What is a trip mine?

A trip mine was a type of equipment in Halo 3. You throw it on the ground and when someone get's close to it, it explodes.

and its fun to watch from a distance i loved to ly them and watchem go off in halo 3 it was halarious the players always got so pissec at e because thed try to sneak on me when i had a few set up behind me
