tons of sales records. It came with a ton of critical acclaim and had some fans in an uproar (over the little things mainly, everyone must complain about something). It also set the stage for 343 Industries to take over the reigns, which happened on March 31, 2012. But I get ahead of myself. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary November 15, 2011 343 Industries released the tenth anniversary edition of Halo: Combat Evolved. This was their first big trail in taking on the Halo series, and by all accounts they passed it. 343 Industries took Halo CE and gave it a HD face-lift and added as much as they could into it (such as skulls, new control schemes, and achievements) without changing the game entirely. It gave the fans who started from the very beginning (and those who joined in a little later on) some much appreciated nostalgia. The game included a disc that gave players access to the Halo Reach "Anniversary" Map Pack, which included some good ol' fashioned maps and gametypes to complete the nostalgia. Less than a year later, 343 Industries took the reigns of Halo and brought us to where we are now. Halo 4 Halo 4 was a game that a lot of fans doubted would ever come after the release of Halo 3. There was a lot of speculation about it when Bungie announced that they would be letting go of Halo, including that Master Chief would never come back from being stranded in space. Then, June 6, 2011 Halo 4 was announced. As it turns out, development began in 2009 and was kept pretty hush hush. Which in this day and age is hard to do. Halo 4 took around three years to complete. When it was announced there was WILD speculation on what the game would be about. There were rumors running rampant about what the enemies would be, hoaxes on leaked documents, actual leaked documents, and even a stolen copy of the game after it was completed resulting in a bunch of bans from X-Box Live. This was definitely one of the most anticipated Halo titles ever released. When it was released, it was met with critical acclaim and grossed $220 million dollars on it's first day and had over 1 million active players in the first 24 hours of it's release. Halo 4 introduced more weapons, more multiplayer modes, and the new storyline for Master Chief. So there we are. The Halo history. The thing about history, though, is that there's always more of it. There is going to be a Halo 5 and 6, and possibly more after that. We will have to see what is to come.
