Truth activating the ark

If Truth needed a human to activate the ark, why did the UNSC feel such urgency to stop him? It's almost as if they're just walking right into a trap. This is probably an easily answered question, I just thought of it a few minutes ago.

Truth already had Johnson with him. He used him to activate the Ark.

 

The UNSC was scrambling to stop him, and Chief/Arbiter managed to do just that. If they didn't stop him then the Galaxy would done make big boom.

Johnson: "What's the matter, big shot? Can't start your own party?"

Truth: "I admit, I need your help, But that secret dies with all the rest."

The UNSC didn't know that the Covenant could not start the Halo array, and that Humans were the only ones that were able to do so. It was a secret only the Higher up Covenant knew, and the laid the trap perfectly, separating Johnson and taking him to the Control room of the Ark.

 

Although, you would have thought Tartarus forcing Miranda to insert the index on Installation 05 would have given the UNSC a clue. Guess they didn't pick up on it.

Halo 3 is so confusing. Sentinel allies, flood foes, flood allies sentinel foes, too many changes.

 

Humans probably didn't knoe how to fire the Ark.

It is a massive hole in the plot.

 

Humans knew.

 

The most logical thing to assume is that Truth already had humans with him.

But they all died, most likely harsh beating by the Brutes.
