Destiny Co-Op Required?

Bungie is designing it’s MMOFPS Destiny to be played on your own, if you prefer. But the developer has now dropped a heavy hint that the end-game missions may require you to team up with some other players.

 

 

“You absolutely are going to be able to play Destiny by yourself and have the same kind of fun shooter-experience that you could have in a single-player campaign, which is a word that we’ve weeded out of our vocabulary,” Bungie’s Jason Jones told Game Informer.

 

“But we’re going to give you this great player-progression on top of that, and we’re going to give you as many opportunities as we possibly can to expose you to other people, so that hopefully you’re drawn into some social experiences, because those are incredibly powerful and interesting, but we’re not going to force those on you.

 

“We describe it in a lot of ways as sloping the floor towards socialization, without putting a requirement on it,” he continued. “I would say that there’s some sort of – if you wanted to talk about it in MMO terms, you’d say ‘end-game activities’, but some of the most intense non-competitive activities in the game do require cooperation. They require a group of players to tackle at once.

 

“I guess at some variable, distant endpoint we are going to say, ‘Yeah, if you show up at this door, and you don’t have five friends, you’re not going to be able to succeed,’ but the core experience that solo players have enjoyed in shooters, they’re going to be able to get that, and we’re going to pull many of them into social experiences as well.”

 

So, it sounds as if it won’t just be a case of these missions being too difficult to tackle alone, but rather that being part of a team will be a requirement.

I wonder if it is going to be like one of the Halo 3 Achievements were you had to play Co-op to one of the Achievements and also like Halo 3 ODST.

it sounds like any mmo really, you can solo until the end game content and then you need groups do them, because they are too hard to do alone.

They're not forcing you to go Co-op. It's only telling you certain areas may be difficult by yourself. They SUGGEST you go with partners, but some people want a challenge...

I hope this is not true but maybe specific places but most of the time you can go solo.

I don't have that many friends I play with. I have a lot I talk to, and message once in a while, but I don't wanna send them a game invite or party invite. I don't speak unless spoken to, and I don't initiate things unless I am guaranteed a result I could pre-calculate for (to avoid getting let down or letting down someone else). So it looks like now I won't be able to get Destiny. Unless it has free-roam worlds like Runescape or GTA V online where you can explore the in-game world while other random players do their own thing in the same world, then I might have a chance. If not, hopefully you can beat it with NPC's or some form of A.I teammates...

Doubt any end game missions will ever be fully co-op requiring.

Bungie wouldn't do this to us, maybe they'll simply add in a system just like Borderlands 2's Co-op system, simply play with randoms. It makes sense to do this.

i would really like to have Co-Op in destiny since i will be able to play it with my friends but i do hope that they aren't any Co-Op achievements cos me and my friend might not get them before the game dies off on the 360
