The spartan is holding the pistol with his LEFT hand. Master Chief is Right Handed. Just an observation and it could be just a fluke... or maybe there will be multiple campaign spartans in Halo 4! No, I do not think you will be able to play as an alternate Spartan, but possibilities of playing along side another one, like Linda, are very possible. Good eye, by the way, never noticed that.
