  1. Also that last one in the original list was from a Dave Barry article, I remember because I'm pretty sure they used it on the back cover of the collection I had. Guy's hilarious.
  2. "You must have smelled my giant bucket of slops and wallowing-mud."
  3. Gotta say the Halo CE tank and Warthog, ******* indestructible vehicles, except I didn't care for the "shoot the vehicle and the driver takes damage bit", but I suppose that was to balance the fact that the Warthog took direct tank/SPNKr blasts like a champ. The Halo 2 tank was the **** as well. And props to Tallgeese, keeping it real with the Gundam references. Of course, Forerunner Tank would've dominated all.
  4. New piece still in progress, it's the Autumn! She hasn't been hit yet! This is a basic pencil drawing, will post more when I'm done.
  5. The greatest thing I ever saw in Halo had to be the first time I looked up and saw the ring in Halo CE. I had no idea what the game was about, and I was in a multiplayer match with my cousin on his Xbox. I'd never even used an analog controller so naturally I was running around staring up into the sky for a few minutes while I got the hang of it, and I saw that there was this huge structure rising from the horizon. When I saw that it extended all the way across the sky I almost **** myself because I'd never seen anything that cool, and to be honest it's the coolest thing I've seen anywhere since in terms of scenery or a setting (the only thing that came close was the Grid in Tron: Legacy [sure the acting sucked, but that movie was the most visually-entrancing thing ever if you saw it in theaters when you were stoned, which I did three times, and no shame]). ******* mind blowing. It'll probably never be matched.
  6. This was the first game I ever played online regularly. So many kills, so many matches, so many memories of badass **** the like of which simply cannot every be replicated. The ultimate LAN game, and my favorite multiplayer Halo experience. Just a beautiful, balanced game. Everything was on an even keel, and everyone could rise through the ranks, given they had the skill and dedication, because of the excellent matchmaking (levellers be damned).

    RE: The SAW

Are you seriously eleven? Don't go telling me my opinion is worthless, you weren't even alive when I started merking people in video games. Just as long as I feel like it's the culmination of my 30 years of combat when I pick it up.
  8. Star Wars for certain, they've got a much greater control over their galaxy and they're united. Halo only has 2 groups and they're already at war. Even the Forerunners couldn't stand up to the Empire, they're just too huge. The Empire had a stranglehold on the entirety of the galaxy.

    RE: The SAW

The point I'm making is that the SAW is a totally redundant weapon (because of the removable turret, which is why I bring it up) that isn't particularly interesting or innovative because it's so ordinary and commonly used in other games. Of course the Marines can use the other weapons, but I'm not talking about the other weapons, I'm talking about huge ******* guns that they couldn't use. I've said it about three times now: I'm not a Marine in Halo. I don't want to be limited to the kind of things that Marines can do. That's why I was attracted to these games going back to Combat Evolved, because I liked seeing the Chief flip a tank, then jump into a Banshee and instantly know how to work it, then break an Elite's spine with one hit, then sprint into a company of enemy troops with no support, then chuck a grenade 300 yards, then RIP A ******* TURRET OFF ITS TRIPOD AND CARRY IT AROUND, LIKE A BOSS. If the weapon itself isn't interesting or innovative, I don't want to see it in Halo. I'm talking in circles now, but if I'm going to use a heavy weapon with my 500-years-in-the-future-Space-Warrior, I want it to be cool as ****, and the typical SAW is not cool as ****. I'm on board with the pistols and the assault rifles and all the other staples because they're basic tools of the trade, but heavy weapons are where developers are supposed to really flex their creative muscles. [edit] And I'm not trying to sound like an ******* or bash you personally, but I feel very strongly about this subject. Otherwise I wouldn't have made a thread about it.
  10. Hey, I couldn't find a previous art-related thread so here's a brand new one. I spent a while doing a couple iterations of a drawing of the Chief from a trailer that I'm sure we all recognize. Obviously I'm just posting this to stroke my ego, but that's cool, right? No? Too late. This is one draft (done in Ultra-Fine Point Sharpie), I'm pretty happy with it and I just wanted to share it with a like-minded community, because frankly even art-centric forums aren't worth **** unless you're an actual artist, and I'm just a neophyte hobbyist. If anyone else has any art they'd like to share, Halo-related or not, I'll throw in my two cents on it, and I always appreciate critique of course.
  11. Haha this was the best! Everyone was always screaming whenever the zombies came in and we'd all be meleeing boxes and **** in front of the door to make a barrier. And yes, always on Foundation. Great times, almost as consistent as SWAT on Lockout
  12. I like Johnson but that sounds too generic. If I had to pick another character, I'd go with the Aussie. He was a bad ************, and if I had to pick a random ODST to go into a fight with me, I'd always single out the Aussie and bring him along. I also liked the Arbiter, he probably has the coolest character development arc of anyone in the series.
  13. You'd think since they're using a mini fusion reactor they could just eject it from the suit, how much power does converted human waste provide by comparison?
  14. Holy crap, no mention of bananas! Anway, I thought it was pretty good, production value was sick as hell for a web series. Acting wasn't exactly top-of-the-line but it was solid all around, especially during the climax, they were doing better than most of the **** you see on network TV nowadays. Action was light because it's expensive to do action, but what they did was pretty badass. As to the sixth episode, I thought it was pretty clear that 5 was the end, didn't you? It was a satisfactory wrap up.
  15. I like Jamie Foxx or Keith David for Johnson (OR Michael Kenneth Williams, that'd be awesome). Go stuntman and Steve Downes for Chief. I think Ron Perlman could do Lord Hood just fine. I'd like Nestor Carbonell to do Mendoza and Joseph Gordon Levitt for Jenkins. Christopher Walken as Gunny from the beginning of Halo 2. Jean Reno and Edward Norton for miscellaneous Marines. Cortana could be Anne Hathaway. Gary Oldman for Keyes for damn sure. Hugh Jackman as the Aussie.
  16. I don't want to step on any toes here, but you can go to hell forever for picking that up even once. Anyway, I dug the Halo 3 BR and the sniper, the Halo 2 SMG, the CE pistol and the CE shotgun. Grenades were best in CE, as was your throwing ability.

    RE: The SAW

No, but my heavy weaponing is. And that's the point, the entire reason Halo is cool is that there is no Marine that can do everything the Chief does.

    RE: The SAW

Are you sure player speed went down in 2/3? I always feel like I took a speed decrease when I go back to that game. As for the rest of all that, I can't speak for it. You've clearly thought more about the game-designing aspect of it more than I have. I just didn't want to see 343 make my favorite game into something mundane so that little kids who've played ****ty tactical shooters their whole lives will have an easy power weapon. An easy power weapon that the Chief would scoff at and say, "Where're my rotating barrels, when I kill something I want to kill it forever, and I don't want to be able to sprint off like a ***** afterwards, because I'm a SPARTAN and the glory's in the challenge."
  19. Your avatar makes up for it though. Only useful Z-Fighter beside Goku.

    RE: The SAW

I'm not concerned with the name at all, my issue lies in the fact that I don't feel like a badass when I'm walking around with an ordinary machine gun. I don't play Halo to do stuff any ordinary soldier could do. That's why I made the point about the turret: I thought that was probably the coolest innovation in Halo 3 because it was just unprecedented awesomeness to rip a turret off and walk around with it. I also see it as redundant when you consider there's already an overabundance of close-range assault weapons, but even that's secondary. And in any case, I always liked the name SAW, it sounds cool, though you're right, it did make me instantly connect it to the many tac-shooter games out there. CoD is the one I compared it to because it's the most over-hyped, in my opinion. I can't speak for everyone else, obviously. To bookend that, fellow Illinoisan.
  21. This was pre-ODST though, so I didn't think it relevant On that I'll just have to stand corrected.

What do you mean by that?
  23. Ship Name: Apollo's Chariot 1 km long, .2 km wide Horus/Thor class crossover. Massive propulsions coupled with low mass make it fast and a small target. Black with forest green trim. Large viewing port on bridge. More troop transport than fighting bird. Standard Archer pods and MAC accompaniment. 10 SHIVA nuclear warheads. Extraordinary supply of ODSTs as this ship is designed to move quickly into orbit and disperse troops. Team of 10 SPARTAN IIs and 30-40 SPARTAN IIIs. 300 SPARTAN IVs. Almost exclusively ground attack vehicles (tanks, Pelicans, Falcons, Warthogs, Elephants, etc). Light supply of highly advanced Sabre fighters for ship-to-ship encounters and 20 Longswords. Noted for unparalled maneuverability and acceleration, when handled properly. Involved in recapture of Harvest under Admiral Cole. Was a major player in the defense of Earth and was developed at top-secret Onyx shipyards. Deployed in [iNSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE]. Spartan Name: Glanton Callsign- S-078 (aka Ghost) Silenced BR All Recon with SPARTAN IV helmet Black, Forest Green No emblem, as the contrasting colors attract attention Leonis Minoris, Kholo, Charybdis IX, Jericho VII, Chi Ceti, Tribute, Earth (reclamation), Meridem, New Jerusalem, [CLASSIFIED], [CLASSIFIED], [CLASSIFIED], [CLASSIFIED], [FURTHER REQUESTS DENIED {see all 38 errors y/n}] Has known the Chief since both were in indoctrination. Both have served at several of the aforementioned engagements, as well as [CLASSIFIED] Widely regarded as the best stealth infiltrator. Fred gave him the nickname of "Ghost". He isn't the strongest or the best shot, but he has the respect of the Chief, which he earned when he saved his (Glanton's, not the Chief's) team from a Covenant stronghold on Tribute without firing a shot (because he had no weapon but a combat knife). His battle record is extensive, yet the Covenant know next to nothing about him. Leads "Martyr" Company. His primary reputation among the other SPARTAN IIs is "ruthless motherfu*ker". Nice thread, people.
  24. They deliberately made them larger and tougher in Reach, with the justification that they were bigger, easier targets.
