Something about Windows 8 has displeased the current managing director of Valve. Despite having a faster kernel yet, Gabe Newell dismissed the soon to be released new Windows operating system as "a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space." Such harsh word from a video game development genius whose prominence on the PC market is unprecedented must mean something.

This is a man who left Microsoft in 1996 to found the video game company Valve through the Half Life series. Through his leadership Valve has produced amazing games such as the whole of the Half Life series, Portal, Counter Strike, Team Fortress, the left 4 dead series, and leading a software download crusade in the form of Source. Not a single one of these games has been anything less than worldwide hits.

This man knows a little about software development.

What I was getting from this is that he is worried about Microsoft starting to neglect the gaming market, at least the hardcore one, in favor of making a transition over to tablets.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun! put out an article about this in which they pointed out that Microsoft used the interface from the Windows phones/tablets in the PC even though it is clearly made for a touch screen and not a mouse and keyboard, this might be a sign that Microsoft is allowing the PC to take the back seat to the tablet because they feel that is where the money is.

Gabe Newell also said that he thought that the future was in Linux which I completely agree with.
