First off, it doesn't reveal everyone on the map, only enemies near the device which is better and also it reveals your place so it's neutral and it reduces camping - basically an anti-camping device. Secondly, it allows you to see people camping around corners so you can avoid walking into traps and also avoid getting killed as much.
