  1. I agree. She is way too important. I didn't realize it until she was gone, but cortana is every bit as important to halo as chief himself
  2. "death of cortana = death of halo" That's honestly all that needs to be said. Halo without Cortana is like a sandwich that consists of two pieces of bread and nothing else
  3. Yeah it's a shame. It's ironic because before halo 4's release I was super worried that they would mess up the multiplayer. I actually really like the multiplayer, but I'm done with the game because they killed the campaign. My guess is that 343 didn't understand how important cortana+chief was to the fan base, and dreamt up their own idea on a replacement for cortana. The logical solution was to quickly kill off cortana in halo 4. It's reassuring to see all the knee-jerk reactions to cortana's death, because I doubt they'll completely ignore what some 95% of the fanbase wants.
  4. Amen. I'm glad there's a lot of us on here who agree. 343 is playing with fire in a big way here. There's no need to reinvent the wheel here. The older players have adapted to a ton of change in this game, with the new enemies, weapons, the centralized role of the infinity, etc. Why alienate so many people by removing cortana from the series??
  5. Yeah I saw that yesterday and almost crapped out a brick. It says something like "Chief must move on after the death of Cortana." My hope is that they said that in the description because he thinks she's dead, regardless of whether or not she actually is. OP, couldn't agree with you more. If halo is now sans Cortana it will feel wrong and I think that will be reflected in sales for the game. But let's be patient, keep in mind that after halo 2 the fate of Cortana was anyone's guess. It could well be that much or all of halo 5 will revolve around locating and saving Cortana. 343 isn't stupid, and they must know how essential the Cortana/Chief dynamic is. I doubt they'll risk killing her off for good but time will tell.
  6. ^^^This. Plus, Chief promised Cortana that he would get her to Dr. Halsey. A backstory of the first 3 halo games was how Chief always kept his promises to Cortana. She even said the line "don't make a girl a promise..." so it's basically heresy on 343's part if they leave the Cortana story this way. To all the people saying that it would be cheesy if they brought Cortana back, I would suggest looking into the halo lore. Off the top of my head, I can probably think of 10-15 ways to bring Cortana back that would be in perfect accordance with the halo story. Either way, it'll be interesting to see what they do with halo 5. Huge decision for sure...
  7. Yeah this is already my second post on the issue but I am frankly still reeling from the death of Cortana. I'm trying to get used to the idea but the little kid in me who first fell in love with Halo CE is simply not okay with 343 stepping in and immediately killing Cortana. Breaking my heart 343, breaking my heart
  8. Yeah I read your post. I thought you made a solid point but I respectfully disagree about not wanting Cortana back. Honestly, there are plenty of ways to keep the halo franchise fresh, and killing Cortana is not necessary. Seriously, I play video games for fun. The death of Cortana was not fun. I know that I probably sound like some weird gamer nerd when I say this, but the separation of Chief/Cortana really gets to me. I just think it goes against the halo that I've always known and loved. I think 343 did an amazing job with the game, but for me there's no point in playing a halo game without Cortana
  9. I grew up playing this game & I swear to the heavenly skies above that if Cortana is not in halo 5 my $60 will be spent on crack-cocaine to ease my pain rather than a halo game without Cortana. Halo is Cortana + Chief... Kill everyone else if you want it to be emotional but please for the love of God almighty do not kill Cortana :/

    Competitive vs Casual

In this context, the words "casual" and "competitive" can be replaced by "small skill gap" and "large skill gap," respectively. Personally, I don't understand why 343 couldn't have just a few competitive playlists in halo 4. That way, the really good players and the players who are just playing for fun could be separated. Have a slayer, objective and MLG playlist with large skill gaps and traditional ranking systems. Then have slayer, objective, action sack, snipers, swat, etc., with an xp-based ranking system. This will satisfy serious and casual gamers alike.
  11. @Upton889 the ranks are hidden because a system called "boosting" developed in halo 3, where people would pay money or msp to get accounts that had rank 50. Unfortunately this is a classic case of the few ruining it for the many, but what can we do? I'm honestly fine with any ranking system at this point; I'm much more concerned that Helen Keller will be able to beat me in halo 4 because her aim-accelerated assault rifle will destroy the concept of skill

    Halo 4 MAPS

Construct, guardian, the pit, midship, warlock, sanctuary, narrows. Any one of those maps and I will be a happy man.
  13. Hayabusa, I hope you're correct. If you are, and halo 4 indeed has a bigger skill gap than reach, I will eat my words and sing the praises of 343. I would love nothing more than to be wrong here. At the e3 presentation of halo 4, I can tell you for a fact that the br was a 5-shot kill, even at close range. The kill time is a comical 1.83 seconds. The dmr and carbine, for perspective, had kill times in the 1.4 second range. That is not toning back a powerful weapon to balance gameplay. That is trashing a weapon to appease whiney casual players. I apologize if you've seen my last few comments (on these two simultaneous threads) as pejorative. I truly don't mean to offend. It goes without saying that my view on halo is very different from the average user on here. It's just frustrating for me to see what halo is becoming. Everything that I've seen about halo 4 points to a halo reach-like disappointment. I know that hardly anyone on this forum cares (and I'm not saying they should), but the competitive halo scene is falling apart. I think it'd be a shame for all halo fans if halo 4 is not an mlg title.
  14. Haha the mods can do what they want to my account. The bottom line is that this is an online gaming forum. If the opinion of a (albeit irate) longtime halo player are completely inconsiquential, I might as well speak my mind. Now back to your point. The issue with what you're contending is skill. It doesn't matter if the br is 4 shot or 5 shot or 10 shot kill. A perfectly used br should beat a perfectly used spiker or asssult rifle or whatever other automatic weapon those geniuses have dreamt up for this "competitive"*** title. Every game has a skill gap. It concerns me that halo, once the alpha and omega of the fps world, is going to diminish the game's skill gap ON PURPOSE. I have followed mlg since 2005. The decreased skill gap in halo is deplorable, but it is not debatable.
