Halo fans, hell, fans of science fiction in general, have been following the fortunes of the Halo franchise’s jump from the video game medium into TV and Film for a number of years, yet for all the news, rumours and reported signs of progress, fans have yet to experience any such benefit.

Until now, until Halo: Faith. The Halo fan film that will hopefully satisfy long time fans and shame Microsoft and the movie studio’s into actually getting off their arses and doing something about the goldmine franchise they’re sitting on. The only question is, will whatever the studio’s eventually come up with be as good as this fan film? Because from what I’m seeing so far, this looks pretty baddass!

The fan film was been directed by Jared Pelletier, who already has a number of short films under his belt, and is written by Jake Commons. Interestingly, Halo: Faith will go in the same direction as the Mortal Kombat webisodes we’ve been touting here recently and will be released via Machinima.com’s youtube channel which I personally think is an excellent platform in which to launch the series. The Machinima channel gets some serious traffic as the Mortal Kombat webisodes have already shown and combined with the massive fan-following the Halo games generate, I have no doubts this fan film will get both the praise and attention it deserves.

Fan films have become a popular staple of the internet geekdom as of late, with web technology coming on leaps and bounds over the years, the imagination and desire of both geeks and film makers alike have kept in stride. The most notable efforts thus far in my mind are the Firefly fanfilm, Browncoats, as we reported last year (you can view the trailer here) and the infamous Batman: Dead End trailer which pits the Dark Knight against Aliens, Predators, hell, even the Joker.

But according to the makers of Halo: Faith, this isn’t just any fan film:

The goal of this project is to set a new standard in this level of filmmaking (and hopefully get us noticed for doing so!). We’ve seen tons of fantastic fan work before, so we figured we would change it up. We recruited designers, artists, and a number of other top post professionals from films such as ‘Avatar’, ‘The Hulk’, and ‘The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe’ to bring the film to life. Our environments are entirely CG along with all elements aside from our main live action characters and props. The processes we’re taking are not breaking new ground in film as a whole, but are changing the form at the level we’re working.

More than a ‘Halo fan film’, our movie is an experiment in pushing the limits of visual effects, wrapped in a ‘Halo’ package making the content more accessible.

Nobody is doing what we’re doing, period. For this reason alone, we are excited to deliver an amazing experience to all of you. Thanks for the continued support, and we hope you’re excited too!

meh im not excited, they will put it off again or something, it will be delayed for a good few years.

I'm with Biggles. It will be delayed or canceled, most likely both.

Ya'll know its aired from youtube by machinima right? Directed by the RvB guys? They aren't gonna do that as it would hurt their business. BAD.
