BBC iPlayer Hitting Xbox Live Next Week?

well the BBC iPlayer is now on xbox live, so time to catch up on Top Gear & Eastenders -
Oh dear, here we go again. EA has announced the latest batch of server shut-downs, effectively calling an end to multiplayer activity on a bunch of titles. Some of these required a payed Online Pass. Across all formats, servers for a total of 11 games are being shut on April 13th, seven of which are on Xbox 360. These include Burnout Revenge, FIFA 10, The Godfather II, Need for Speed ProStreet and The Saboteur. Rather worryingly, some of the listed games have only been available for a short time and quite a few require pre-owned purchasers to dish out extra for Online Passes. That means that despite generating revenue directly from these titles, specifically for their online components, the publisher has still chosen to halt support. Spare Parts has been available for around 15 months, while MMA has been in shops for approximately 18. EA has gone on record to state that they only pull server support for titles once the player base dwindles below a certain point. They haven't been specific about what that point is. April 13, 2012 - Online Services Shutdown (All Formats) •BOOM BLOX Bash Party for Wii •Burnout™ Revenge for Xbox 360 •EA Create for PC, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 •EA Sports Active 2.0 for PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 •EA Sports Active NFL Training Camp for Wii •FIFA 10 for PlayStation Portable and Wii •The Godfather™ II for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 •MMA for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 •Need for Speed™ ProStreet for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 •The Saboteur™ (loss of The Midnight Club access) for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 •Spare Parts for PlayStation 3 Xbox 360

You know those Recruit Pack thingys you can buy in Mass Effect 3's multiplayer, filled with weapon perks, items and other unlocks? Well this weekend you can unlock a special 'Victory Pack' in the first N7 Challenge Weekend for Mass Effect 3's co-op multiplayer mode. Entitled 'Operation Goliath', your goal is to flush out Reaper reinforcements, namely those nasty turian-krogan hybrid brutes, and inflict heavy casualties upon the shock troopers to score some points for the Alliance, gaining some more all-important Galactic Readiness in the process. From now until Monday, March 19th 5am PST, you can take part in the community event in Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, and beating the goal will unlock the Victory Pack, whereas extraction from a Reaper-held zone on Silver difficulty or higher will grant your squad the 'Commendation Pack'. In this pack, you'll be randomly awarded one of the N7 weapons from the N7 weapons pack included with the Mass Effect 3 N7 Collector's Edition. If the community manages to kill a million brutes during the event, every player will automatically earn the Victory Pack. So what are you waiting for?! Get brute-killing, now! Reward packs will be granted on Tuesday, March 20th and will expire after seven days

Even to this day, the debate still rages on about whether Halo: Reach’s armour abilities were game changers or merely an evolution of Halo 3’s equipment system. In terms of direction for Halo 4, 343 Industries’ Creative Director, Josh Holmes, says that with Halo 4 they’re looking to “dramatically reinvent the Halo multiplayer experience” and when it comes to armour abilities, they’re looking to evolve the system Reach introduced. “Our design goal was really to dramatically reinvent the Halo multiplayer experience,” said Holmes, “and do that in a couple of different ways, certainly in ways that impact the core experience – the moment to moment – but also the surrounding experiences in different modes of play that we offer to players.” “Sure, but what about the armour abilities?” I can hear you scream. Fear not, we screamed that too and Holmes noted that what they have in store for Halo 4 is an “evolution” of what you experienced in Halo: Reach. “For us, we really took a hard look at Reach and I think it’s important to note that the way we utilise abilities in this game is very different, much in the way that armour abilities were an evolution of the equipment system in Halo 3. The abilities that we have in our game are an evolution of what we experienced in Reach.” So, it’s an evolution of an evolution, right? Regardless, we’re intrigued. Any thoughts as to how they can do it? Answers on a postcard... or at least in the comments below. Yeah, actually, that’d be easier, do that.

Capcom has lined up some free DLC for the upcoming Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. The new mission sees a Spec Ops team entering Raccoon City to determine the source of the virus outbreak. Playing as a member of that team, you’ll have to take on opposing team members from the Umbrella Security Service, as well as zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons. What’s more, as the storyline takes place between the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3, and seeing as you’ll be playing as Spec Ops, you’ll get to re-visit the moment Jill Valentine encounters the Nemesis. Cool. The free DLC hits North America on April 11. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, meanwhile, hits the US on March 20 and Europe on March 23

Batman’s back and this time he’s brought along a whole heap of super-powered friends with him. Plus voice acting, an open-world Gotham City hub, suits, abilities, powers and customisation options. There’s tons of new stuff! We were shown a tasty little snippet of LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes recently and it’s looking ace. For a while now the LEGO games, for all their charm and charisma, have been treading water. The series that redefined kids games has ploughed a happy little furrow. The LEGO Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter titles were all decent enough, but it was time for a change. In creating a follow-up to the best-selling LEGO videogame of all time, Traveller’s Tales looks to have refreshed the formula. Batman 2 could be exactly what the series needs. Once more, you take control of Batman and Robin, but this time you can also join forces with Superman and a whole host of Justice League heroes to stop the Joker and Lex Luther from executing their dastardly plans. At the heart of it all is the open world area. Acting as a kind of mission hub, Gotham is nicely realised. Though it will contain weather and day/night cycles, we saw the city at dusk, beneath a brilliantly moody sky, with sheets of rain pelting down on the little plastic fellas below. It looks lovely. Once in the city, you can take control of Batman, using your grapple hook to scale the heights of Gotham or jump in the Batmobile to screech around the streets. And yes, you can take down pedestrians. It’s just like GTA in that regard, the only difference being that you leave a trail of tinkering LEGO studs, rather than blood and crumpled corpses. Take to the skies as a flying character like Superman or in the Batwing as Batman and it looks like even more fun. Playing as Superman our demoer soared up above Gotham’s roofs and swooped down under bridges in what seemed like the most glorious exercise in freedom. Completely free-roaming, it genuinely looks great. We’re promised the Batboat at a later date too. Lead by a LEGO brick trail through Gotham, you have to grapple and jump and battle your way to the next mission. Some areas will be blocked off, almost Zelda-style, to certain characters, meaning that you have to unlock more of your super-chums to progress. Thankfully, there’s a whole bunch to choose from, around 50 in total. We caught glimpses of The Flash, Wonder Woman and The Green Lantern, amongst others The missions themselves look largely familiar. It’s still your job to battle through environments bopping baddies on the nose and destroying objects to collect LEGO pieces, before using them to construct a new set of stairs or a lift to reach a new area. It’s lost none of its charm, with Batman and Robin mugging their way through fights amusingly. Mixing things up a little are suits and abilities. Batman’s Power Suit, for example, allows him to reach electrified areas that would otherwise be blocked off, while also powering up disused machinery. Robin’s Hazard Suit, meanwhile, can suck up water and other liquids then squirt them out through a canon to distinguish fires and such. Similarly, each superhero has special powers for you to take advantage of. Superman can freeze and push objects out of the way with his Super-Breath and heat and cut through objects with his Heat Vision. Again, you can use these abilities on the innocent civilians of Gotham if you wish. A nice but naught touch. While none of the various puzzles look particularly hard (it’s still a kids game after all), it’s the variety afforded by the open world, the abilities and the suits that impresses most. Besides, Traveller’s Tales greatest strength has always been pacing. With plenty to see and do in Batman 2, there’s no reason to suggest that skill has abandoned them. In addition to all this, Traveller’s Tales has also teased a character creation tool. We weren’t shown this feature, so we don’t know how it works or how it will fit into the game itself, but we’re promised the opportunity to create unique superheroes with customisable characters. It’s an intriguing prospect. Perhaps the most interesting new addition, however, is full voice acting. In previous LEGO games, characters made the odd noise, but never really spoke. In LEGO Batman 2, everyone will be chatting away. Traveller’s Tales would not reveal to me who the voice talent is, indeed they only showed one line of dialogue throughout, from the Joker. A full reveal is promised later, but if the line wasn’t delivered by Mark Hamill (who plays the Joker in the animated Batman series and Rocksteady’s Arkham titles), then it’s someone who does a convincing impression of him. Encouraging stuff. The only slight worry about this addition is that it could narrow the imaginative possibilities of the game. When characters are essentially mimes, it allows you to paint in the gaps, to allow your imagination to flesh out the character in a way that pleases you. Full voice acting gives that power to the author. But it’s a nit-picky concern. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes looks to be a great addition to the series, with a decent mix of familiarity and freshness. The saviour of kids games has lost none of its power to delight. It’s a welcome return. LEGO Batman: DC Super Heroes is slated to release this summer And heres the trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrGVbt-Qmb8 <courtesy of x360a>

There’s a new patch for Skyrim on the way which will fix a load more bugs and bring a handful of new features. There may be plenty of evidence floating around suggesting that development of the next Xbox is underway, but Microsoft are in no hurry to announce the console itself. Today they’ve moved to deny the rumours suggesting that the Xbox 360’s successor will be revealed at this year’s E3. “While we appreciate all the interest in our long-range plans for the future, we can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon,” a Microsoft rep has stated. “For us, 2012 is all about Xbox 360-and it's the best year ever for Xbox 360. The console is coming off its biggest year ever-a year in which Xbox outsold all other consoles worldwide. In fact, says the rep, “Xbox 360 didn't just outsell other consoles, it also outsold all other TV-connected devices like DVD players, as well as digital media receivers and home theatre systems. “And in our seventh year, we sold more consoles than in any other year-defying convention. “This year, we will build on that Xbox 360 momentum. With Halo 4, Forza Horizon, Fable: The Journey, and other great Kinect games on the way, our 2012 Xbox lineup is our strongest ever. Microsoft also restated their commitment to the entertainment apps delivered by the platfor, saying, “This year, we will deliver more TV, music, and movie experiences for Xbox 360 - as we'll make it even easier to find and control your all entertainment.” “And this year, Xbox games, music, and video are coming to Windows 8 so people can enjoy their Xbox entertainment wherever they go.” So there you go, a robust denial. Not just a “we don’t comment on rumour or speculation,” but a lengthy statement of intent. A u-turn now would be embarrassing, right?

my favourite saying of all time is out of Batman the Movie. Jack Nicholson (The Joker) says it to Michael Keaton (Batman) and it is... 'Never rub another mans rhubard' still makes me laugh now
