Hornet Controls not working?

I'm playing Halo 3 from the Master Chief Collection. In the Hornet I can't climb. The left stick moved forward and backward. The right s  tick looks up and down. The left bumper moves  down. Am I missing something?

Not sure what control scheme you're using, but at least for me you move up and down using the right analog stick - when you look up, you go up, when you look down, you go down.

As Res said, it depends on your controller scheme. 

 

If you play on default then the right and left bumpers will descend and ascend respectively 

 

However, for me at least, A descends and X ascends.

For me it's A to ascend and LB to descend. Don't ask me how or why :S

 

I think it's mainly so you can keep your maneuverability while ascending and descending.

My control scheme is the same as P34nut's, and I was just as confused as you were... which is not a good thing on Legendary! I think the main reason why that was changed was to allow players to keep air superiority while in an aircraft, so you can shoot your foes on the ground while maintaining a safe distance. It didn't make much sense for players to use an aircraft and then descend to your target's level to hit them.
