The needles may travel slowly, it may not have target tracking or it has less tracking ability than the needler has, the shotgun may be one shot etc... It was a shotgun that shot a single shard of needles, but there were like 50 in the bunch needles that would slowly spread, so the weapon just obliterated up close, and then took several shots from mid range to get a super combine.
