ok, just an idea i had that may or may not be real... Ok, so in all the ACTUAL Halos (1, 2, 3) the main menu was an actual map that, using mods, you could play on them with theater or something... In Halo 4, multiplayer is based entirely on the Infinity... So, what if the main menu wasn't just a menu you selct stuff from, but it was the Infinity and you would walk around on it and go into different rooms for the different lobbies.. It would work like this:

You start the game up and when it starts, it gives you two options. Like in Halo Reach it gave you Solo Campaign or Main Menu. In Halo 4, it would give you Campaign or Infinity. If you selected campaign then it would actually put in a menu-like lobby, but if you selected Infinity it would load like a you started up a map and then you would start off in some sort of Lounge Lobby, just chillen, you would get up and you would walk around the infinity just exploring different rooms, some would be the lobbies but others would just be aesthetic rooms, you would know where the different lobby rooms are by radar, or something, but you could play around on the main menu, interact with different soldiers/ spartans, and you could find easter eggs and stuff... Anyways, the Matchmaking lobby/ room would be somewhat like a simulator room, and when you would enter, you would then press x to set up the options like in previous game's lobbies (it would be like a pop-up on your HUD), but then once you were done, one of two things would happen, if you chose to host the matchmaking server, then you would wait in the room and wait for people to enter the room. If you chose not to host the server, then it would load and then show you entering someone else's room/ lobby. Then you would wait for the server/ room to become full, you could interact with people and stuff while you waited, then once the server/ room was full you would then get a pop-up on your HUD that lets you decide on a map (out of all the maps) and the map that got the highest vote is the map that you play on, the pop-up goes away and it shows a countdown from 5 in a corner of your HUD and then the room goes dark and then matchmaking begins.

It would be similar for the other lobbies but with differences...

For Custom Games you would either invite your friend to your Infinity and then both of you would enter the custom games lobby/ room and whoever was the original party leader would then get to press x for a pop-up on your HUD and to set all the options and stuff, when you were done you would see the countdown in the corner of your HUD and then the room would go dark and your game begins.

For Forge it would be pretty much the same. You would enter the forge lobby/ room and then you would press x, get the pop-up and set the options and then start the game, countdown, room goes dark, game starts.

For theater it would be a little different. You would enter the lobby/ room it would be a futuristic movie-theater-like room and you would sit in a chair (just like a vehicle's passenger seat) and then once you sat down the pop-up would come up and you would set the film to watch, then the countdown, then, just like a movie theater, the room would go dark but then the "screen" would turn on but now your in control of the film, like in previous Halos.

For Spartan Ops, you would enter the room and it would be like a futuristic conference room. You would sit in a chair and then you would get the pop-up on your HUD, but it would it would be the mission selector and it would have info on the mission, and some sort of UNSC General would be telling you about the missions. Once you selected the mission, the room would NOT go dark, but it would show you go to a door, in that room, the General would open the door, and you (and whoever your with, if any) would enter some sort of transport vehicle (Pelican, Frigate, Longsword, etc.) and then the screen would fade out and you would then go to the designated mission.

Anyways, sorry for the long post. I had to give details to explain how it would work so you guys weren't confused. Let me know what you think! Would it be a cool addition? Or would it be too confusing?

===================EDIT======================

Ok, then what about a normal main menu, BUT, it has the option to exit out of it and then explore the ship?

It sounds good but you gotta remember...who wants to play a video game to play a video game? Having to waste time and mental energy walking a character from Main Menu Room A to Spartan Ops Room B would get pretty damn annoying by the third or fourth time.

Thousands of people wasting time or finding people to play with on playstation home would like a word with you =P

Maybe as an option. It reminds me of the Normandy in Mass Effect. Like, you wake up in a bed or cryo-tube thingy, and you can walk to places like the "Bridge" for online multiplayer, the "Personalized Scenario Training Program" for custom games, a "Theater" room, for "Playback of training events". Even a "Location Customization and Situational Awareness Training Facility", which would be Forge. It would be cool to see party members and maybe all online friends walking around too. This idea would be pretty cool, but there are a few flaws. The ship you walk around in would have to be relatively small. Smaller than the Normandy in Mass Effect anyway, considering there's only a handful of things you can really do. The actual Infinity is over 3 km long, so that would be sort of annoying to walk a mile to play Forge mode. It would take the streamlined quickness out of joining friends' parties, like in Reach and Halo 3. Other than that, I think it would be kind of cool.

But this would be a pretty expansive feature...something which would take at least as much time as a large MP map to build and program. 343 can't afford to put time into something which is only a "choice".

hey it could be like cod:blackops where have a menu in a cryo tube and u could press and hold the x button to climb out of the tube and u could have elevators to the certain areas or u could just walk to the stairway or something and go to them if you would like to do assassination training u could go to a training room on the other side of a see through mirror and it could show people using knives for training etc.....SRY for the long reply i just got mad that people get lazy and don't want to explore the INFINITY :awesome:
