Assuming it was actually on the map you were playing. Say the pit for example. You could go mauler. But there were two shotguns as well as many other options that would most likely kill you before you would kill them. My problem with the boltshot is too much power for ease of access. If you were on a map with no mauler well then you had no option to have it and if you were the mauler god you had a problem. When I first started Halo 4 and had a magnum that was just an awful experience. Now that I have had my time The boltshot is not that bad but it could use a range nerf.

Well the mauler had weaknesses. The mauler was not present on every map and you actually had to go pick one up. I can start every map in Halo 4 with a boltshot. If you wanted to dual wield them then you had to actually go find another mauler. The mauler did not beat the shotgun in any way. A single mauler would never kill you in one shot either. The boltshot beats both shotguns and kills in one shot from a decent range. The boltshot however also has the pro of being a pistol with headshot capability and one shot potential depending on how you use it. That alone is amazing compared to the mauler having only close range properties. In Halo 4 I can start with this weapon that outranges both shotguns and has the option of just being a pistol. I couldnt start Halo 3 with a weapon that could one shot you. That alone already screams wtf to me.

Honestly the only reason I even use the boltshot is because i focus so much on close range combat. An AR in one hand and a mini shotgun in the other. Still I wish for thruster pack to get a buff because its not that great at gap closing over mobility. Yes I want the DMR toned down but it does not actually matter to me if it does get nerfed. The boltshot can use less range until it loses to the shotguns.

The AR like any other Automatic weapon is just a different way to apply death to enemies. I prefer it because of play style. I'm not looking for the best gun just the one I like. Still I feel I should be coming out of close range gunfights with a small advantage and not bleeding to death after facing a rifle. I personally do not like it when a close range weapon is matched or beaten at its one and only job.

I hate to say this but just because someone has been playing for a long time does not mean they will be as good as other players. If a player is not doing well that does not mean they are not trying to win, they just cannot beat their current opponents. Yes you get the occasional player that just betrays teammates or sits on a power weapon spawn but I personally do not see that often. Another issue is the fact that not everyone has headsets. You can't really formulate strategies with people who can not speak to you. You can only do what you can and hope for the best. We are all hear to have fun. Just stick to that and I doubt you will care much for how your teammates play the game

Well I finally found someone in a game using it. I assume he swapped to it because I kept killing him with it. After using it more I am still going to keep using it but it still has the same issues as before. I should not be leaving a fight about to die if I am in a close range battle with a DMR user.

I love using the storm rifle as a secondary with firepower. It allows me to put out continuous fire on any location. ASSIST MEDALS **!

I agree that it would make sense for it to be a little slower than the machine gun warthog due to its greater kill potential.

I like the storm rifle. I just ended up not using it because I was getting tired of being killed by DMRs all the time

I have not seen a single one other automatic weapon being used by anyone other than myself recently. Once you break away early ranks you never see it anymore. I always keep an assault rifle on hand and I have also used the storm rifle and suppressor. I like them all but they all fail when faced with the semi automatic rifles.

Let me just take a second to propose a toast to Halo 4. Best game of my year. Ok on to text barrier. I can't see where I would choose an automatic weapon anymore. They outright lose to the semi-automatic rifles in every situation. I would understand if I got killed from mid to long range because I am expected to, but you don't even win the close range engagements and if you do it's just barely. However, when you face anyone from mid to long range you get killed with them barely taking damage due to the guns natural lack of accuracy. I had high hopes for the assault rifles this time around because I heard from some people it was better. I have not seen this at all. If anything they are in a worse place then they ever have been. I shouldn't even say semi automatic rifles I may as well say the DMR because if it was the title of the game it would have made more sense to me. I like variety. The lack of seeing automatic weapons being used just saddens me because I honestly am trying to find a reason and they just fail at being useful for anything. It was hard to peel myself away from the norm of DMR or die and for the work you put out you get no benefit. If they at least did a ton of damage to make up for the lack of range that would be great. They don't even do that. It's horrible walking around with an automatic weapon knowing that you are giving yourself a massive disadvantage. I doubt that they would receive any sort of buff but they need one.
