I think we'll most likely see him return as a Supporting Character: as in one that is not playable. I do think Agent Locke will be the other playable Protagonist for Halo 5, but who knows. I feel like there's heavy evident he'll have some sort of role in Halo 5. Maybe we'll see the Arbiter as a playable Character as well. The Reclaimer Saga is confirmed to be a story about Master Chief. Unless I've missed an important update, we will not be having more playable characters in a Halo 2-Esque fashion, nor co-op. Thel has an entire planet to keep in line on Samgheilios, and Locke is hunting John and could serve as an antagonist or protagonist but not as a playable. It's not being questioned whether he was coming back or not, i thought that was always obvious, since he wasn't in Halo 4 (I believe?) it was hard to believe they would just cut him out completely. Whether we actually get to play him for a mission or 2 and he actually makes a difference to our gameplay/our side of the story is a different matter, he could just be filler, but i really doubt it, since he is very important.
