Shortly after the big, yellow school bus groaned to a halt and deposited Planet Mom's brood at the curb, the skies grew angry and the winds began to whip, swirling all manner of leaves and debris about the place. The heavens rumbled in the distance and massive clouds moved swiftly as she and her children hurried up the grassy knoll to the safety and comfort of their home. Together they sat, perched at the northernmost bank of windows, and watched with amazement as a monstrous wall of gray swallowed the September sun as if it were a mere lemon drop. A raging storm was indeed very nearly upon them.

A sudden shroud of darkness then descended upon the land whilst towering pines swayed in the yard and lawn chairs skittered like spiders across the wooden deck, tumbling into the bushes and startling the children and their curly-haired dog. Shortly thereafter, lightning lit the skies and thunder shook the house unmercifully, causing the dog to cower in a corner -- its springy, white tail hidden between its legs. Lights flickered ON and OFF and ON again while rain began to pelt the roof in fitful waves, thwarting all efforts to keep the smallish creatures in question focused on their homework. It was a school night, after all.

"Are the lights going to GO OFF and STAY OFF, Mom?" one of the pair asked, a hint of apprehension in her voice. "What'll we do then?"

Their mother, not being particularly gifted in the realm of meteorological topics, shrugged her shoulders and tried desperately to think of something that might divert her daughters' attention away from the impending doom that seemed all but certain to strike.

"Get back to your schoolwork," she instructed, all the while pretending to ignore the deafening cracks of thunder and the sirens that wailed in the distance. "It's just a thunderstorm."

"But how will we see to do our homework if the lights STAY OFF?" the wisp of a child probed further.

"Yeah," her infinitely inquisitive counterpart added. "And how NFL women Jerseys will we watch TV tonight?"

"My homework will catch on fire, Mom!" So out the candles went directly, along with any bit of cinnamon-y goodness that might have emanated from said waxen devices.

Dozens of minutes elapsed and darkness fell. Soon, the woman's mate returned from work and joined the anxious bunch, eager to instill calm and assurance where fear had begun to creep. Savory snacks and a multitude of shadow puppets were instantly produced to the delight of many. Needless to say, the man's offspring were mightily impressed with his skills and mesmerized by the uncommon and authentic nature of the railroad lanterns he managed to unearth from their pitifully disordered garage. His wife was equally impressed with the aforementioned feats and in return, promised never to divulge the number of times he flicked light switches like a fool -- because she, too, stupidly flicked switches.

Eventually, the punishing storm passed and the winds subsided, although the power outage continued. Nevertheless, an abundance of laughs were shared, as were stories of parental hardship involving crippling snow storms and great floods during which both heat and electricity were lost for days on end. "Wow! That must have been horrible, Dad!" (Translation: "How did you survive without the Disney Channel, Dad?!") More importantly, the family reconnected in a way that they hadn't in a very long time. Everyone took turns recounting the day's ordinary and not-so-ordinary events. The dog's ears were gently stroked and beloved books were read within the soft glow of the lanterns as the children nestled upon their mother's lap.

At the close of each chapter, just before she began reading the next, she paused ever-so-slightly -- and that was the moment during which a strange and wonderful thing befell them. All was perfectly still -- aside from the crickets outside calling to would-be mates, the dozing dog and the breathy whispers of children completely engrossed in the deliciousness of literature. As it should be. No ever-present drone of the air conditioner could be heard. No television blared in the background. Not even the familiar hum of the refrigerator or a solitary screen saver could be detected. The sacred wedge of silence was magical, entrancing and wholly alien to those huddled upon the floor and sofa.

Just then, the power returned -- an abrupt and unwelcome guest. The household whirred and lurched back to life, removing all but the vestiges of ambiance and intimacy. The Wholesale Jerseys children blinked as if snapping out of a trance. Their squinty-eyed mother closed the book and used it to shield herself from the brightness, now everywhere. Her mate sat up suddenly, forcing himself to process the transformation. The dog awoke with a start. Shortly thereafter, everyone went their separate ways -- back to the tired and the familiar. The spell had been broken, irreparably so. Or had it?

Except for the fingerprint scanner, nearly every other spec has received only minor tweaks.Some refinements are welcome; having the power button on the side rather than the top is a good idea, and the slightly concave edge (a feature first found on the smaller One Mini) gives a better grip than the original One. HTC's custom Sense interface for Android has a few new touches users will probably appreciate without actually noticing.Inside, the One Max has almost the same exact guts as its predecessor, including the unique but ultimately disappointing camera 鈥?which, strangely, has been downgraded and no longer features optical image stabilization. ORLANDO, Fla. 鈥?Within days of strolling out of prison without a hitch, two convicted killers

freed by bogus paperwork went to a jail about 300 miles away and registered as felons, records

After big down days to start last week, we saw the 50th 300-point up day ever for the Dow Jones Industrial Average last Thursday. In fact, it was the best day for the S P 500 Index (and SPY ETF) since the first day of the year. In the end, the SPY was able to finish green Wholesale NFL Jerseys on the week after dropping the previous two weeks, thereby extending its streak without a three-week drop to a very impressive 73 weeks.

The CBOE Volatility Index soared above 18 and peaked just beneath 22 before imploding later in the week.

The VIX recently moved to 鈥渂ackwardation鈥?in the VIX futures market 鈥?meaning October VIX futures were trading at a premium to November futures. This usually occurs when extreme fear is coming into the marketplace. Also, the VIX was trading at a 100% premium over the SPX鈥檚 20-day historical volatility (actual, or realized, volatility), which is another rare event. These two events combined is even more rare, and it is the options market鈥檚 way of signaling expectations for extreme volatility in the near future.

Going back to 2004, this is just the fourth time ever these two signals have been flashing in tandem. The two instances directly prior to this one were great times to be long, but the other came right at the 2007 peak. Still, each occurrence correctly predicted a good deal of volatility.

Worth noting is that the third time these indicators coincided was right in the midst of the fiscal-cliff drama of late 2012. Sound familiar? For more on the VIX, be sure to read Bernie Schaeffer鈥檚 thoughts on why a short-term peak in volatility might be near.

What are the charts telling us? The action in small- and mid-caps is very important. Both the Russell 2000 Index (and IWM ETF) and S P MidCap 400 Index (MDY ETF) found support from key areas before bouncing. Sure, there are concerns out there, but it is tough to be very bearish with these key groups holding up so well. The RUT once again found support from its upward sloping 80-day moving average, while the MID bounced from its 40-day moving average and the +20% year-to-date area of 1,225.

The Dow found support right at its 200-day moving average before bouncing. Now, the Dow has been the weakest index by far over the past few months, but it鈥檚 still worth pointing out that it last touched this trendline in late December, as the fiscal-cliff drama was in full gear. This, of course, was right before one of the best six-month starts to a year in a generation.

Earnings season is ramping up this week, as well. Similar to the past 11 quarters, we think the bar is again being set rather low, which could translate into positive reactions. Expectations are for earnings to grow about 4.5% in the third NFL Jerseys for men quarter versus last year. But what really stands out is the fact that earnings warnings have now increased every quarter since the second quarter of 2012, according to FactSet, and there have been a record number of warnings heading into this earnings season. Sure, the news could be horrible 鈥?but again, a good deal of the bad news is probably priced in already.

One more note on earnings: This is an encouraging chart that shows the SPX has broken out to new all-time highs, while earnings are also making new highs. Not much wrong with this picture. (Earnings data courtesy of Trinity Asset Management.)

That said, everything isn鈥檛 perfect. As we saw the last time we had debt-ceiling issues in August 2011, bad news can turn into about a 20% drop in three weeks. One big concern is margin debt, which is near all-time highs. This isn鈥檛 bearish by itself, but a big move lower in the SPX could lead to margin calls and a cascade of selling.

Next week is options expiration. Something to keep in mind is these weeks can be extra volatile, so if last week was any clue 鈥?brace yourselves. Still, October expiration week has been positive Wholesale Jerseys in seven of the last 10 years, and has been up the past five years.

Adam Wainwright is the presumptive Game 1 starter in the World Series, with Wacha likely to follow. The Cards hope he continues his success. Matheny expects it.

"He should expect that," Matheny said. "That's where he is right now. We have a group of veteran guys who have done some pretty incredible things, especially on the pitching side, to be able to sit there and say, 'You continue to do this. This isn't a fluke. We need to you do this in order for us to have a chance.'"
