  1. Finally I have had enough spare time to commit to making a smashup. So with that out the way lets begin. smile.png

Article one: The PlayStation Four total sales pass over the 30 million mark worldwide

    ps4.png

If you don't know the PS4 is selling well, very well and is currently outpacing the PS2. So that's why it should be little surprise that the PS4 recently crossed over the mark of 30 million units sold around the world. Its been little over two years since the consoles release and its continuing to demonstrate the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history.

Are you surprised by this news?

Article two: Dying Light season pass and expansion price goes up

    dying-light-trophies-guide-640x325.jpg

Developer Techland announced that the upcoming expansion for Dying Light and its season pass price's will be going up on December 8th. The season pass was previously being sold for $20 but now Techland has been buffed the price up to $30. Not only that but zombie game's upcoming expansion, The Following, has also seen a price increase. From $15 to $20. The reason for this sudden increase in price is because the new expansion's scale has been increased to be much larger than originally planned.

"Over the past weeks, Dying Light: The Following has almost reached its final stage: main quests, side quests, new skills, and driving challenges are ready," Techland has said. "We now are moving into the polishing period. Looking at it, it's clear how big the expansion pack has grown, it could be a standalone title, but since it would mean a launch delay, we decided against it. However, due to the increased scale of the project, we needed to revise the pricing that we announced back in August, and so we want to let you know that Dying Light: The Following will be priced at $20."

What do you think of this increase in price? Is it justified?

Article three: The Xbox 360 is now ten years old

    xbox360.jpg?1316097758

This is less of an article and more of a retrospective because the Xbox 360 recently turned ten years old and its honestly hard to believe its been ten years. I grew up with the Playstation 2 and played it quite a bit. Or at least to the extent where I began to get interested in the new generation of consoles. It ultimately came down to a choice between the Ps3 or the Xbox 360. I was leaning towards the Ps3 but that all changed when my friend brought his 360 to my house one day. In it was Halo 3 and that was the game that convinced me to buy an Xbox 360, just for that game because I enjoyed it so much.

I still remember going down my local games store and buying my 360. This was back when the console was still white so I think you know what happened next. The red ring of death came but luckily I was not deterred and managed to get enough money together to buy newly released Xbox elite that I still own to this day. The 360 is really a great console. So many things we take for granted today come from the 360.

Achievements, Indie developers, integrated online play, among many things. Its been ten good years for this console and even though I rarely touch my 360 I still have many fond memories using it. After all it was the system that really got me into gaming so I guess I owe it a great deal.

Thanks for reading this weeks smashup everyone, until next time!

  2. OMG JXZAW, the very reason the world knows Halo is cause of Halo 1-3, combat evolved is the first FPS to capture the immagination of all who know and respect gaming. When you compare FPS and see games like Nova and Destiny etc, the very first thing that pops into your mind is Halo.

The reason why you can't understand the difference in the story line is because your a game leach, you just play whatevers out there without rhyme or reason, thats the problem with society we love to take it all and leave nothing, our depth of thought is becoming shalow because whe're to spread out.

But to be fair I was taken towards the end of Halo 4 when Cortana used the remainder of her coding to save Master Cheif, once again reminants of the build between the two in Halo 1 & 3, I guess you would like it.

Halo Reach, yet another example of humanities fragile nature and its ability to be wiped out at anytime, is it so hard 343 industries to catch that, why must you persist with the cosiness of keeping everyone alive?

    Here's some food for thought.

How about you stop making assumptions about me based off a single post?

"The reason why you can't understand the difference in the story line is because your a game leach, you just play whatevers out there without rhyme or reason, thats the problem with society we love to take it all and leave nothing, our depth of thought is becoming shalow because whe're to spread out."

That hardly makes sense at all. You are saying I cannot see a difference, but I already pointed out how I saw Halo 4's story as better than anything Bungie has ever done in my previous post. :)

  3. Didn't Mark IV lack an energy shield entirely?

What I really want is Chief's campaign armor. It looks so much better than the Mark VI we've been getting.

That is correct, it did not have shields.

At a guess this helmet is based off the original Mark IV's but has obviously been updated and is an entirely new helmet. So that's why it can have energy shields, that is one explanation.

    Another is because its simulation.

A third is that 343 just dosent care.

Whatever the reason the helmet looks pretty cool. But why a military would put so much effort into cosmetics is beyond me.... :)

  4. Actually, I'm pretty sure the request here is that we actually get to play the fight, which is completely different from making it a QTE. This section had the potential to be a really fun boss, or at least something engaging, but instead all we get is a cutscene. Definitely a wasted opportunity and a very disappointing way to deal with an antagonist, no matter how minor he is.

Care to elaborate on your second point rather than just dismissing it?

Imagine playing as Locke fighting Chief in a boss battle or something?

It just an idea I'm throwing around but if the request was to play stuff out I'd say this is a brilliant idea to go with it. :)

  5. Thanks for your insight to the obvious my friend why do you think I mentioned microsoft? Unlike you I don't get my info from the microsoft supported blind followers campaign. Bungie as a Game developer grew through its creation of Halo, however there where certain issues that both microsoft and bungie couldn't work out such as the direction of the games maybe that I'm not sure of, Halo was always microsofts by license and copyright! however the true creaters will always be bungie.

Oh yeah and about your last remark on playing Destiny friend your right on that one and I suggest you  play  along with the orginal Halo 1-3 series it beats the cheap story line in Halo 4 and 5 any day no offence to Master Chief.

    Blind followers campaign? What's that.....

By the way can I point out that Halo 1-3 is the one with the cheap terrible script not Halo 5 and 4. Granted Halo 5's story kinda sucks but at least Halo 4 was good and well written for that matter. :)

  6. Because that's what Humans do its almost something of a natural instinct to prefer something. But when someone tells you they dislike what you prefer or prefer something else Humans are quick to defend their decision.

Its natural for most Humans to do this and there is nothing wrong with it. :)

Plus we should not have to accept that they screwed up in some areas. 343 are not some steam greenlight developer just out of college oh no. Some of the people in 343 for example its creative director have been in the industry for over 10 years. All of them have experience with games and probably a lot of experience at that.

A lot of developers can make great games their first time around but I can accept a bit of screwing up the first time but the second time, not so much.......

  7. Welcome one and all to the semi weekly site poll 16. I cannot believe its been sixteen weeks already since I started doing this. After all they do say time fly's when your having fun.

    halo-5-guardians-req.jpeg

A topic of much debate in the Halo community is Requisition packs. Otherwise shortened down frequently to REQ packs. Obviously if you've played Halo 5 you know what these things are and can do. From spawning Scorpion tanks provided you have the energy for a one time only use. To unlocking a permanent new skin for the Battle Rifle. However REQ packs do change how you unlock new items compared to prior Halo games making everything more based on chance. Not only that but you can also spend real world money if you so choose on REQ packs.

All this may or may not seem like a bad thing but there is most certainly upsides. The biggest of which being that instead of paying for maps packs. New maps will be delivered for free and so to not fragment the community. So my question to you all this week is....

Would you prefer to pay for Map Packs and have the requisition system removed in favour of an unlock system more like prior Halo games or keep things as they are? (Or something else entirely?)

    Let me know!

As per usual: Voting ends on November 30th, If you have any suggestions or criticism, feel free to pm me.

And as always, happy voting, JXZAW out. :)

  8. Like last week I have a lot going on right now and not enough time to do a smashup but hopefully next week I can deliver a full smashup.

With that out the way lets begin.

Article one: PS2 emulation coming to the Ps4!

    PS2.jpg

At E3 this year Microsoft dropped the bomb that backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 games will be coming to the Xbox One. Giving the Xbox One a huge advantage over the PS4 in that area. So it would be a good guess to assume that something similar would be coming to the PS4 in time, and recently that has been proven true.

An unnamed Sony representative confirmed that a PS2 emulator is coming to the PS4 in an email with Wired. “We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation” The Sony representative stated. “We have nothing further to comment at this point in time"

However for some people this has already happened. A bundle available now at retail includes a PS4 console and Star Wars: Battlefront. But also includes a selection of bonus classic games. Such as, Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. In addition to various visual improvements and remapped controls there is also Trophy support.

But these three classic games are not simply ports of old code but are actually running on proprietary emulation software according to Digital Foundry. (So Sony decided to emulate games and not tell publically announce it?) So it looks like emulation for other games is not very far behind. Yet there are still lingering questions. Will emulation just be limited to bonus features? Will you have to buy the games from the PlayStation digital store? Or will you also be able to insert a PlayStation 2 disc into your PS4 to play it? Only time will tell I suppose.

Thanks for reading this latest article! smile.png

  9. Six maps is far too much. Reach started this horrible trend and now its carried on.

I want to see all maps be in the game engine and largely be original.

But we are not seeing that. For example all these BTB are not only forged but are remakes.

Its just makes 343 look really lazy, hell, they probably put more effort into REQ packs than actually testing some of these maps.

How were the horrible exploits and spawn issues on Orion missed? :)

  10. I don't know about any of you but I'm getting really tired of the constant Forge maps coming out.

Seriosly so many of the Halo 5 base game maps are just Forge maps.

It really makes 343 look lazy, not that it helps that most maps are just bits of other maps put together.

For Halo 5 I would have liked to have seen mostly original maps with all maps being made in engine without Forge. :)

  11. Coming back for its fifteenth week is none other than the semi weekly site poll, so welcome back I guess!

    hqdefault.jpg

Halo 5 features two distinct types of enemy factions. The Covenant and the Prometheans and unlike Halo 4 they both hate each other so you will never see them fighting side by side. Both enemy factions fight with different units and use both different tactics and equipment. So my question to you all this week is....

What is your preferred faction to fight in Halo 5 and why?

As per usual: Voting ends on November 23th, If you have any suggestions or criticism, feel free to pm me.

And as always, happy voting, JXZAW out. :)

  12. Alright everyone its been a week so lets tally the results up and find the winner in all this. :)

    *drumroll*

    And the winner is....

No.Out of everyone who voted it was universal that overall nobody was satisfied with the length of the campaign.

As always thanks everyone for voting and until next time!

  13. (I'm really busy this week so this is going to be a single article, on that note, lets begin)

Welcome one and all to this weeks article!

Article one: Why Red Dead Redemption isn't playable on the Xbox One, yet.

     reddead_kotakuhorse.jpg

As you all should know unless you've been living under a rock, Microsoft announced backwards compatibility for the Xbox one. However Red Dead Redemption the second leading game on the Xbox's One's poll for what games players would like to see on the Xbox One, is not on the list for the first batch of compatible games.

See the full list for the first batch of compatible games here: http://343i.org/38k

But why has it not been added? Well read this article and find out!
(Its something to do with the licensing agreements)

"After the technological breakthrough that got backwards compatibility working, the next step was to figure out how to license all this content, originally released on Xbox 360, for Xbox One," Microsoft engineer Richard Irving told Eurogamer. As you can imagine, publishers have cut very specific deals on some of that content. For example Madden you can imagine how many licenses go into a game with the players, the NFL, sponsors, and so on. And there's over 1000 games at this point on Xbox 360."

Irving said it "didn't seem fair" to ask publishers to go out and obtain licenses for these games without knowing if there would be demand for them. So to that end, Microsoft opened a voting portal on its Xbox Feedback website where fans could demonstrate their interest in any games that ever came out on the Xbox 360. Armed with that information, Microsoft then reached out to publishers about specific games and said "Please let us know if this is something you can do" Irving said about obtaining the required licenses.

He then added that, ultimately, it's publishers who decide if they want to approve their Xbox 360 titles to be playable on Xbox One. This obviously takes times, which is why Microsoft was not able to deliver all of the top 50-100 most requested games.

On the subject of Red Dead Redemption specifically, Irving said, "We're definitely engaged with all of our publisher and developer partners including Rockstar (The developers of Red Dead Redemption) on when and how we can deliver on that fan feedback."

Previously Microsoft said they would be supporting hundreds of backwards compatible games on the Xbox One so it looks like all hope is not yet lost and Red Dead Redemption could be coming in the future!

    Thanks for reading everyone! :)

  14. Alright, I’ve tried writing this so many times and it just has not worked and heck, my Mom month is running out fast so lets get this done. Welcome one and all to my Mom post!

So the first question to get out the way is why has this Mom post been so late? It’s because of so many factors. Fallout 4, myself being very busy and me not really knowing what to put here. This is usually the part where I would put a bunch of member’s names here and talk about why I like them or something like that but I’m not doing that. Because to be honest I like every member here and even if I didn’t it just feels bad to write members names up and tell everyone those I like and those I don’t. So I’m skipping the usual meat and going straight for the bones if you catch my meaning. Because originally I was going to do a lot more but I think the best thing I could do it try to get my message across so that's what I'm going to do.

Mom wish time! What I want is something interesting. Its not a Caboose emote, or something else I can use to make fun of Jack or anything smart like that. I honestly just want this place to be active because right now it’s nothing short of a ghostown. Seriously at this point it’s really hard to motivate myself to spend two hours making news articles for hardly anyone to like or post on them. Or the semi weekly site poll or even log on here at all I have not even had anything close to a full out conversation in the shoutbox in weeks, most stuff is brief, and the only new topic thing apart from whatever gets pushed out by the news team is pure Halo 5 hate. (Granted some members do occasionally make new topics so keep doing that!) So all of this made me realise how dead this place has really become.

So what I want you guys to try and do is to be a little more active. Post more, get in the shoutbox just a little more. Make new topics and like whatever you consider to be a quality post. Be it a news article, event sign up, a quality or funny post or perhaps one of RedStarRockets "novels" Try and liven this place up a bit! I was thinking of writing a wisecrack but I really think this is the most serious I’ve ever been on this site. Because if you have not noticed, I really like this place. I don’t even have an Xb1 and may not ever get one at this rate yet I stay here just the interaction. So it’s saddening to see this place become a ghostown. Many members may never even see this, but as long as one person does, then mission accomplished.

Thanks for reading everyone, and to Jack, be prepared to eat your own words. :) http://cdn.343i.org/forum/fileshare/gallery/album_639/gallery_32076_639_12906.png

    Master Caboose out!

  15. I thought it would be kind of a special Ghost role with some minor power the regular Ghosts don't have. The role was supposed to be created after someone is killed or affected by a Pepper, but then that would make everyone want to hoard the Peppers, and diminish their lethality.

The entire reason for having Peppers is to get rid of AFK people, and make sure people who don't have roles have access to something that could empower them, or make them feel as though their role means something. Which would entice them to be active in the game.

Have seen the idea now I think its good it was left out. :)
