Thanks for all the Destiny screenshots you have been bringing Halo 4 Didact this game impresses me at every corner but the question always remains is it current gen or previous gen ? My guess is that it is Current as you want the game to look as good as it can so it impresses people. :)

An innovative multiplayer

After extensive information of the next issue of GameInformer and the first multiplayer approach offered by Lars Bakken, it is the turn of Chris Butcher, technical director at Bungie, we talk about the technologies and processes that make the world of Destiny an innovative concept in multiplayer.

Indeed, the latter was created to do resemble nothing of what has been done previously and, if Destiny does not an MMO, the game nevertheless tends to bring together the players in a vast "shared universe". To achieve this, and this is where the real innovation, the players are not scattered on multiple servers but play in the same world.

Destiny_Multiplayer.jpg

It would seem therefore that the Bungie studio did not rely on a split infrastructure servers, usually used for MMOS, as we confirmed Butcher in an interview with GameInformer :

"You have the example of those offering large infrastructure of servers like World of Warcraft or equivalent. But we did not really want of such a model, because if you think about it seriously, you have a centralized server that simulates all the content in the world, but that just to welcome a certain number of players on a server. Perhaps, 1000, 5000, or even 20,000 players. But compared to the population of players on console is very little.

So what it means is that you have dozens, or even hundreds of these servers separated from each other. But we started from the principle that we wanted a unique world to accommodate everyone.

We are inspired by the infrastructure on which we have been working for years with Halo and adapted it to support a shared and seamlessly interconnected world that can welcome all players as well as the AI of the game. So when you move from one area to the other, you navigate through a mesh of networks allowing you to find the players currently in the area. There are specific servers for each zone and you join them continuously in a transparent manner. »

All this aims to ensure that everyone can play together in the same world online connected. When you move from one region to the other, you find players with that always play because there is always a huge population, without the risk of a server deserted during certain hours.

Destiny_Multiplayer2.jpg

"Game universe must be likely to welcome millions of players online at the same time."

Destiny architecture relies on a multitude of technologies created to avoid the overcrowding of an area. According to the developer, the game relies on mechanisms for matchmaking pushed to bring together the players according to their interests, their location or their quality of connection. Obviously, all players are not really together but it will be the impression given.

While most of the conversation focused on the cooperative elements of the game, there were also a few details on the competitive destiny aspect. In fact, we learn that Bungie has tried to make a matchmaking as just as possible, whether it's through the proposed classes, improvements as well as the awards received in game. For example, Butcher says that even if you fall against stronger players, there is always a motivation to finish a match. This could be in the form of awards or simply the recognition that you have held against better players.

On the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, developers have used all of the capabilities of the current-gen"for Destiny a game in which everyone will be right, and, in the best possible conditions! I do not know about you, but I really look forward to become a "legend" !

More new Destiny screenshots released by Bungie.

http://www.oxm.co.uk/69683/more-new-destiny-screenshots-released-by-bungie/

If there's one thing that's making that September wait for Bungie's next space-faring shooter epic that much harder - actually, scrub that, there's quite a lot of things - but especially the wealth of lovely looking screens coming out from the creators of the Halo series.

Ed already posted an initial batch a few days ago, but the regular Bungie Weekly Update on Friday unveiled a couple more additions for us all to coo over with their next-gen shininess and playful eye-teasing. Why must you torment us so, Bungie?

While we sit staring mournfully at a calendar awaiting that 9th September 2014 release date for both Xbox 360 and Xbox One, why don't you check out Ed's roundup of some juicy Destiny details?

Update: 2-5-2014

I found this while browsing through a website that I find Information about Destiny and also Halo 5, but this one is update Destiny.

Destiny could hit 10 million lifetime sales.

http://www.vg247.com/2014/02/05/destiny-could-hit-10-million-lifetime-sales/

Activision’s Call of Duty franchise “vulnerable” in shooter genre in first year of new console cycle, says analyst.

“We are very concerned that the first full year of a new console cycle is the most likely time for consumers to switch gaming brands, and with several new choices available, we think CoD is particularly vulnerable”

Bungie’s forthcoming sci-fi shooter Destiny could sell 10 million units during its lifetime, according to optimistic analysts at Cowen & Company.

Alongside new Blizzard title Hearthstone, the titles will help publisher Activision make up for declines in the Call of Duty series, which is starting to see serious signs of fatigue at retail.

“Unit sales of Activision’s market-leading shooter were down 26 percent year-on-year in Q4:13,” wrote the company in an investors note. “The game was poorly reviewed, which we believe was a culprit in the disappointing performance (which was almost certainly below management’s expectations).”

“Heading into 2014, the franchise is likely to face competition from four to six other shooter genre titles, including heavyweight next-gen IPs Titanfall (EA) and the company’s own Destiny.

“We are very concerned that the first full year of a new console cycle is the most likely time for consumers to switch gaming ‘brands’, and with several new choices available, we think CoD is particularly vulnerable. We are reducing our FY14 title estimate to 16 million units lifetime, down from peak levels of ~25 million units in 2010-12.”

Activision will announce its financial results tomorrow (Thursday) and is expected to just squeak past expectations from the market. Cowen & Company are looking towards 2014 new console cycle and the free-to-play mobile business for uplifts in the publishers performance.

“We believe Activision’s collaboration with Bungie, Destiny, is probably the most anticipated title of the year among the gaming community.

“We expect the game to sell very well, and are modeling 10 million units in lifetime sales, with potentially significant upside. However, in some ways we are even more enthusiastic about Blizzard’s free-to-play card game Hearthstone, for four reasons: expectations are relatively low; it is based on the wildly successful Warcraft IP; it will be available on mobile devices later this year; and finally, we have played it and think it is uniquely great.”

I would have to say wow that is a lot of sells if they reach 10 million or even more.

Destiny
Destiny's Most Wanted Features in Character Customization
http://www.thegameheadz.com/Default.aspx?TabId=698&vw=1&itemid=2373&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Your destiny awaits—but you must first await Destiny, Bungie’s much-anticipated FPS. This game is the center of several conversations, including character customization. Which customization features do fans desire most?

Based on Bungie forums, I think fans have four major items on their wishlist. Let’s explore this list from least-desired to most-desired item:

Wish #4: A phone app that allows you to customize, equip, and level up characters. This would be great for gamers because they can customize on-the-go. When you’re waiting on that long check-out line at the store, for example, you could have fun preparing your guardian for gameplay. And as an added bonus, you’ll have more time for gameplay when you get home, too.

Wish #3: Character customization that is not based solely on looks.Yes, it’s fun to play with facial features and armor, but fans want to customize with depth. Function is important—how will armor and vehicles affect gameplay? Based on Bungie’s mission for this game to transform the FPS genre, I think this wish will be granted.

Wish #2: More than one playable character. If Destiny is destined to reach classic status like Halo or Call of Duty, then the game needs to hold gamers’ interest for more than a few months. One way to do this is by allowing gamers to switch between characters with different strengths. They could switch between titan or hunter and try these classes without having to start an entirely new game. In addition, gamers would ultimately have a more versatile gameplay experience with more than one character.

Wish #1: The chance to customize characters pre-launch. If Bungie grants this wish, a community of guardians could already be formed come launch day. Fans could take their time customizing the best guardian ever, and when launch day comes they can dive right into the game. Pre-launch customization would also allow gamers to share their creativity with the world—fans have discussed posting their guardian pics on a thread. And all of this would equal free advertisement for Bungie: If customization is this popular, then the game should be fun for sure!

Ironically, the #1 character customization wish has left Destiny fans divided. A large number of fans feel that early customization will subtract from launch day excitement. They say that it might even become boring after a while. I understand this point, but I think early customization can only build anticipation.  The more gamers experiment with their character, the more eager they will be to use that character come launch day. And if Bungie is concerned about holding gamer interest, then they can simply launch this feature one week prior to launch day.

Each of these wishes would have a positive effect on gameplay. A phone app would give gamers more time to play; deep customization and more than one playable character equals more versatile gameplay; and finally, pre-launch character customization would build anticipation among fans, attract new fans, and give gamers more gameplay time on launch day. Will Bungie grant these wishes? I don’t know, but they’re listening—so keep talking.

Activision Didn’t Say that Destiny Will Be the “Best-Selling Game in History” but the “Best-Selling New IP”.

http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/02/06/activision-bungies-destiny-to-be-the-best-selling-new-ip-in-history/

During the earnings call for investors and analysts held by Activision Blizzard today, the company’s CEO Bobby Kotick made a statement about the upcoming shooter by Bungie Destiny, but it was misquoted by several outlets, mentioning that he boldly said that he expects it to be the “best-selling game in history”:

The actual quote was still bold, but not that bold:

[...]Destiny, our new game from Bungie, which has the potential to be our next billion dollars franchise.

Destiny delivers a groundbreaking new universe and capitalizes on advanced connectivity to create a shared world action experience we expect that Destiny will become the best-selling new video game IP in history when it launches across Xbox and PlayStation consoles on September 9.

In addition to this, the presentation also mentioned that the game is “Tracking to record pre-orderds for a new IP.”

The game will hit the shelves on Septmber 9th, so we’ll have to wait until then to see if Kotick will be proven right. Considering how interesting Destiny looks, it wouldn’t be surprising.

Destiny Xbox One and Xbox 360 beta delayed to summer 2014

http://www.totalxbox.com/70831/destiny-xbox-one-and-xbox-360-beta-delayed-to-summer-2014/

In just a handful of months, my fellow star-gazers, we'll be blowing holes in all manner of exotic extra-terrestrial fauna. Destiny's highly anticipated public beta will take place this summer, Activision has announced, narrowly ahead of the game's 9th September release date for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Not quite "early 2014", then. Ah well, a few more weeks won't kill you.

"We believe the game is on track to deliver record pre-orders for our new franchise," observed Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg in an earnings call last night. "A public beta is planned for summer. We expect to launch the game on September 9 on PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360. We look forward to expanding this universe for years to come and you will see much more in the months ahead."

The Destiny beta will be "massive", according to Bungie - the developer is treating it like a "full product launch". "We can't just carve out three competitive multiplayer maps this time around," community manager Eric Osborne reflected last year. "We'd only be gathering data on one facet of the overall experience - one that is arguably the least resource intensive and most well understood by our team. Destiny demands more."

To access the beta, you'll need to preorder it from a participating retailer - Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop or Walmart. Type the access code you're sent with your receipt (digital or otherwise) into Bungie's registration page.

Are Bungie Destined for Great Things Post-Halo?Following a hugely successful series with a brand new IP is tough to do at the best of times, but when that series was Halo, and it’s the only thing you’d actually worked on since 2001, the pressure is ramped up ten-fold. Bungie finds itself in that rather unique situation right now ahead of the launch of Destiny later this year, having separated from Microsoft to focus on multiplatform development as part of a ten-year deal with publisher Activision. In following Halo with Destiny, there are obviously going to be comparisons drawn between the two games – and it would be fair to say that there are some similarities to be seen on first glance. Destiny’s artwork and design elements are certainly reminiscent of the worlds built for the Halo franchise, which is to be expected given that Bungie crafted that universe themselves, and are using the same core team of designers here. But beyond that, Destiny is most definitely its own beast. An online shooter meets action RPG; Destiny takes place in a persistent world where players are fighting for the survival of mankind. The arrival of a mysterious extraterrestrial object, known as The Traveler, gifted mankind the ability of travel throughout the solar system, enabling humanity to spread its wings and colonize worlds beyond our own. When an event referenced s “The Collapse” brought an end to these space-faring days, and the end of those off-world colonies, our race was left fighting for its very survival back on Earth. With hostile alien beings gradually making their way towards the last bastion of humanity, The City, The Traveler empowers a select band of warriors, known as Guardians of the City, to give mankind a fighting chance in its battle against enforced extinction. And that’s where the player comes in. As a Guardian of the City, you’ll be taking on these extra terrestrial forces and attempting to claim Earth for her own once more. Not all non-humans in Destiny are hostile, though, as human Guardians are aided by those from two other races, the Awoken and the Exo. The Awoken, although humanoid, are described as being exotic and mysterious by Bungie, with a ghostlike, supernatural appearance, while the Exo are humanoid machines from the time before The Collapse that have been rebooted with the loss of their original purpose. Throughout Destiny’s universe players will encounter the familiar merged with the exotic. At home, on earth, The Traveller is always there, floating above the stratosphere, looking down upon humanity, while when you venture off planet, you’ll encounter human settlements in very alien landscapes. It’s this juxtaposition between the familiar and the strange that makes Destiny’s aesthetics so striking, particularly when running in super-sexy mode on next-gen systems. Although living in a persistent world, Bungie has been reticent to call Destiny an MMO, but not because of the potential for perceived stigma among some regarding that genre, but because calling it an MMO would undoubtedly suggest features and ideas that simply aren’t present in a game that’s, at its core, a shooter oriented RPG, much like Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, albeit with the participation of other people. Which, when you think about it, is probably one of the most exciting things that you could say about a forthcoming title isn’t it? Destiny launches on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 on September 9th.

New vehicle unveiled: the Shrike

http://www.microsofttranslator.com/bv.aspx?from=&to=en&a=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.halodestiny.net%2Fnews-2707-nouveau-vehicule-devoile-le-shrike.html%23skip

'If you are a Knight of the last city, this is your Steed!'

Tom Doyle, Art Lead

Concept: Isaac Hannaford
3D model: Travis Brady

You know under the code name Sparrow, but his true identity is other than the Shrike! The latter is the first known vehicle outside the spaceship, specific to each guardian and usable on different lands that you piétinerez in Destiny. In french? This gives the loggerhead.

Travel from point A to point B should be something fun Destiny, and this will be through your Shrike. In the company of your friends, this personal vehicle will give you feel like part of a biker gang (leather jacket is not provided). You will be very useful to explore the vast expanses of Venus, Mars, the Moon or even our beautiful land that was desolate.

In imagining this vehicle, Isaac Hannaford wanted to give players a means of transport that would be unique and specific to each. You will have the opportunity to use it whenever you like invoking it at any time.

If this vehicle is not offensive, you will be a great remedy when you need to accelerate, putting at your disposal a boost which proves to be amazingly efficient!

The interesting thing is that the Shrike will be customizable according to several patterns of colors, these patterns being specific to each class of the game, Titan, Hunter and Warlock, therefore releasing specific items... Thus, even if you have the same options, the appearance of your vehicle will be unique depending on the character that you have decided to embody, allowing you to add a new piece of collection to your legend.
