  1. I have brought up this point in my other thread, Ideal Halo 5 Design, http://www.343industries.org/forum/topic/34384-ideal-halo-5-design/ I want to make a thread to discuss this point by itself though, as my other thread is extremely all inclusive, and might not be the best place one single element. Please excuse my redundancy for the sake of good, flowing discussion. I want to know the community's opinion about this revision. The main point of the revision is to add a tactical reason to assassinate the player (animation). I view it as a tactical mistake to assassinate a player in Halo Reach and Halo 4, as it takes time, and leaves you stationary. Also you can be yoinked, which is no fun. A nice aesthetic, and satisfying, but a mistake nonetheless. Here is how I would handle assassinations. First, a player will not be able to trigger assassinations by simply holding onto melee for a moment when behind a player. Rather, each player will have a knife (players can unlock different knives, and skins for said knives), which he or she must switch to by pressing DOWN on the d pad. Assassinating will be performed in the same way as in the past, but now, players must switch to their knife first, adding challenge to the feat. Players don't receive a higher base movement speed by pulling out their knives (what do you guys think of this?). Players cannot throw their knives. All knives have the same performance. Second, a successful assassination will cause the victim to endure a double respawn timer for that respawn. In this way, there is a reason, a reward, for going through the extra effort and risk of sacrificing your ability to do damage at range, to switching to your knife to perform the assassination, as you and your team will enjoy a short period of time where you have a numerical advantage over the enemy. Third, because of this function, melee must be nerfed to give the assassination function room. Instead of melee killing in two hits to the front, or one hit to the back, melee will kill in 3 hits to the front, or 2 hits to the back. This way, there is still an advantage to hitting a spartan in the back, and you can't simply one hit kill a spartan without going through the special effort of performing an assassination, like I have outlined above. A melee to the back, and then a melee to the front will result in a kill. A melee to the front, and then a melee to the back will kill (just to clear that up). How would you guys feel about a function like this in Halo 5?
  2. We know melee weapons exist. We've seen enemies using swords, and apparently also gotten hints that players may use them as well. But exactly how do you want them implemented? Because, yes, this is kind of a mix between a FPS and an RPG, and I would really love to use swords running around cutting into people in a swifter way than the Energy Sword's clunky 1-slash-then-cooldown-timer in Halo games. Not only that, but think of how fair it is that in competitive MM you've got a gun, put down some bullets into a guy, only to have him sprint up close and slit your throat? There's fairness issues, but I desperately want to use swords at the same time. How do you want them implemented and how do you think they will be implemented?
  3. 343 Industries I am fed up, normally I would just play and carry on but enough is enough. I have had 40-50 scorpion vehicle destroys not register toward commendations. And now in a single match literally evaporate 3 mongoose with an incineration cannon without a single addition to my commendation count. This is beyond ridiculous. The scorpions if I melee I have a high chance to not get vehicle destroy credit, pulse grenade same thing and a few other random times it never gave me a vehicle destroy. Capture the flag on Longbow using an incineration cannon I have found to be the best way for me personally to get mongoose kills. Hit them straight in the front or you'll just kill the people. That said I had three or four times that match that the mongoose survives a hit from the side with an incineration cannon. There were however 3 mongoose vehicles that evaporated and I received the kill points but not the commendation for vehicle destroy. If you don't believe me I've saved the video because I am pissed off. FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!!! And make it up to me some how because this is unacceptable. ~David http://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/games/halo4/filebrowser/details/086c3289-e971-4625-a61b-048e42071f8f
  4. Incoming wall o' text transmission There are a few serious topics going on in this forum as of late (nothing wrong with that of course) but I thought I would change the mood and dim the lighting a bit. After all there is supposedly a release coming out on the 29th and I wanted to inspire a little extra Halo love to float through the ether. I was thinking about assassinations the other day because I realized again that energy sword wielding players forgo knife assassinations and a entirely different set of animations is substituted. After playing too much grifball and searching the web for people's opinions I wanted to make a poll for your opinions of whether or not Halo 4 should include this idea of substitution for every weapon's assassination animation. Some people believe that assassinations are simply not a good thing to include at all because MC has never had a knife ingame before, I think that this could solve that problem. We can all agree that maybe players should be able to switch assassinations on and off, and the duration for holding down the melee button could be longer. The question is should weapons have different animations for assassinations? Should these animations show ammo being used (and use it, or not use it) or not? Should this not even be an issue and assassinations should be done with the hands, knife, or both? And finally should Master Chief throw in some more technical martial arts moves; kicks, Steven Segal inspired necksnaps, jujitsu, etc.? A couple ideas from me for this are: Gravity Hammer: smack to the head jab to the spine with spiked end choke hold and neckbreak with shaft Needler: normal whack but some of the needles get stuck, break off, and explode (non damaging) Magnum: spins enemy around and pistol whips in the opposite direction, breaking the neck
