The semi weekly site poll four!

Coming back for its fourth edition is the semi weekly site poll!
Its been a whole month now of me doing these things and its been a blast doing them.

Now onto this weeks question. smile.png

One of the most undoubtable accomplishments of Halo Reach is its deep customisation system. With Halo 5 close to release it has been confirmed that customisation being limited to only, the helmet, the visor, and your body type. This is of course in sharp contrast to Reach that allowed you to also customise both shoulders, your knees, your chest plate among other parts of your Spartan.

So I ask, are you satisfied with the Halo 5 customisation system or do you wish it was much more extensive like Halo Reach?

Until next time folks: Voting ends on September 6th.

If you have any suggestions or criticism, feel free to pm me.

I have no problem with the low amount of areas if the amount of Armor sets is high. Mixing and matching should still be possible and even with just Head, Torso, Knees, shoulders, if the amount of armor permutations there is above a decent number. We don't really know how much armor is in the game. I think a good number of different armor types would be 25 to 40. I would need that many to be okay. Especially when you don't have Playable elites, we'll really see how far they push customization with basic pieces.

I say it's really too early to tell on this one. I wouldn't be able to answer till I either get the game, or/and see all armors.

Halo Reach was ridiculous in customisation. There was simply too much to track and they cost too much. Many of the pieces were ridiculous eg 5000 for a camera.

Halo 5 is going to be better with customisation as 343 have taken out the stupid bits and put in easy to manage customisation. And for those Bungie fan boys who make up any excuse to hate 343, use your head. More isn't always better and change happens. Suck it up, stop moaning and leave Reach behind

The thing with Halo Reach and armor customization was that it was more for you to personalize your spartan to a great level as s/he was the one being played in Campaign. You are the one fighting the battle with Noble team, you are the one escorting Cortana, you are the one who *****SPOILER***** dies in the end as the helmet you pick out for yourself winds up being buried in the ground. So the armor customization gives the player that feel of 'this is me playing this game with noble team' and not just another pre-built character. That is why, I believe, Halo Reach had so much depth to the armor system... because they wanted you to create your own spartan that would fight alongside noble team in the campaign.

For Halo 5 Guardians, you are not playing as yourself... but as Master Chief and Spartan Locke. These are already pre-made characters who already have a story and a persona. Halo Reach was about You as a spartan. Halo 5 Guardians is about Chief and Locke.

So with that said... I am not disappointed with the limited armor customization. I think that it pulls back into the Halo 3 style where the change of armor doesn't really distract anyone from the multiplayer much.

I know I'll get a lot of flak for this, but the honest truth is that I actually really disliked armour customisation in Reach. It's not so much the visual design as it is that I don't like how much it affects the player's silhouette and outline. Some of the bulkier attachments, like the Grenadier chest piece and EVA shoulders, are extremely large, and yet they don't count as a part of the player's hitbox, thus obscuring your view and making it just a little harder to tell whether or not a given shot will hit your target - which is particularly frustrating for competitive play, especially in a game with reticule bloom. Things like attached cameras and armour on the helmet also interfere with judging the size of the head hitbox, and that of course is a huge issue in a game like Halo, where headshots are absolutely vital.

The other thing I didn't really like about the Reach system was the method of using credits to unlock various armour pieces - it wouldn't have been so bad if the costs were low, but most armour was extremely expensive, and a lot of it was gated off behind rank anyway. I'm definitely hoping for more of a Halo 3-style system this time, where armour is unlocked through your achievements in-game. What I saw of it in the beta looked promising in that way, but I don't know if they've confirmed how armour is acquired or not yet.

In terms of restricting us to just body, helmet, and visor, I have to admit I'm a little bit disappointed. Provided all armour segments are equally sized and don't interfere with hitbox size and outline, I don't really see the issue with allowing us to pick bits individually - extra customisation is always nice, and taking it away without explanation is a blow. Then again, perhaps it's to allow for more detail or better animation around connected body parts (Reach was atrocious for clipping), and ultimately it is purely cosmetic, so while I can't say I like having customisation options removed, it's not a huge issue for me.

In my opinion, I'm pretty much fine with Halo 5's armor customization.

Although, I did love what Reach had to offer, there is more than just armor that really comes into play, aesthetic wise.

Halo 5, aside from armor sets, will feature the following cosmetic items; Armor / Weapon Skins, Assassination Animations, Stances, and on the rare occasion - Vehicle skins.

And on top of that, everything that is seen can be earned in game through extensive play (like Reach), so I'm honestly perfectly fine with it.

I kind of look at it like, one step forward, but two steps back. Sure, we're limited armor wise, but there is just so much more that comes into play.

TL;DR - Halo 5 has my vote.

I personally think Halo 4 had the best customisation in terms of choices, however, it had by far the worst designed armours out of any Halo game made. Around like 5% of them were actually tolerable, and a couple being decent to look at. With Halo 5, the armours already look better than the vast majority of the ones from Halo 4, even if in the beta they were very shiny/toy-like.

As long as Halo 5 can nail the designs, I don't mind how minimalistic or over the top it goes with armour customisation.

Most of the armor from Halo: Reach I strongly disliked in terms of helmets. Torso, Knee Pads, Etc. were fine in my opinion.

Halo 4's was much more promising, with neat designs and flashy armor. ^_^

Halo 5's armor customization looks fine, I wouldn't want it to be more like reach personally.

I mean just look at it.. I hope that pic is accurate.. it's from the beta so I'm going off of that.

Personally I'm happy with Halo 5's customisation options. Halo: Reach tried out newer ways to armour up the Spartans, but the efforts undergone by the game developers were slightly pointless. I'm not too desperate for visor colours or wrist pieces. I like the idea of some things such as the TACPAD, but Halo 3 was a massive enjoyment and it had very limited armour customisations in comparison. To many, Halo 3's multiplayer was "better" than Reach's overall, yet it had far less options when it came to selecting armour. Things can begin to get a little stupid when customisation gets taken too far as well. I like things practical and realistic, any armour option should have a militaristic purpose. I'm fine with what Halo 5 has in store.

Reach is and always will be the best halo game of all time, Halo 5's lack of customisation is a bad choice in my opinion. You shouldn't get rid of features in a game you should add more.

Halo 2 is and always will be the best Halo game. It revolutionized online multiplayer on consoles.

You didn't play the beta?

I would like to see deeper customization. The armor customization is like the only thing I like about the modern Halo games.

What the next Halo game needs to do is return to the core experience that made Halo 2-3 great.

No she didn't. Not everyone can afford an X1 let alone the time.

As far as armor customization goes, Caboose. I don't care to be honest. If I get my Scout (Halo 3), Pilot (Reach), or Operator (Halo 4) as an option. I'm good.

So basically at least helmet customization is all I need.

Then you might not be too happy to learn the Fotus armour is making a return. :D

Thanks everyone for all the replies.

Now for the results of the poll: The majority of the site users who posted were satisfied with the Halo 5 customisation system.

I was going to mention the FOTUS armour, but I didn't want to upset P34nut. Good thing it's non-canon, and doesn't actually exist.
