  1. I haven't read the book in awhile but I do know that after getting his upgraded armor, he and a large number (possibly all) of the other S-II's make an attempt to break a main encampment of Covenant forces on the ground. They are in a group of pelicans when they are hit with aa fire and are forced to jump ship, none of them die but a few suffer broken bones and other minor injuries (mainly due to the cushioning gel gloves of their suits rupturing on impact with the forest canopy and ground). After this they engage the enemy force, I'm not sure how this engagement ends though. I don't remember them ever meeting up with S-III's, although I may be wrong about that. So no, Master Chief and other S-II's actually did fight on Reach at least once before it was overrun and abandoned.
  2. I know what you're saying Adam, unless he was unconscious when he was taken out of the cryotube it definitely kills the mood. It was meant to be Bungie's farewell to the series and characters, a seemingly open ending but nevertheless one that we all know concludes with the death of the Chief and Cortana fading away into rampancy. This turns the story from the course we'd want it to be. Instead of an uplifting tale of perseverance at all odds, it turns out it is an austere and very real tale in which the hero makes every sacrifice and still reaps no reward. That's existence and that's how it ends. There is no parting word that can console the dead or left loved ones, nothing about truth/existence is consoling. The point is that the miracle is in what you do with the time you are given before you slip into black, never to awaken. That's why the ending is so artistic, Cortana knows this will be the end of them both but is surprised when she bittersweetly realizes he knows this as well. This news doesn't sound like 343 has done a good job in converting this into an intermission... maybe because it is the end
  3. shrimp fried rice SO GOOD WITH TOMATO SOUP
  4. I'm going to make this quick because like everyone else is saying, we don't want to start an argument and we all will try to be respectful of other's opinions, but... Halo CE had health, so that's the root of that. Halo 2 and 3 incorporated the concept of regenerative health. With AA's Reach was trying to make equipment more equalized: i.e. "jealous of the other teams jetpack? hey grab a jetpack, frand." And while this did make gameplay more hectic there's no doubt in my mind that it made it more fun, and more team oriented: i.e. I know what equipment my teammates have, I know how to use it, therefore I can play to match their likely strategies, and I know they won't throw down the only bubble shield too early and ruin the plan. I agree with you guys, it does get aggravating when the playing field is not equal, and yes! that is the point of Halo and what makes it so beautiful. However a long time ago there were only two pickups and they balanced each other quite nicely; when you add seven/five to those the game is going to change a little, the same thing goes for vehicles. Finally before I pose a question maybe you haven't thought of, I will say one last thing (aside from saying the above post is meant to be respectful); the jetpack isn't confirmed, that is a t-pack from the books which are used in low g environments for controlled bursts of movement. So don't worry just yet. and here it is Why haven't I seen anyone freak out about armor pieces actually affecting gameplay?
  5. Welcome! You should probably take a look at this and that if you haven't already and like ZB and Drizzy said, everyone here is helpful and pretty nice so just ask if you need something and have a good time. Nice username by the way.
  6. The terminal for the Library is NOT located in the elevator room. This has tricked me and some of the players I've talked to about it, and missing this can make the Library exponentially aggravating on higher difficulties. It is located in the room that has a huge walkway extending halfway around a large vertical hollow. You will see this familiar space over and over again but the terminal is located on the third floor. You will know which floor you are on because the Chapter Title while riding the elevator will be "But I Don't Want To Ride The Elevator" after which you'll arrive on the third floor. Don't get on the elevator again until you've found the terminal.
  7. If armor turns out to actually affect gameplay like they said it would, then I'd like pieces unlocked by the equivalent of commendations in Halo 4. i know it sounds like COD but I think if rank unlocked armor that provided an advantage there wouldn't be as much of an incentive to perfect specific skills or do all of the wild things in Halo. It would just be like the more winning the more armor the less it is about Halo being insane. Then again 343 did say gameplay would be paced a lot faster so hmmm, maybe it will be based on rank. You should put up polls for what we think will be the case and what we want to be the case
  8. I think you might have read too fast 2 November On the bright side it will arrive five days earlier
  9. I feel like I'm arriving late but today- thinking the release date was still unconfirmed- I got a printout from my gamestop and Halo 4 was listed for 11/02/12. The employee told me that they had actually received the information in December but Microsoft had wanted it hush hush. I'm almost positive it's coming out November 2nd because of this, the date is same for Best Buy, and this; 1+1+0+2+1+2=7
  10. In advance I want to say I'm sorry that I don't have good news; I may be wrong but I'm almost positive that you can't assimilate one type of scoring with another (i.e. flag caps & kills, checkpoints & oddball time). I can check to see if you can make scoring checkpoints and kills interchangeable but I don't think it works. Maybe try to find a way around this, I know that it's kind of the point of your gametype/map but you might have to find an alternative method to scoring it. Sorry, this sounds like a great idea but I don't know if it will work right.
  11. I liked your map but there should be more of a variety of weapons. It's up to you but that's my opinion, I hope it helps.
  12. Perhaps not anymore, it depends on what galaxy we play in this time.
  13. I love killing the covenant, they're so confused and dastardly but whose forerunner army is it?
  14. I know I speak for all of us when I say that we feel the same way, we are very happy to have you and you are such a delight to have here with us.
  15. I meant just put all of your quotes and responses into one post, that's all, be careful out there.
  16. I've always had a problem with my sentences being to long, for some reason I think everyone will understand exactly how I'm saying it regardless of the millions of commas. Making multiple lines instead of block paragraphs also sounds interesting. I do have a question though, I really like use the indent to indent the whole of the paragraph sometimes. I feel like it can make things more noticeable if it's a medium length description of something amongst more medium length descriptions. Usually when I do this however, I number paragraphs or add some kind of outline format to the structure so it isn't just hanging there. Is that useful or confusing?
  17. I actually thought about this when I agreed with Mystic and ironically I'd really like them to do more of a return to the Halo 3 version. I'm wearing security right now but I like the old one more. So far though the S-IV armor looks structurally more like Halo 3 than Reach which I think is a good direction.
  18. Welcome to the site but first a few things. If you're an original Halo fan no Halo is a failure. Dedicated servers are tricky with the Blam! based engine. The BR is coming back as hitscan with recoil this time. The ranking system means nothing. Abilities have been confirmed as an evolution of the Reach system that was based on Halo 3 equipment. Again, Reach is Halo. Fresh non-campaign multiplayer maps have been confirmed. I agree with you on campaign. It's not about the money. State your opinion as such and stow the belly aching, please read around and look for news, it is all over this site especially. If you want links I can provide them. Welcome to the forums.
  19. I'd like a more functional revamped hayabusa model to return so that it doesn't look like so aesthetically minded, except for the shoulders, those are the most functional shoulder pads in a Halo title to date. On whether or not Halo 3 armor will return, I agree with Mystic, I'd like to see them do an updated version if they include any. I don't think MC will be assimilated into the SPARTAN IV program; regardless of what we think about him being near some mysterious artifact possibly 43 years into the future without at least the general population knowing his whereabouts or status, I don't think he would be inducted into the S-IV's unless as a formality. This is all based on whether or not you choose to take this as canon
  20. I hate to reply based on this but those three things are what make infection what it is; zombie health (they're supposed to be fairly resilient), headshots (self explanatory), human sprint (I'm not on a stroll). I'm not trying to doubleteam or be rude, Infection needs to play fast. Getting a sword kill as a zombie is supposed to be like scoring in a soccer or hockey game, getting a kill as a human should be like basketball. Remember, shooting the endless hoard of zombies wouldn't be fun if they were killing large fractions of your teammates in no time. I think sword block needs to be reestablished somewhere in the Infection playlist. As for this whole thing about how easy it is to overcome a sword. I don't ever use the sword so I'm not even good with it and yet I score more points pound for pound with it than the SPNKR and my video gaming youth was 99% focused on Halo CE and largely spent developing strategy in rocket fights. The sword is not underpowered, it is not easy to kill a sword spreer who perfects the use of the weapon, there is no way you can make the argument that sword players deserve any quarter whatsoever because they don't plain and simply. The SPNKR holds a two round cartridge with limited resupply, the sword offers no user danger in an up close engagement, citing stats doesn't matter much because they're completely different and when the gameplay supports that the sword is superior to almost every power weapon in almost any situation. Sorry, you know I love you guys, but in my opinion if you think barbers deserve respite, you've gone soft.
  21. To say the least it was funny getting used to RB after playing so long using B. Like most of you have said, it's also easier for me to use because you retain full control of the sticks, it's not like I'm going to shoot at the same time anyway. There is one other thing they need to change with the controller setup but I don't want to go OT and besides I'm not sure how much it is within the bounds of their control.
  22. This is the most excited I've been to see the BR in a long time, think 2004. I missed out on all the March 4th celebration because of some stuff but this is just so sweet to the triangular fossae. It looks dangerous, I love it's new scope and the more austere design, and the yellow stripes kind of hint that this is the reconciliation between the BR and it's friend from Reach. I had heard the footage but after reading this I can't wait to bring this home and blast the volume! Nerf gun? belt sander? mortar explosion? And then I get to shoot it again?! Finally, recoil in the BR, how did they know it's exactly what I wanted? I'm actually looking forward to hitscan because it will help with lag (now someone come in here and tell me that it wouldn't affect it anyway) and anything to help a weapon, that fulfill the function the BR will, with that is a plus, although I still share some of your sentiments, Skittlze.
  23. I think they could have made evade have a slightly shorter range. I haven't tested side by sides with an elite yet but it would also make sense for Spartans to go less far. My reason for why the dispute over AI making use of it is valid is that they can't use it to the same effectiveness as a Spartan can whether it be distance or strategy, in matchmaking this leads to a very limited range of flexibility if you are trying to play seriously and strategically overcome this. I don't exactly mind it because it isn't a fundamentally flawed idea (ahem armor lock) but shortening the range or lengthening cooldown or allowing for only one evade to be used between cooldown would be useful in balancing it. This is exactly why AA's need more customizable features in the game options menu, just those would be enough. Fergemator, edit your original posts or combine your quotes and remarks into one next time. This can get you in trouble with moderators.
  24. Whatever the evolution turns out to be I hope they take into account the spectrum of AA uses in custom games. As for it becoming a system of stackable abilities in loadouts based on rank; this I think would be a mistake. First of all because I have heard a lot of complaints about how Reach's gameplay was too hectic because of all the different AA's that could be going on at any point, even though I did enjoy how it was in Reach, making them stackable in loadouts wouldn't really give players any good idea as to what an opponent was capable of at all. In COD players can't become invulnerable, fly off, or lose visibility altogether; the basic values like accuracy, damage, and health are changed leaving the fundamental strategy the same. Stackable AA's could be complimentary if it wasn't pre-stacked in a loadout, only two could be stacked or only one and a piece of throwaway equipment could be. Secondly, making this a part of rank seems so alien to Halo in all regards to me. I can understand rank based armor modifications affecting health, speed/jumping, and maybe another stat but keep in mind that armor having a significant role would be a new element to gameplay, adding another another variable like armor abilities that possibly can be stacked to not only the loadout but a ranked based loadout seems like we're getting ahead of ourselves. If there are AA's in loadouts (which I think I remember them being cryptic about) I would rather have successive stacking be based on pickups in game. HOWEVER, I see nothing wrong with loadouts allowing for stacking of any number of AA's in custom games and forge, in fact I would see something wrong with not allowing that. I also would like for the Dpad to get some action too as this sounds like the best way to implement a system like this.
