No Point to play without a RANKING SYSTEM

Like I have said in another thread, if Halo 3's TrueSkill wasn't so heavily exploited, this would not be in discussion. With all the boosting, deranking and bought accounts that was happening in Matchmaking, it made the very idea of a ranking system a joke. I played thousands of matches on Halo 3, rarely coming across any legit 50s on any playlist. All ranking systems do in Matchmaking is give reasons for some players to run their mouths, which is what they do anyway. So what is the point?

Seriously? I had a legit 50 in 4 playlists. If you were any good, it was easy. This game was way easier to get a 50 than halo 2, and there was almost no cheating. Boosting, deranking, and bought accounts do not affect someone who is playing legit, unless they are mentally weak and cry when someone in your party is bragging about his bought 50. And as for people running their mouths, nothing was better than the trash talking back in halo 2 and 3. Getting in the head of the other team was a huge part of halo that now is ruined by a combination of party chat, no ranking system, and not being able to hear the other team in the lobby.

People can say whatever they want, but as someone who has played all the halos, at launch since halo 2, I can tell you I've never seen a population drop off this quickly since halo Reach.

There was easily 4 times the amount of people playing this game at launch then what I see now, even on the weekend primetime. Yeah there are other games in the genre now the population is split because of it, but log on to COD right now and you'll see 300k plus players still on, and it's 3 in the morning on a monday.

What does you being here for a year have to do with anything? This game has only been out for about 2 months now, and your seniority on this forum doesn't discount the very valid points people bring up about the (mostly) easily fixable shortcomings with the game.

Consider this, on consoles for Major League Gaming, it was pretty much all halo in Halo 2 and 3. They didn't even use Reach and for Halo 4 the MLG community is torn on what settings to use, if even adopt the game for competetive play at all. If that doesn't send up a red flag with the state of the game and where it's heading as a whole I don't know what is. For a long time COD and halo, along with most other games have catered to casual gamers, this slowly has killed the competetive gamers, the most impassioned loyal fans, especially when it comes to fans of the halo franchise.

This is without a doubt the funniest thing I have ever heard. This is why I cannot take the idea of "competitive" or even MLG seriously.

They NEED to make the ranks visible while playing, no one wants to get on their computers to go look up the levels of the people they just played. The only biggest problem with Halo 2 matchmaking ranks were that they were SO GOOD, they made people want to cheat in every single way imaginable...IF we can stop cheating in matchmaking, BRING THE RANKS BACK PLEASE!!!!

Hey idiot I would enjoy the game if I had a reason to play like a ranked playlist and yes I do ENJOY winning the game so go suck one go play campaign with your friends and leave the multiplayer battling up to the bosses k nub .

Whoa lol. Why so serious? Don't you know that most games before the Xbox and PS3 didn't have ranks, because they were mostly offline games? What did you do then? Not play games at all? Or were you just a tourny poser who just played to earn money or something? You must not like games much man, just the feeling of winning something and feeling special. Awww who's special? You are!

Playing games for fun, and to have a good time doing it is really how games should be played. Lots of Youtube commentators play to have fun not be L33T PR0 MLG; they make money and have fun playing.

It reminds me last Christmas I downloaded a game called Rainbow Six Vegas 2 with some MS points. I sucked sooo bad at it, but the people on it where super fun to play with and no one cared about how good they did because the game doesnt even track your K/D unless you actually choose to play ranked games.(Yes RBSV2 did have MLG aswell though) For such an old game I had never had so much fun in the entire time I played that game. Whatever happened to that kind of gaming fun.

As a matter of fact thats what Im going to play tomorrow.

Haha. Reminds me of counter strike for the original Xbox.

And to that X dude whatever your name was sorry for the harsh words. Lets just move on and forget about it. I'd hate for this thread to get locked on account of its actually a good post. :)

I used to be all about winning. I could only get my 50 in Halo 3 on lonewolves. I played over a hundred games and 1st places everyone until I hit 50. I think I was a captain or a major or something. It was awhile ago. I couldn't get higher than 42 on team slayer. And the objective ones were just downhill from there.

I remember clearly raging at the game so bad back then... Now I just play for the cool things along the way that happen. I like my campaigns on legendary and veteran but as far as multiplayer goes? As long as I do better than a 1/1 K/D I'm having fun.

I love addictive multiplayer. I prefer it over gimmicks or incentives designed to lure you back with no real substance... Don't get me wrong I think they should cater to that crowd somehow so everyone is happy but that's not in escence what gaming is about.

My friend said it best to me when I got my 50 in Halo 3. He asked me if it made me feel better measuring virtual dicks because I had a silly number next to my name... Lol. Where I don't share his negativity toward the subject like he did, I can still appreciate the relevance of his point in hindsight.

The numbers don't matter. The overkills and rampages along the way were what made me feel legit.

Just do it like H3 did. have seperate ranked and social lists, someone mentioned coding, no, the templates are already in place, just needs to be integrated into the system so some minor coding yes, prolly less than 15 minutes worth.

yes there are boosters and derankers .... aka BKs ..... simple solution for derankers is to simply not allow it, once you have it you're stuck with it. It would be nice to have an option to report folks for deranking ..... who knows ..... that would make sense so I'd say don't look for it. Personally I liked running solo in ranked play lists, the team mates tended to be more motivated to use calls, even if it was only MY X lol. I did that for a long time myself until I learned the proper calls, and they were motivated to win.

Obviously I have no issue with social players and that's why I enjoyed the different social/ranked play lists. I think I was a colonel in social social slayer. Good times. Didn't care if I won but did quite a bit. I enjoyed the way you could approach the game with a different mentality. Tryhard mode, go ranked, who cares mode, go social. Met tons of players I still run with to this day in social slayer.

At the end of the day, IMO, both ranked and social lists have their place and yes, it's decidedly healthier for the game to NOT try and mix the two, keep them separate.

those who do not like ranks=casuals.

I do miss the adrenaline of trying to win a game in order to rank up. It created such a huge replay value for me.

Exactly my point that's why this game puts me to sleep no ranking system no point to play.

I'm 24 year old specialist in the US Army, husband, father, and gamer. I enjoy long walks on the beach, am originally from Florida but stationed in Fort Riley Kansas and doesn't like the cold. Lol. Thanks for asking!

Were still friends right ?

Why would I have to play Mario? I can't play Halo without ranks? I never said I didn't want ranks, it's just not an essential aspect to make the game itself fun. It doesn't make the game. Stop being an elitist butthole, seriously.

That's your opinion, it doesn't have to be his.

So you're saying that your interpretation of his "opinion" is that the game HAS TO INCLUDE ranks for it to be fun and there's no other way it can be enjoyable? Then WHY WOULD HE PLAY SOMETHING THAT WASN'T ENJOYABLE AT ALL MUCH LESS SPEND TIME COMPLAINING ABOUT IT ONLINE IN A FORUM!? Lol.

I didn't read every comment after the OP. But here's my input. Halo doesn't NEED a rank to play it. Back when Halo CE came out, there was no ranking system, but I logged hours, no days on that game. The ranking system does make things more interesting.

I think people forget what made Halo great. It wasn't the ranking system that was added to Halo 2. It was the gameplay, the hours of entertainment that was provided.

That's just how I see it. My thoughts on it all. Figured I'd give my 2 cents on the matter..

No, I said exactly what I said. Don't try to read more into it than there is.

Just because you dont care about rank doesnt mean you are a casual player. Ranks do not really mean anything in the end. It comes down to your skill versus the other at that moment. Ranks do not always represent that. I like ranks but they are not an essential part to the game. I would rather have a game with good gameplay with bad rankings than terrible gameplay with good rankings.

Its good to have a cool rank or emblem to strive for but its not necessary.

I do not need a rank to tell me how boss I am at the game, I already know it.

Still I would prefer having a rank rather than an SR number next to my name.
