I have seen a few post about this but not many answers to why 343 felt it necessary to give you a god dam mini hand cannon as a secondary weapon ..

I can understand that they felt the need to have a pistol of sorts to go along with the Plasma and the Magnum but this weapon if far to overpowered ...

I hope to god that 343 sort this mess out, The only thing the Boltshot reminds me of is basically a Mauler and that was just basically a Smaller shotgun, There is just know need for this weapon to be a secondary if they want it in the game it should be in an Ordinance drop or on the map which I would prefer ..

I would like to hear peoples views and experiences they have had using and having the weapon used against them ..

I'm on the fence.

Arguments for the Boltshot:

Killtimes are very fast in H4. If you get close enough to someone, they've probably had a fair chance to kill you first. The Plasma Pistol is also very good in that it can drain shields in just 3-4 shots, and melee kill after 2 or 3. It also has many uses, outside of just spraying players. The Magnum is also useful if a Full Auto primary is selected. The Boltshot also offers a defense against power weapons, such as the sword. The semi auto mode is terrible against shields. You need the ENTIRE mag just to destroy shields. Although it CAN headshot.

Against the Boltshot:

No other starting weapon can one shot kill. The range on it is actually quite decent. It can kill instantly at a few feet away. Or, if it strips all shields, it can start going for the headshot. The charge time is fairly easy to manipulate, because you can release the trigger at any time after it begins charging and before it auto fires. The weapon can, in the hands of a good player, devastate sword users, and is very deadly when paired with P.V..

The thing is, in most small team games, the advantages of the Boltshot generally seem to outweigh the advantages or any other weapon. Having a one shot to fall back on helps tremendously.

Also, the Boltshot's initials is BS. I find this amusing.

I can understand the posters frustration. I have become very fond of the boltshot and use it far more than one should be using a secondary.

Its range is much greater than most think and the charge time is not set giving the user a lot of time to aim/get into position for use. Even if you do not the instant kill then it takes away shields which allows for an easy finish off.

It is overpowered and leads to camping with invisibility in a lot of games. If anything they should dumb down its range i.e. make it a 1 hit kill when you are right in their face and make it do exponentially less damage the further the enemy is away from the shot. Maybe they could reduce the allowable release time, all the above would make it a little harder and risky to use while maintaining its use.

To be honest I like it but i can see a persons frustration when they have a shotgun or sword and someones secondary is able to 1HK them before their power weapon can do the same..

SIMPLE SOLUTION: If the bolt shot is overpowered...USE IT!!

If I didn't like my secondary assault rifle so much then I sure would. People who complain about weapons being too OP are literally whining to thin air. The weapon is accessable to ANY PERSON therefore it is fair. Let me take you all back to the Halo 2 days. Everyone though super jumping was illegal/cheating/bug abuse, but when Bungie adressed it they specifically said that no person would be legitimately banned for super jumping because it is accessable for all players therefore eliminating the unfair advantage.

Same aspect, You can use the weapon so DO IT.

ok sure a well timed and aimed bolt shot blast can kill you at close range. but its rather easy to avoid if you are aware of your surroundings.

1. bolt shot is completly useless at long range

2. you can see everyone on your radar. and with the promethian vision ability you should not ***** about people hiding, if its that big of a concern to you then use promethian vision. dont come online to ***** about it.

3. if you dont have a CQC weapon like a sword or shotgun why are you getting into a enemy's face so they can bolt shot you?

4. seeing as all loadouts also include a weapon with a longer range than a boltshot why dont you use it when you see them coming as i already made it clear that if you dont suck at the game you should know where people are.

so as i see it the boltshot is mainly for dealing with noobs or people who charge in like idiots, as any intelligent person should be able to deal with it rather well as i do.

I don't understand the problem: it's a high risk//reward weapon. The person using it has to not only get in close and aim properly but get the timing exactly right, otherwise it's completely ineffective. Considering how easy it is to counter and what a situational weapon it is, if someone manages to use it perfectly they deserve to get a kill.

If you don't want to die to it, just stay out of melee range and keep firing. Its regular non-charged projectiles are pathetically weak as well as being slow-moving, so you shouldn't have any problems. The Boltshot is a specialist weapon: don't get into the situation it was designed for, and you're pretty much guaranteed to win.

Besides, it's actually the least useful of the spawning secondary weapons, in a way:

Magnum

Pros: Very long range, no need to lead shots, easy to get headshots, can be spammed to give it advantage at close range and paced to get one at long range.

Cons: Low ammunition capacity, inaccurate if spammed, does nothing against vehicles.

Plasma Pistol

Pros: Powerful individual bullets, can overcharge to take out shields, only spawning weapon that can EMP vehicles, extremely high ammunition capacity.

Cons: Can't headshot, slow projectile travel time

Boltshot

Pros: One-hit kill if used correctly, can headshot.

Cons: One-hit kill only works at fairly close ranges and must be perfectly timed, very low ammunition capacity, slow bullet travel time which can make headshots at anything but close range very difficult, non-charged shots are almost worthless

Basically, though you're getting a weapon which is very powerful in certain situations, you're sacrificing a lot of versatility for it.

Armor lock is awesome. Quit hatin'.

I'm surprised they didn't make the BS deal less damage proportionally the faster you fired it. Seems like it would make sense.

Armor Lock was a tactic used by newbies who weren't skilled enough to win any other way. I avoid playlists in Reach with armor lock. It's stupid to take a player to one hit only to have them armor lock and then a couple of their teammates clean up. I can understand armor lock on big team maps though, however, against vehicles, but on maps like countdown and sword base it was abused and exploited to where I simply just quit playing those game types.

Armor lock took literally NO SKILL to use. Jet pack was annoying as well but at least it takes a decent amount of skill to jetpack, aim, fire, and still do well.

Boltshot

Pros: One-hit kill if used correctly, can headshot.

Cons: One-hit kill only works at point-blank range and must be perfectly timed, very low ammunition capacity, slow bullet travel timen which can make headshots at anything but close range very difficult, non-charged shots are almost worthless

Basically, though you're getting a weapon which is very powerful in certain situations, you're sacrificing a lot of versatility for it.

If it actually worked at "point blank" range I'de be fine with it, but its range is further out than melee for a 1 hit kill.

The guaranteed kill distance is slightly less than the Energy Sword's lunge range - which is how I personally judge range to be 'point blank'. Do you think I should edit the previous post to make that a bit clearer?

I don't know. When I think of "point blank", I think of in your face or pretty much in Melee range.
