  1. I stated my answer back in the article but I love the REQ Packs and potential they have. I love the idea of variations on weapons and vehicles and what team combinations can happen. Its just a novel idea that I get to have a slightly faster but weaker warthog to use on an objective run or a higher zoom sniper to sit back from a farther range(these aren't confirmed cards just predictions.). All of it just changes the dynamic of the game when you and your team see an "speedyhog" it makes you react differently then a normal Hog and I like that. It adds a layer of procedural randomness into Warzone and keeps things fresh because you never know what variations the enemy team will throw at you and you're going to have to react differently according to the situation.

  2. I'm going to start this long counter debate by saying I absolutely adore the REQ system. I love the idea of variations on weapons and vehicles and I love that Warzone REQ weapons are separate from Arena Halo. 343i is doing a wonderful job of catering to the original Halo audience with Arena(and if you're not a fan of the new mechanics you can turn them off in custom game settings and host legacy Halo matches!) and to the Halo 4/Casual audience with Warzone

I hate to say I told you all so...BUT I TOLD YOU ALL SO!  The pay to win model has finally crept into Halo for console as it was first shown to work and be incorporated into Halo: Online.  It would appear that Microsoft has had a small taste of fruits from the p2w tree in Russia and decided to have 343i add a semi same system into H5.

Halo: Online has barely even been in public alpha(I got my key last week and I signed up the second day it was revealed). Your conspiracy theory would be correct but the REQ system was most likely already in place and being tested far before Halo: Online was ever shown. It would be illogical to think otherwise because such a system would require a great deal amount of time before even being shown at the state it is now(Thats a lot of art assets and variable tweaking!) This was always the plan with Halo. This is the current trend of the entire gaming industry and it isn't 100% consumer friendly in cases making games are expensive and selling them for $60 is already selling them at a loss unless total sales numbers reach high enough to surpass the development cost of the game. Micro-Transactions and DLCs are a method of gaining more profit and potentially increasing revenue(and it works. Thats why companies do it.)

I bet somebody could spawn 5 scorpions in a single match....

Actually impossible sorry buddy. 5 Different people can summon a scorpion but not a SINGLE player. I watched a LOT of Warzone gameplay and so far 343i has done a pretty good job with the pacing and how often players are able to summon power vehicles. I plan on doing the math once we get our hands on Halo 5 to see if something like this would be possible on a theoritical level but based on the public Warzone footage people recorded at games conventions this doesnt seem possible at all. Remember you're acquiring items. All players must PLAY in order to get the energy to summon those items(Keyword: play not pay)

And since microtrans are creeping in, I'm sure there will be a way to pay for extra energy or levels in order to use gear before others.

Look at how MMO's are layed out.  Sure you can get that really cool legendary weapon by grinding and luck, but what happens when someone sinks down $50 for the limited time sale and you can't?  You get owned going into battle against said player and you are put at a disadvantage.

You said two very important things here I would like to address.

For the first one 343i has made it very clear that you will not be able to pay for energy levels or early access to the gear. You could argue "oh but for Halo 6!" but the answer will remain a solid no. Enough people are angry enough with the REQ system I don't think they would want to escalate the PR mess any further. Regardless of how you want to insult the intelligence levels of 343i they're still a group of talented developers even if you don't agree with their systems or decisions. Based on current evidence they are not dull enough to let something like "early access to gear" be part of the micro-transactions.

The second is a very good point and one that is something we need to look out for. Just because I love the idea of the REQ system doesn't mean it is going to be perfect. As a community we must remain vigilant and see if the REQ system will deliver the supposed balance 343i is telling us it will. The case very well could be someone spends X amount of money and earns Legendary Shotgun and uses it to wreck havoc. Until the game is released we cannot say for certain.

Also REQ system explained video if you haven't watched it already:

  3. My favorite part was a little tease of the Ground combat equivalent of Halo Fleet Battles(which I still want) and that makes me so happy to see 343i continuely expanding their board game presence. The best [art was the *maybe* inclusion of optional rules that allow you to play both games together. THAT IS FANTASTIC.

Seriously we need more Halo Fleet Battles discussion.

  4. Books, Books, Books, Books.

Seriously I love the Halo novels. I enjoy reading a huge deal and moreso I love just how detailed the books can get and what niche stuff they are able to cover that the games cannot for the sake of keeping pace. Some of the best HaloEU material has come from the books.

The Forerunner Saga is a great example of this where they delve into the fictional science of the Forerunners. Explaining Vacuum Energy, Universes like the "Glow" and how their society works. A Halo game cannot cover the juridical system of the Forerunners but books(or other Halo media) can.

I pick books over something like shows or comics because Halo books have a very good track record of being average or very well written. So far the live-action shows are sub-par at best(Nightfall was just a big what) and the comics do their job well but the pacing seems off(Escalation is good though sucks its going to end soon). The animated shows like Legends or Evolution are very well done and if anything 343i should focus on commissioning more of those. The same goes for audio dramas like HuntTheTruth which was just fantastic.(although I would love them to cover a more niche topic with an audio drama like the scientists studying the Forerunners)

Whats even better about the books is that they're extremely easy to summarize(you're making a text summary of a book. That is loads easier then summarizing a visual or audio driven medium)! If you just want the gist of whats going on head over to Halowiki or Halopedia, and if you cannot be bothered to read about it then theres no room to complain about being confused story wise when you play the games.

I'm very happy with the direction Halo 5 is taking in terms of Primer lore. We're getting a lot of backstory to the events that bleed into the story of Halo 5 and 343i has been very clear on what EU material you need to know if you want to fully appreciate Halo 5s story(although I'm sure you will understand it just fine if you don't care to read the wiki)

EDIT: Nice to see we're starting fresh with the poll. Keep them coming gents!

  5. With how story heavy Halo 5 is turning out to be I'm glad this is a thing and I am glad our moderators are willing to enforce this.

I take pity on the mods who accidentally read threads that contain spoilers while theyre trying to save the rest of us from them.

I'm aiming to beat Halo 5 the same night I get it so I'll do my best to report any threads to make sure nobody else has the game spoiled too early for them.

  6. It sounds like you don't support the purchase of Amiibos because of the price tag and the fact you spent a good deal of your dispoable income on them.

Amiibos are definitely starting to show their worth. I still have quite a few gripes such as the fact that each amiibo can only hold one saved game data(that means your Smash Bros amiibo can only hold the saved data for Smash Bros and if another game comes along that uses a similar functonailty you would have to buy another amiibo or delete the saved data from that). Although personally the functionality that the amiibos do provide is still great.

My favorite thing is the custom amiibos we have been seeing. I saw someone take their Luigi and turn it into a Waluigi and then create a Luigi themed Waluigi fighter in SS4. Things like that warrant a purchase from me.

Also those Yoshi Yarn amiibos are excellent.

  7. THE DEER GOD YAYYYYYY. I've always been interested in this game but just never bothered actually getting it.

Battlestations Pacific is also a FANTASTIC game. I actually bought Battlestations Midway not that long ago and now I get to play complete my collection :)

Crysis 3 and Tomb Raider are also fantastic games but I'm glad Microsoft is giving the lesser known titles the light. Now everyone can experience the joy that was Battlestations Pacific.

  8. halo has mainly been like quack

Halo has never really capitalised on ads (smart scoping) because when you get hit you descope.

Best typo ever mate that made me have a good laugh.

Halo 5 still has descoping though plus Smartscoping works more like aiming in like previous Halo games then it does like ADS in other major shooters. We played the beta so we know this.

Its a huge shame Halo 5 won't have split-screen. Sadly it won't be in the game there is no time to add it in properly without compromising the game performance. I'm sorry you won't be with us for the journey of Halo 5 but maybe if Halo 6 has split screen you might give it another shot.

  9. Of course.

I have a bias. I liked Halo 4 a lot and MCC was a massively impressive undertaking for a still relatively new studio.

My faith in 343i isnt just blind fanboyism though. They have proven time and time again they are capable of fixing their mistakes. Not only that but what we have seen and played of Halo 5 shows even in its current state its a much more polished product then their previous 2 releases.

Although I still want to see more of Forge, Theater, and Custom Games before I can confirm my love for Halo 5. I think it is a safe assumption to say that Halo 5 is going to be a much better game at release then Halo 4 and MCC.

  10. WHAT?!

    DESTINY?!

HOW ABOUT YOU DISCUSS LIKE I ASKED PUNK

The 1 thing that interests me is the increased attention in relation to story. If the story's good I'll get the game. I don't care if the gameplay is good or not. I'll probably quit playing after I'm done with the story, and wait for like 5 more expansions to come out before getting back into the game.

Honestly House Of Wolves did a better job addressing the story and from what we have seen TTK is also taking the same route. Once it is out we will let you know but they're revisiting some old lore from the Vanilla game too which is nice :)

This is a new thing I'm going to try. Just regular focused Destiny discussion. It isn't going to happen at any specific time just whenever theres nothing left to talk about or something else more interestingly

We're going to open things up and start broad. In the future we will go into more specific subjects like factions, important characters or events, the future of the games, etc.

What are you most excited for about The Taken King? Is it the change in game mechanics? New weapon manufacturers? New raid? Faction? Armor?

Or are you not even excited for TTK at all and think it won't do anything to change Destiny.

Keep things civil. If you're going to debate or challenge points please respect that others will disagree and thats ok.

  12. Voting Null means you want nobody to die. You didn't specify this in the rules otherwise so it would be unwise to turn back now.

Null had the majority vote. Which means we should keep the game going. Nobody dies and thats ok because that is what we voted for.

I rather the game keeps going then having to wait another 48 hours. I WANT PEOPLE TO DIE.
