  1. I played mass effect trilogy and understood what was happening fine. My opinion is that if you can't be bothered to even look at a halopedia summary of a character, then you probably don't care enough about the story to have it really matter. Still, ToaFreak/ HaloCanon is doing a Halo 5 primer for those who haven't read the books. But, you can't expect to have a rich/ deep story in a game by solely relying on the game itself (Unless it's an RPG). You simply can't get in the amount of characterisation. The recent Halo media has been about introducing and characterising the new characters- Vale, tanaka, Buck (Post-ODST), Locke have all been brought into the fold with Hunters in the Dark, Escalation #17 and #18, New Blood and Nightfall, respectively. anyone who likes Halos story and still thinks John was the only spartan by this point in the franchise has been living under a rock. Besides, the only way you can't understand what is going on in Halo 4 (Example) is if you weren't paying attention. If you can't even pay attention to character dialogue, then that's your fault. Everything you needed to know for Halo 4 was supplied in the game, well enough (Even without terminals). Well, you could make an argument for the Covenant, but people who think that an entire species would be truly united obviously don't watch the news. So, TL;DR. If you're too lazy to pay attention in-game or to go read a summary on the internet, 343 should not cater the story to you. It's not fair on the people who would be getting repaet informstion, nor those who spend their money on the expanded universe content, only to get it ignored or negated in game (Like bungie did in their reign of the series.)
  2. Some Questions; A) Are spoilers allowed in the first week if they're fully marked and placed within [.spoiler][./spoiler] BBCode? I think this should at least apply in the lore forum, if nowhere else. Does this apply for other Halo media? IE Novels, Comic releases, and so forth. I want to know if I should be like this with Last Light, releasing on tuesday and Shadow of Intent in december. Similarly, would saying Jul got the Janus Key be classed in this system, if that were posted a week after the comic was released, rather than five months?
  3. Update 12/10/2015 -May as well just say LL is released. It comes out in 3 days. Besides, Halo Canon got a special copy from 343, lucky *******. My copy doesn't arrive til the 22nd. -Added halo 5 terminals -release date for art of halo 5 - added the Section 3 ARG That is all
  4. It's hardly 343's fault that the consumer base in that area of the world has nowhere near the scale of that in America or Europe, nor their fault that the Internet providers there (to my knowledge) don't provide terrific connection speeds. Ultimately, quitting games ruins the enjoy ability for everyone else playing. And this is measures to make sure people don't just quit when they're losing. It sucks that your Internet simply can't keep up with those from other continents entirely, but thus is the problem when the majority of the users are on other continents, and thus so are te majority of hosts. Honestly, it would be great if they simply had a server browser, allowing you to select a region (ala battlefield 4) but 343 seems to prefer the skill based matchmaking route. Still, Halo 5 has dedicated servers, so who knows. Maye it'll work out better. Besides, it's only an hour. There's lots of stuff to do. It's hardly a long time. Mess around in forge, campaign or spartan ops. Or go play something else.
  5. omg this is great I guess we're disregarding; -The novel broken circle, featuring an entirely sangheili and san shyuum cast -The return of N'tho and Usze in Hunters in the Dark -the return of Rtas in Shadow of Intent -the fact that 343 has developed a language for the sangheili to speak in cutscenes (In reach, it was gibberish. Everything since has been an actual language built with custom syntax and stuff) -The massive development of Sangheili culture in general, with a wide range of aesthetic influences ranging from Sanghelios to Hesduros -The actual inclusion of Sanghelios in a game But nope, obviously 343 is ignoring the damn species because 'muh multiplayer elites' is obviously the be-all and end-all for this supposed 'sangheili community' Also, just a heads up, what is Halo 2 Anniversary? Also, I highly doubt anyone who can mix up 'sense' and 'since' is old enough to have been in any kind of community back when Halo 2, Halo 3 clans were a thing.
  6. Update 04/09/2015: Added a new link for Halo Wars:Genesis
  7. You do know Microsoft owned the franchise since before it launched... Right? Besides, I'm pretty sure every definition of the word would say it's a game. Also, I don't want splitscreen. Not if it means sacrificing 60 fps. I haven't used it in years.
  8. Go on google images and type "Jeff the killer" I accept no responsibility for what may happen.
  9. This is pretty common, to be honest. There's a lot of things you can't take into account in play testing. Especially in a game with dozens of weapons all filling the same role. My absolute favourite multiplayer (BF4), took about a year to get to the point of glory it is now. You can do as much internal play testing as you want, but people will find a game-breaking glitch or exploit on day 1. Same for Halo Wars. I imagine that internal playtests generally involved people making combined-arms armies because that was what the game was balanced around. When people found the game-breaking strategies (Chopper+48 engineers ftw), they had to compensate for that after launch. Plus, Halo versus games like Battlefield or Destiny (Even Halo 4, to an extent) all have multiple weapons in the same role. In battlefield 4, There are about 12-15 weapons in every class of gun (Assault rifle, carbine, sidearm, sniper, shotgun, DMR, pdw, LMG). With so many weapons in the same role, how are you going to differentiate the M16A1 from the AK-12, or the AN-94 from the SCAR-H? Damage value, accuracy, muzzle climb, reload time and rate of fire. Only, you then discover that the AEK-971 is significantly more powerful than any other weapon on the playing field, so you have to go and tweak that weapon's values and see if it works. Then the BULLDOG is added in the next expansion, and now you have to rework the entire assault rifle balancing to compensate. It's a lot more complicated than it would seem. In Halo 4, we see this with the marksman weapons category; the battle rifle, DMR, carbine and light rifle all fill the same role, and so all are having to be balanced against each other. The Assault and Storm rifles + suppressor all have to perform equally against each other. And so forth. Weapon balancing isn't easy, especially when people are actively looking for ways to exploit something, my battlefield loadout consists of smoke grenades, a shotgun firing explosive rounds and with a thermal scope, then a 40x ballistic scope on my sidearm (It's a repeater carbine). I can dominate half the map with this gear, and camouflage myself so I cannot be hit accurately. This is after over a year of constant tweaking, and you can still find ways of breaking the system. Halo has a luxury in that it's weapons are district from each other, especially in halo 5, where the DMR truly acts as a marksman rifle, so can have a much more effective user at medium-long range, but will become outmatched in short range. Something the games have drastically needed for a long time.
  10. What defines a better game? Assuming you don't mean in regards to glitches as based off gameplay, there is no objectively better game. I enjoyed Halo 5 beta much more than any other Halo, am I wrong for that? Because that's what you're implying. That a certain type of gameplay is better than any other, which is an inherently flawed argument. What would count as a better game in your view? For example, you may say Halo 3, but I would say Battlefield 4. I'm not right, you're not right. Neither game is better, so please stop with the crap about 'you can buy a better game'. People can get what they bloody want to get. Anyway, MS and 343 can take all my money as long as they keep up the quality of novels they're been producing in the last couple of years. Halo's story has only been getting stronger since 343 took over, and that's ultimately what I am in for. I do love that we're starting to see a lot of the cut concepts brought back, now. For the story side of things, a lot of cut vehicles and even fauna have been brought back into the fold as a canon element of the universe. >presenting subjective statements as objective fact
  11. The game is practically finished, and the gameplay is built around 60fps. Splitscreen would not support splitscreen, ergo no splitscreen. The game goes gold (production and distribution) in about a month, and the game is more or less in it's final build now. The only things being changed this late in development are bugs and fixing bugs. Anyway, OP, enjoy having more money to spend elsewhere. A) you description when you get hit in Smart Scope Hip fire is still a perfectly valid path to take in a gunfight. Someone has pretty obviously not played the beta.
  12. So, like fancy invasion? But on a much larger scale. Yeah, I can see where you're going with this. Makes sense.
  13. Either I'm an idiot or the suggestions thread was removed. So whatever. Anyway, I've been thinking recently about how the amount of sub-forums there are currently just seems... Cluttered? I guess is the right term. There seems to be a lot of subs that are pretty redundant, too. So I decided to spend some time thinking about how they could be cleaned up a bit. First, I'll post the list of ones to keep, as it were, then provide my reasoning below. Announcements Board News Board General Discussion Offbeat Introductions and whatnot* Clan Recruitment Game Days and Invites Halo 5 board Halo: Master Chief Collection board Halo Wars board Other Halo Games board (Such as Spartan Series, Reach, etc) Halo on PC discussion (Online, CE, 2V) Forge and Custom Games Board Halo Lore Member Created Works Other Franchises** * - most forums I see have a thread for people to make an introductory post as opposed to a sub. But it's not like it matters ** - Could just be combined with general First seven - don't need to explain these, really. They're pretty self-explanatory Halo 5 - merging all four H5G subs would improve activity in an overarching Halo 5 thing. I'll go into more detail at the end. MCC - There's not really much point in having subs for Halo CE, 2, 3, ODST and 4 alongside chief collection when they could merge all discussion of those games into one board Halo Wars - Halo Wars 1 and 2 discussion. 'Nuff said Other Games - As the odd men out, Reach, Spartan Series and even maybe the board games can all count here PC- There's there PC Halo games, may as well count them. Of course, you could also count them under other Halo Games. Lore- To discuss Expanded Universe content and story Member Created works - Self explanatory Forge- with so many forge sub-boards, very few see activity. Right now, there's a few forge subs, as well as ones in the Reach, 4 and 5 boards. Not really necessary, IMO. Better to put all custom game discussion. Other Franchises - A place to discuss any other media franchise - game, film or novel. Really, just combining the last three boards which are all pretty useless, really. Another suggestion would be to have Halo Trilogy as a sub, and Reclaimer Saga as another, or Bungie Games, 343 Games and Halo Wars. Anyway, onto my activity point. A lot of boards here don't get updated (IE posted in) for days, even weeks or months at a time. I believe that this is, partially, due to being spread so thin. Merging similar boards into one would help alleviate this, by merging all discussion of a particular topic into one place. I, myself, tend not to bother looking at the multiplayer boards as I have very little interest in multiplayer. However, if I were to look down a Halo 5 board and see a multiplayer topic, I'd be more inclined to see and post in it, maybe I'm just wierd or it could help promote discussion. Or at least the illusion of activity. Similar to Halo Trilogy and MCC- why not just add the Halo 1-4 boards to MCC? They are all covered by MCC, so separating the discussion seems a tad foolish, if you ask me. Which you didn't. I crashed the party by kicking down the door, shouting at your friends and eating all of the cake before I'm kicked out. No, I don't know where that was going. Anyway, I hope that, should Twam or any of the mods read this and take it seriously, you consider the ideas and decide of I'm talking a load of rubbish or I'm a really smart guy who deserves a certificate. Thanks for reading ^ ^ Here's another, much more streamlined idea. Though it probably wouldn't work just based off how this place works. *admin stuff like general discussion* General Halo Discussion - Discuss any halo related content here Multiplayer Discussion - Discuss multiplayer stuff here Story Discussion - Discuss Halo Lore here Customs Discussion - Discuss forge, custom games and firefight here Other Franchise Discussion - Discuss non-halo franchises Probably wouldn't work Or we could have 'good halo games' and then a board for Halo Reach and Halo 3 :^)
  14. It would seem issue 24 is the final one, too
  15. It works extremely well on Battlefield 3 and 4 on console. AFAIK, they work very much the same as PC versions of the game. It's possible.
  16. That's what I said. The != means 'does not equal'. As in, correlation does not equal causation. It's a sign used in code wen you need to check if something does not equal.
  17. Eh. The majority of the team at this point is focusing on making Halo 5 not a crappy launch. Once H5 is out, we'll probably see some more content for MCC. Besides, the game is more or less functional for the majority of people. Unfortunately, it's not as much a priority as the upcoming game is.
  18. Well, have fun not playing splitscreen, then. The game's about to go into mass production, so very little is changing now.
  19. PEGI is still giving it the same rating (16+) so nothing has changed in Britain. It's only America, really, where this will affect anything. Correlation != causation
  20. You are really quite late on the news. The game has been out for months. Am I supposed to have heard of you? I mean, I have an account on bnet, too, so I don't really see what you're trying to prove.
  21. Update 12/08/2015 -Halo Last Light release updated properly -Shadow of Intendnt release updated properly -Halo: New Blood physical release date added
  22. You know what's worse than 'restricting creativity?', allowing people to brick their console because they placed 700 fusion coils in one place. I'm sure everyone would accept that as their fault when they crash their game or break their console instead of blaming the developers and demanding refunds! /sarcasm Nah. Forge is, like, map making lite. Far Cry is here it starts to get fairly in-depth before any full map editing kits like those in HCE or Bethesda's modding kits.
