woofwoof301 Posted November 15, 2012 Report Share Posted November 15, 2012 I will start this thread off saying... the human guns sound great. They sound solid, echoey, and powerful. The Covenant and Promethean guns? Not so much. I saw a Behind-The-Scenes video from 343 showing how they made sounds for all the guns. It displayed them shooting LMGs in shooting ranges and recording the sounds. What great effort! But then, they used the same darn technique for the Alien guns. The Storm Rifle sounds like a human submachine. They wiped the classic plasma sounding Plasma rifle, Plasma repeater, plasma.... rifle sound and replaced it with a human gun sound. Not cool. It's just another gun just with a cool skin. The Promethean Suppresssor has the same problem. It sounds just like a sub machine gun. They have no sci-fi aspects to them what so ever. The Scattershot, boltshot, and binary rifle, all great. The Suppressor sounds too human imo. What do you guys think? Being an amature film editor and pac-man esque game designer, I think this problem can be easily solved just by replacing the sound files... right? Or is it much more complex on a grand scale game like this. I hope there's a solution. I"m just throwing this out there, and I hope that 343 can just change the sounds. The promethean weapons feel very uninspired to me, basically reskinned human weapons. They just need another audio effect to make it sound "alien". Listen to that HUMAN LIGHT MACHINE GUN FIRE! Does that human machine gun sound humany... or like a cool Covenant plasma sound?? I hope that redundant question makes its point. Seriously. They sound exactly the same. Go up to the previous video I posted, and go to 0:23. Pause it after you listened to the Storm Rifle fire. Then, listen to the second video. Exactly the same. Perhaps you guys never played Battlefield 3 or heard a real gun fire, but the second I heard the Storm Rifle and Supressor fire, I facepalmed because of how human they sounded. The Storm Rifle makes a guzzling sound of plasma when you stop firing it, and it gets corny. The plasma pistol really sounds like a silenced pistol, and it fires too fast imo. But from playing all the other Halo games, I know for sure that Covenant guns sound nothing like human guns. In this game, they happen to DO sound like human guns. .... I have no idea where you're coming from, it's like saying: "This Big Mac tastes like a Whopper." and then somebody like you comes in and says: "Please tell me more how your (which should be spelled you're) an expert on how Big Macs taste." If they sounded more like alien guns I'm sure that people would complain that they sounded like Star Wars blasters, or that they stole that noise from some sci-fi movie. It's not that big of a deal.
