  1. MAG! That's it! I would have to know the technical specs of it, but better hardware would only solve 1 of the 3 issues mentioned.
  2. I don't think it would work on consoles to be honest. I'll make a list: - It's an MMO: Part of what makes DayZ so fun is that you are playing in this massive word with about 100 people, consoles just simply can't support that. The PS3 had one game whose name escapes me which supported that many people, but every other aspect of the game suffered because of it. - It's a simulation: Simulations do not work on consoles! In DayZ you have to balance many things at once, food, water, blood, injuries, temperature, and fighting zombies. Since it's a multiplayer game you can't just stop the game every time you go into a menu so you have to try to make all of those quickly accessible to a controller, I don't believe that is possible. - It requires a huge amount of devotion time wise: DayZ is a game about wandering around this huge map looking for resources to help you survive the zombie apocalypse, this often takes several hours to gather up enough recourses so that you don't have to worry as much as your impending death. Consoles are not designed to be something which you will play for hours on end regularly, and that is exactly what is required in DayZ.
  3. Twin is more or less correct. This forum contains tens of thousands of members, each of which fit in to the community in their own way, but you can't expect everyone else to know that. The reason dedicated members get a large amount of attention is just because they are very active in the community and have logged lots of time on the site. The problem with your argument is that you have things backward. People don't get noticed because they are dedicated members, they get noticed because they are active on the site. Normally if you are very active you end becoming Dedicated which is what created the illusion in the first place. To stand out amongst all of the members you have to put some time in, then people will recognize you because they have seen you around, you'll end up being trusted or dedicated to just because you are active. TL;DR Logical fallacy, Activity = Getting noticed & Activity = Trusted/ Dedicated (Unless you just don't post)
  4. Ah, the nostalga. Oh and by the way, I'm back!
  5. Do I believe in Aliens? Well you have to narrow that down. Do I believe in life elsewhere in the universe? Yes. Do I believe in intelligent life else where in the universe? Yes. Do I believe that either of these things exist in our galaxy? Most definitely yes, and if you believe in Drake's equation there should be between 1,000 to 100,000 advanced civilizations in our galaxy. Do I believe that aliens have come to this planet to 'visit' us, most definitely not. As for what I think they do at Area 51, well test aircraft of coarse. Given that they just extended their runway recently and that we no longer need high altitude spy planes my guess would be that they are most likely testing space planes similar to the X-37 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_X-37).
  6. Halo 4 is weird for me, I went into the game not expecting too much from it given that the studio behind it was completely inexperienced and I was about 50/50 with what I had heard 343i had done with the game. So a few days after it had come out I went out and bought it for the campaign full well expecting the multiplayer to be horrible. Boy was I wrong. The Multiplayer in Halo 4 reminds me of the fun I had playing Halo 3, very competitive and always leaving you on the edge of your seat. My worries about the game being too dumbed down instantly disappeared the second I played Regicide for the first time. In my mind the multiplayer gets a 9/10 because there are some serious weapon balance issues that still need to be corrected. Now for Campaign and Spartan Ops. When I mentioned how I was completely wrong about how I felt, that goes both ways. To me it just isn't fun, at all, the fights are horribly repetitive, the game is entirely linear, and when I finally got to fight something new in the form of the Prometheans I discovered just how horrible they are to fight. Nothing about fighting three badly designed enemy types which have about 20 or 30 each on the battlefield at once is fun, especially when you know that the only thing that greets you at the end of that fight is the exact same fight another 4 times in a row. Also, one of the things that has always been good about the Halo series, attention to detail, appears to be entirely missing from what I have played of the game. A perfect example of this is when you have to launch the missile on the first level, the first thing you see is a Battle Rifle float by which tells you that there is no gravity in this section. You then proceed to see covenent doing low G jumps, which in itself doesn't make sense because the jumps imply low G and the floating BR was in no G but whatever, so what happens if you try to jump, well commonsense from Halo Reach and 3 would tell you that you do some cool slow jump but nope you jump as if there is normal gravity. For whatever reason I noticed this immediately and than proceeded to test out weapons, grenades, ect. and found out that everything is in normal gravity except for the covenent, bodies, and weapons not controlled by anyone. Well I wonder how they could have fixed this? You know what had a situation similar to this? The E3 Trailer! Cheif was flying around like a boss! So why not use that same thing here! Have him float off and fight the covies in no G! But nope, that was too creative for them so they made it exactly like every other part of the game. This brings me to the warthog segment in the second mission. They give you this great tool in order to do something other than point and shoot(the entire rest of the game), so they can't possibly mess this up right? Wrong, it seems like the only way to play this part of the game is to get out of the hog and shoot them yourself since the hog is useless! At first I tried to splatter covies with the hog, which is, oh what's the word, fun, but they would just bounce off with little to no damage done to them. At this point I was pretty sick of playing campaign so I just decided to hop in the turret and try to take them out with that, anything but shooting them in the same way as I had already been doing for about 40 minutes now. Everything was going great, the covenent were dying nicely, and the turret felt nice, I saw some enemies coming into the battle from the left from behind some rocks and was impressed at how they were coming to investigate the fight. Then more came from behind the rock, and more, and more, and more, you know they were only really coming out when I was close to killing all of the covies, how weird. Wait a minute... this seems like... like... like... a Clown Car! But no it couldn't be, there must be a drop pod, or a phantom, or something, but no, there was a cliff, that's all. TL;DR: Good game overall with one of the best multplayer systems I have ever played but is dragged down by a very boring campaign which is entirely linear and dull.
  7. Clearly the SAW is VERY OP. Reasons: 1. Seems to kill faster than just about any other weapon. 2. It has a large amount of ammo compared to the other power weapons. It can kill 6 - 10 people easily. 3. No learning curve. Unlike let's say the Railgun which requires a bit of practice to use effectively the SAW is just point and shoot. 4. No glaring downside. For the railgun it's charge time, for the Rocket Launcher it is slow projectiles and reloads. For the SAW it is... it is... well it doesn't have one, even the reload time is manageable in a firefight. Seriously, it needs to be nerfed.
  8. Except that the military does not stop terrorist attacks, the TSA kind of does but it's mostly good diplomatic relations. Actually our military does the exact opposite, most terrorist attacks (9/11 included) can be directly linked back to anger over our military presence in other people's countries. I don't quite understand what you are trying to say here. We never said that you couldn't get treatment, what we said was that often times emergency treatment can't be be payed for which then puts the cost on the shoulders of the hospital that provided it and the doctors at said hospital. Oh my God we are becoming Europe! Anything but Europe!
  9. Let me fact check that for you: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/aug/31/mitt-romney/mitt-romney-said-barack-obama-began-his-presidency/ http://voices.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2011/02/obamas_apology_tour.html http://www.factcheck.org/2012/08/romneys-sorry-apology-tour-dig/ So, now that we have established that that isn't true I can only assume you are talking about the apology that the people inside the American embassy in Cairo gave, you know, when they gave an apology to the large assembly of angry protesters who were outside of the embassy trying to break in and kill them. Unless of coarse I'm mistaken.
  10. I'll try to explain it to you. ObamaCare started out as a single payer system, kind of like what England has. However, when it was actually voted on the Republicans started whining that it was socialism and would ruin the free market system we have, so it changed. It just sort of turned into just a big regulation overhaul. What it does now is it keeps insurance companies from denying insurance to those with preexisting conditions and allows kids to stay on their parents insurance until they are 26 years old(the old age was 21 if I remember correctly) and more which you can find here: http://www.healthcar...v/law/features/ . However, the most controversial feature is that it adds a tax for those who don't have health insurance. The reason that is in place is because currently in this country if someone has lets say a heart attack then they will be taken to the hospital and be given whatever care you need. This in some cases can cost tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars which if you have insurance it will pay for. But if you don't have insurance the cost gets put on you, and since the average person doesn't have that kind of money laying around they can't pay it. So now what? The hospital has already treated you and has already spent the money so what do they do? Well the take money out of the doctor's pay checks and from the government in some cases. So the tax is kind of like having government insurance. Your hospital bills are still payed for like they are now, but this way the government actually gets money out of it so that they don't have millions of dollars a year going to pay for everyone's ATV accident. I hope that kind of explained it.
  11. The way I see it is this. Obama isn't perfect. He has made many many mistakes, the NDAA, continuation of the Patriot Act, the extreme use of the Reaper drone, etc.... However, he has also done many great things for America as a whole, the Affordable Care Act (It isn't government controlled health care...), the stimulus packages (a lot of money was spent on these but just think what would have happened to our economy if he had just let General Motors, Bank of America, Citigroup, and just about every other bank and auto maker go under), and cut down the military in size (as much as people would love to believe, we will in fact not become communists if we spend less than $1 billion on our military every day). But Obama isn't the only part of why I think he is the better choice, Romney also plays an equal roll. You don't have to look past the debates to see that he is not fit to lead a country. If he doesn't feel like the alpha dog in a given situation he just gets angry. If the debate moderators try to tell him to do anything he just proceeds to get angry at them, which would not be a good thing to do in an international diplomatic situation. Not to mention his most likely non-existent tax plan, since he seems to act like it is truly the greatest thing in the entire world what would be the harm in explaining it to us? The third and final important part in my decision comes from the current state of the republican party. All you have to do is to look at the number of filibusters put in place by the Senate during Obama's presidency ( http://www.senate.go...otureCounts.htm look at the 111th and 112th rows first coulomb). For those of you who live outside of America I'm going to explain to you why this is such a big deal. The President has no real power when it comes to most things, the only things the President has control over are the military and regulations (also vetos but Obama has only vetoed 2 bills so that's not a big deal), what has the control is Congress. Now Congress is kind of weird, it has two departments, the House and the Senate, bills start in the house and then move to the Senate. Now at the start of Obama's presidency Democrats had control over both the House and the Senate so now you are probably asking something like, well if they had control than why did nothing get done? Well the answer to that is simple, filibusters. You see we have this silly rule called a filibuster which says that if someone can read something for like 10 minutes or so voting on the bill in question will halt indefinitely and can only be resumed if over 60% of representatives vote for it, now conveniently the Democrats did not control over 60% of the senate. This resulted in a situation that has never happened before and never should've happened, since Republicans couldn't get anything past the Democratic controlled House and the Democrats had all of their economic reform bills stopped by the filibuster our government came to a near stand still for two years which given that we were in the middle of a recession at the time and desperately needed our government to step in this was disastrous and at least to me showed that the Republicans didn't actually care what happened to the country and solely wanted Obama to fail. tl;dr: Obama did an okay job in the situation he was given(first paragraph) especially given that his congress was faced with a record number of horribly abused filibusters courtesy of the Republican party (third paragraph) and is clearly a better choice than Romney who can't even get past a relatively non stressful debate without getting screamey at people (second paragraph).
  12. Really anything fast paced works, I'm a fan of electronic music in the style of SandStorm by Darude for anything that requires a high APM.
  13. Actually that's not too far off. One of the primary purposes of doing this jump was to see if it would be a viable option for an emergency escape out of a space ship. In about 10 years companies like SpaceX and Virgin Galactic could be using a system like this as a kind of emergency eject from their spacecraft.
  14. Ah, so according to the poll a video game is more important then the person who is the leader of and controls the military of the most powerful country in the world. That's just great... /sarcasm
  15. I nominate and vote for myself, if I can do that...
  16. Here's the complete project folder if anyone wants it: http://www.mediafire...6d0o3295po6fk8o It shouldn't matter if it knows who the player is, the only reason I send it any form of identification is so that it can figure out what color to change itself to. It's entire job is to see if the player that is sent to it is inside of it, and if so, to figure out if it is already owned by someone. EDIT: More detail, in the color part of the originally posted code, what it is doing is figuring out if it is player 1 (the integer that the method is receiving would be 0) or player 2 (the int would be either 1 or 2 depending on if it is controlled by a player or AI respectively).
  17. The double "=" is Java's way of differing between declaring something equal to something else or checking to see if it's equal to the other thing. player == 0 is asking if player is equal to 0, player = 0 would be setting the value of player to 0. In regards to what you originally said, all this class does is manage small sections of the screen so there would be no real reason to define which player is which beyond an integer value. Both players are clearly defined in the main driver class as two separate instances of the player class.
  18. Okay, so background, I'm making a Tron game in Java and ever since I added in the second bike the instant the game starts both bikes receive a signal that they have intersected the opposing players track and disappear. This is the getHit method from the square class (the things that change colors when people drive over them and stuff). It should be all the code you need to see: public boolean getHit(Rectangle d, int player){ if (!touch && rect.intersects(d) && owner != 3){ return true; } else if (rect.intersects(d)) { touch = true; if (player == 0){ c = Color.BLUE; owner = player; } else { c = Color.RED; owner = player; } return false; } else { touch = false; return false; } } I'll break down what it should do in the spawning situation if it was working properly. First it would go through the first if statement, since at this point touch is set to false that would trigger, then since the rectangles are intersecting that would trigger as well, but when it gets to the last one since the square is currently neutral (owner = 3) it wouldn't trigger. So now it goes to the else if which would declare the current player the owner, change the color, say that the square is being touched, and return false (false means that the bike is okay, true triggers a losing condition). All would be okay. The next time it would go through it would do the same thing since even though the squares are no longer neutral and the bike is in contact with them, touch is now true since it touched the squares the first time it went through. So, any ideas why the above doesn't happen and it returns true? I can post the Eclipse project file if necessary. EDIT: It ruined my perfect indention
  19. I would just choose to be super intelligent. Why? Well, while you are shooting fire from your eyes I will be helping to advance human kind and making money and doing other stuff.
  20. Ok, a proper Bungie expert is now in the house, all of your questions will be answered. First off, Crimson: Steam Pirates was released by a division of Bungie called Bungie Aerospace. Bungie Aerospace is a program set up by Bungie to help indie app devs get going, they supply the developers with assistance financially as well as in the developing process and in advertising, the game once completed then gets published under the Bungie Aerospace name. Now, on to what Bungie is working on. We don't have very much information since Bungie has gone dark, this means that they have basically stopped posting on their website and talking to the outside world in general. What we do know is that they are working on a Multi-Platform Sifi Adventure FPS codenamed "Tiger" and that it might have elements of MMO. According to a court document released by Activision during the big battle between them and EA they game will most likely launch with the name "Destiny" and is slated for a 2013/ 14 release. For more information and speculation on Destiny this website seems pretty on the ball about it: http://misriahsolutions.com/articles/waiting-for-destiny/ . Other then that there is a rumor that they could be working on a Marathon remake, but this has not been confirmed and doesn't seem like something Bungie would do.
  21. A great member! Also, thanks for the great thread guys, this is the 1,500th post!
  22. Living in South Carolina we get hit/ close missed by about one hurricane every year. For those of you who have never experienced one, they are really pretty fun to be in. All the wind and rain etc... they really aren't that dangerous unless you are either an idiot and strap yourself to a pole or something or if you are hit directly by a cat 3 or higher. Anyway, stay safe, make sure you protect yourself from floods, and don't strap yourself to any poles and you should be fine
