Saints Row, last year's reboot of the cult-classic crime sandbox series, now has a content roadmap planned out after spending several months under the radar. Volition's reboot will be expanding with three major releases for Expansion Pass holders throughout the year, which will include two free new districts to explore, three more quality-of-life updates, and a Dead Island 2-inspired cosmetic pack for all players.

For the Dead Island 2 crossover, players will be able to dress up with items inspired by Jacob and Amy, two of the characters who appear in the upcoming zombie apocalypse game. A new weapon, emote, and decorations for the Saints headquarters will also be available in this free download, which will be available starting April 11.

Volition says that its biggest free update to date will launch in May, and will revamp the game with numerous quality-of-life changes that range from overhauled combat to a selfie mode, the new Sunshine Springs district, and more improvements. Expansion Pass holders will get three new story missions set in Sunshine Springs, and The Heist & The Hazardous--which involves the Saints looking for payback against an actor who double-crossed them.

Finally, August sees the release of a third expansion, which will add yet another district and more quality-of-life updates to the game for free. More details on this DLC will be revealed at a later date.

After the Saints Row reboot garnered a mixed reaction from fans, Volition was merged with Borderlands studio Gearbox in November 2022. Embracer Group, which owns both Volition and Gearbox, announced that the Saints Row developer would be integrated into Gearbox as part of a move to create "future success" at the studio.

"For as much as Saints Row differentiates itself from the bombast of its past few entries, it still closely resembles a game from the same era, leading to an experience that often feels stale and dated," Richard Wakeling wrote in GameSpot's Saints Row review.
