    • When you start a new island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you'll find an assortment of flowers of one type on your cliffs. As you play, you'll be able to buy more flower seeds and plant a variety of flower species to spruce up your island paradise. All of these flowers will be red, yellow, or white, but there are also quite a few other colors you can get if you learn to garden the Animal Crossing way. These "hybrid" flowers include black, blue, purple, pink, and orange variations of the flowers you can plant normally. Hybrid flowers aren't just pretty--they can sometimes attract rare bugs you couldn't get otherwise and can also be used as crafting ingredients, so it's a good idea to have at least a few on your island. Types Of Flowers Like with your native island fruit, there will be one type of flower that grows on your cliffs when you start the game; keep in mind that you'll need a ladder to scale the cliffs. You can buy other varieties of flowers (in seed form) from Tommy in Resident Services or at Nook's Cranny when it opens. The flower varieties include: Continue Reading at GameSpotView the full article
    • Curious, I haven't had very much time to play it myself.
    • There are a ton of reasons to use a VPN in today's world. Being able to connect to a private network and hide your true location has a lot of security benefits, but it can also be a great way to access content that's restricted to specific regions from around the web--I even use one to look at other region's prices for GameSpot's deals coverage. And if you're stuck inside during these trying times, you may be looking at another country's available movies and TV shows, wondering how you can watch them. A safe, secure VPN is the answer. Now, there are a ton of free VPN options out there, but I wouldn't recommend any of them. It can be hard to tell which ones are actually of good quality and even harder to know if any of them are monitoring, using, and/or selling your personal information. My suggestion is to avoid all the free options. Thankfully, there are a number of affordable and great VPN providers out there, all of which have been tested and verified by us or our sister site CNET. We've selected a handful that we trust and included their best deal, but if you're looking for even more options, be sure to check out CNET's guide to the best VPN service for 2020. • Housing is hard to come by in the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, as there's limited space and lots within the game's residential areas. It's why Square Enix also has a condition that if a house hasn't been accessed for 30 days, it'll be marked for automatic demolition--and after 45 days of inactivity, the house will then be removed. However, citing the effects of coronavirus and its impact on people's situations--and by extension, its player base--Square Enix has enacted a temporary freeze on its housing policy. On the official FFXIV site, Square Enix put out a statement about the change and stated, "Taking into account the world-wide spread of the COVID-19 (also known as 'novel coronavirus') and the economical effects of various cities going into lock-down, we have decided to temporarily suspend automatic housing demolition." The freeze on housing demolition went into effect immediately. However, if your house had already been marked for demolition prior to the change in policy, you'll need to access your house in order to save it. The freeze will be in effect indefinitely as the FFXIV team said that it will "monitor the situation in the coming days, and inform you all when we have come to a decision that auto-demolition can commence again." • If you thought March already had enough to keep you busy with big games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Doom Eternal, then you're mistaken. April is nearly upon us, and with it comes riveting dose of nostalgia in the form of top-tier classic game remakes, Final Fantasy VII and Resident Evil 3. Another notable standout this month is Microsoft's Gears Tactics, an XCOM-style spin-off of the Gears of War franchise, which comes alongside several other releases both big and small. To give you a look at what's ahead for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch, we've rounded up all the biggest games of April 2020 below. For a broader look at the titles still to come this year, be sure to check out our list of game release dates in 2020. Resident Evil 3 (PS4, Xbox One, PC) -- April 3 Following the success of last year's Resident Evil 2 remake, Capcom is already giving us a remake of Resident Evil 3. As returning series protagonist Jill Valentine, you embark on a perilous journey to survive the early days of Raccoon City's zombie outbreak. All the while, a towering bioweapon known as Nemesis hunts you at every turn, making your struggle to escape that much more difficult. Like its predecessor, RE3 reimagines the events of the original to create a unique survival-horror experience that looks to defy the expectations of longtime series fans, while also terrifying and surprising newcomers. • The second of Borderlands 3's DLC expansions--Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock--has been released and so I figured it would be as good a time as any to jump back into Gearbox's first-person loot shooter. The Borderlands franchise has a decent track record when it comes to DLC and it's been a few months since I played the third mainline installment so, ya know, why not? However, I wasn't particularly enthused by my time with Guns, Love, and Tentacles, largely because Gearbox's interpretation of H.P. Lovecraft's work incorporates some of the problematic parts of the author's worldview and then does nothing to address them. It's the DLC's portrayal of black people that irks me the most, largely because of the Borderlands franchise's style of storytelling. Borderlands games traditionally explore concepts or pieces of pop culture through sarcasm, satire, or playful homage. Gearbox takes something that already exists and adapts it to match its style of irreverent Borderlands mayhem. Continue Reading at GameSpotView the full article
    • Nintendo shared a new trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition during this week's surprise Nintendo Direct Mini. Along with giving us another look at the upcoming game, the presentation revealed that there will be entirely new story content, and you'll be able to play it right from the beginning. Nintendo confirmed on Twitter that the new epilogue story in Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition--called Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected--will be available from the outset, so you won't first need to clear the main storyline to access it. That's good news if you've previously played the game and want to jump right into the new content, as the main story can take upwards of 100 hours to finish. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is slated to launch on May 29. However, as Nintendo noted at the start of the Direct Mini, release dates that were announced during the presentation are subject to change due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. • Fortnite's Week 6 challenges of Season 2 are now live, and like last week's batch, these are themed around the Meowscles skin. That means that you'll need to do some cat-like things to complete a few of the missions, such as destroying dog houses. If you're not sure where those can be found, we've put together the map and guide below to help you out. Where Are The Dog House Locations? Dog houses aren't exactly prominent fixtures, so you may have some trouble tracking them down. Fortunately, there are quite a few of them scattered around the map, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find three and complete this challenge. Many can be found by houses in big residential areas like Pleasant Park and Holly Hedges, so you'll definitely want to narrow your search to places like that. To make it easier, we've marked down some areas where you can reliably find dog houses on the map below. Fortnite dog house locations Continue Reading at GameSpotView the full article
    • In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, you could travel to a tropical island and find a variety of different fish, bugs, and fruit. This island was always the same, permanently in summer year-round. The Mystery Tour in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is an extension of this feature, with a variety of deserted islands to visit (but within your own hemisphere and season). Mystery Tour islands are much smaller than your main island, but they're great for meeting new villagers, gathering extra resources, and even making tons of money if you're lucky. We've rounded up our best tips for deserted-island hopping as well as all the types of Mystery Tour islands we've found so far. For more Animal Crossing guides, be sure to check out our guide hub, which links out to our various features explaining and answering some of the game's biggest subjects. Otherwise, read our Animal Crossing: New Horizons review in progress. Continue Reading at GameSpotView the full article
