Response to updates

I get that this topic has probably been made hundreds of times already, so don't read if you don't want, but i just want to air a few things that worry me about some of the multiplayer updates and why. I'm sure a lot of people share my fears.

1. Loadouts are primary weapon, secondary weapon, grenade type, armour ability and TWO more slots for modifications. Confirmed so far are quicker regeneration and more ammunition.

I'll refrain from using the word 'perks' but 343 have to be careful here, with the clear COD comparison which is bound to alienate some 'hardcore' halo fans, there is also the risk of unbalancing the multiplayer. I have confidence in 343 but still.

2. Sprint now default ability, so sprint + 1 other armour ability allowed. Has a usage meter and slow down mechanic when getting shot.

This worries me a lot, everybody being able to use an armour ability is my worst nightmare. Imagine EVERYONE in the game using jetpack, hologram or camo. It will exacerbate the 'randomness' of the gameplay already present in Reach. By this i mean, in the previous Halo games, skill was everything. If you were better than someone, you could dominate them, which made the game so much more rewarding for players who put the time and effort in to perfect their shooting. With Reach, any old idiot can ruin your day by armour locking, or jetpacking out of nowhere. I really feel that this detracted from the skill-based gameplay that made the previous Halo games so great to continue playing - you felt as if you were getting better every day and were being rewarded for it. You can see how armour abilities and the like make Halo more accessible to new players, but as a player who's been working hard to perfect his BR since the Halo 2 days, the unpredictable gameplay in Reach is incredibly annoying, and it sounds like it's more of the same in Halo 4.

3. New progression system with Spartan Points. Slowly unlock weapons, abilities and modifications for loadouts. Multiplayer AND Spartan Ops use same custom character.

It's quite obvious which game springs to mind here. In the teaser videos a lot was made of 'analysing trends in the gaming industry' and using these to bring to gamers what they want in Halo 4. The only real trendsetter i can see Halo drawing from is COD, but that's been said a million times so i'll leave that. Still - following trends is not necessarily following what people want. Some people hate the trends that COD are setting.

4. Warhouse and Wraparound multiplayer maps

This opinion is hugely subjective, but i'll share it anyway. Maps that have too much of a bottom-to-top flow of gameplay become boring to play. These maps seem like they have a lot of levels, which can sometimes lead to one team patrolling a certain area at the top while one team spawns at the bottom and runs up. (Reflection, Sword Base, etc.) I hope 343 can avoid such routine and monotonous gameplay in Halo 4.

If you read this far, thanks a lot and i'm interested to hear if you think i'm talking crap or if you agree, but please don't flame me for re-posting an old topic, i just wanted to give my two cents.

Can we stop making these threads please? I grow tired of seeing threads like these everyday that just causes arguments. Stop making references and comparisons to Cod now, just wait for E3 and wait for the actual game to be released. Only then, can you complain about the game.

Jeez... All his opinions have been provided with a logical reasoning for why he made them. And as for the OP, I pretty much agree with everything except the last one. While it is certainly true that many vertical based maps such as sword base have failed miserably, there are many examples of good vertical maps such as construct and mid-ship (Not sure if it counts as vertical).

Way I see it, Sword Bases main problem is that there was only one quick way to get up to the top level which made it easy for people to camp up top the lift. If they had added 2 or 3 quicker ways you could get up there very quickly.

Yes, but it is the same as the other threads, where someone complains about the changes. I have grown tired of this and I have lost the will to observe people's opinions on the matter.

343 has completely thought out each step they take. Balance will be achieved. These people do this for a living, you don't. They understand it all, you don't. When the game comes out, we will find out what works and what doesn't. They can update the playlists easily. Bungie sure did for 3 and Reach. Don't pre-maturely kill the game.

If anything, AA's add more skill since you have to be ready for them to jetpack up or to throw down a regen field. More situations and it adds a more futuristic feel since Halo is in the 26th century after all. The unpredictable gameplay requires more skill. I don't want the incredibly easy gameplay Halo 3 had anymore. If I did, I'd play it, not try to change the next game to be a repeat, speaking of which, every CoD is a simple repeat. Halo is changing. I don't think it is like CoD because of that. And CoD didn't invent any of it's features. NO more CoD comparisons please.

The only weapons you can pick are DMR's BR's, AR's and the like, not power weapons. Don't whine on those.

We have only seen small bits of the maps. Don't dare try to make an accurate critique. It's impossible with what we've seen, leaks and all.

Now, I wasn't trying to be hostile but these threads can spark flame wars and have been numerous.

For God's sake, why can't we wait for more info? We don't have enough to criticize the game yet. I wish people would understand that...

All I'm saying is that at least he backed his thoughts up with reasoning. It grows tiresome to hear people just flat out say Halo is turning into CoD, I agree. But the OP here has presented full reasoning for why he doesn't think the new features are a good idea beyond the CoD argument.

It adds slightly more validity (???) to his points.

I don't see too much reasoning. We have heard minimal info, and 343 is a professional company. We fans are not. I'm sure they will make good decisions and they will patch anything that is just flat out terrible. Now, does anyone realize that Bungie made many patches to their multiplayer? 343 can do the same. Let them be for now.

Everyone who has trouble playing Halo: REACH simply isn't skilled with the modern turn of the series. Those who wish for a return of the simple and now burned out Halo 3 multiplayer simply can't practice enough because they expect to be good from the get go. Not with the new features they won't. They need to get over it.

Correct again sir, top marks.

Thank you for your detailed and thought out response, you claim to try to avoid hostility but the tone of your post suggests otherwise, oh well. I thought i made it clear that i'm just articulating my initial thoughts on the updates. I don't see how saying "I hope 343 make the maps fun to play because some of the previous maps aren't in my opinion" is in any way suggesting that i am offering an accurate critique or that i think i am qualified to do so, it's just my initial reaction to reading the updates, as a humble fan of the series and to be honest i think i made that quite clear. I don't think i criticised the game, just outlined what i hope the game isn't.

If it's possible to delete your own threads then i will do so if this results in a flame war.

Staff Response
Nice to see a thread with concerns about Halo 4 being discussed nicely

Whilst we haven't seen much of the maps, I do agree with above, as I've always said Halo has to evolve or be left behind. The tired formula of Halo 3 with just gun and grenade is out dated, gamers need more to keep the variety. This was the dream Bungie had with Halo Reach, as they stated in there farewell video Reach is everything they always wanted to it put into Halo but couldn't till now.

If Halo 4 multiplayer was same as Halo 3, Halo as we know it would die.

"Don't dare" isn't always a negative thing. "Don't you dare", however always is. I simply just have to post the same thing each time a thread like this is made. Gets a bit monotone.

Spectral Jester is completely right.

I think in hindsight i guess i should 'let go' of the older versions of Halo and try to embrace the newer features. I guess i've invested so much time/money/(emotion, dare i say) into Halo 1, 2 and 3 that it can be difficult to accept change. If anything, my friends that hated playing Halo 3 now enjoy playing Halo: Reach and that can only be a good thing. At least there is MLG which is stripped back to basics, just how i like it!

It just sounds like you need to go outside and get some fresh air. Do something new, something exciting, somethng worth talking. Look outside...you see the trees, the luscious sky, the soaring sun, and chilling clouds? They're waiting for you...go get 'em champ!

I definitely respect your opinion but going into armor lock, evading, jetpacking above everybody, etc. takes no skill at all. I agree with you that you have to be aware of those things potentially happening but I wouldn't say that waiting for somebody to get out of armor lock or shooting somebody out of the air requires any more skill than the guy without those. And I'm also not sure how you concluded that Halo 3 has easy gameplay. The competition was as good as any.

Oh, tracking the guy soaring through the air requires skill. I can tell you that. Armor lock is out so that one doesn't matter. But you had to time your grenade or shot right. Skill. Evading requires you to have quick reflexes. Skill. Drop shield required you to adapt to C.Q.C. Skill. You have to adapt to the situations. Halo 3's gameplay gets really easy once you get good at reach. Mainly because you don't have to worry about jetpacks and the like. No need to quickly adapt. I don't even know how you came to the conclusion that defeating those require no skill. But this game takes place almost 500 years from now. AA's only make it more realistic. I mean, get real about it. Without these features, it seems like a game from yesteryear.

Judging by how much of a ****** you look in your photo, you should probably stay inside and get less fresh air. Do nothing new, nothing exciting, nothing 'worth talking' to avoid subjecting unsuspecting members of the public to that god awful shirt and your embarrassing 'swag'.

That may not be him in that pic. Judging by how much of a d*** you sound like in your comment, you should probably stay inside to avoid subjecting unsuspecting member of the public to your embarrassing attitude.

I was being polite and respectful to everyone ITT until he got insulting for no reason. Do you really think that isn't him in his photo? Or are you just being a contrarian *******? Probably the latter.

He wasn't insulting anyone. You simply took it the wrong way. And no one knows if that is him in that picture. Just like we have no idea if that is you in your picture. Maybe not. Could be. Probably the latter. I would suggest you calm down and forget and overlook all arguments in this thread to avoid a lock on this thread. Just let the conversation continue.
