Ashes of Mombassa-RP thread

"Roger out. You heard 'im," the Sergeant announced, waving a directing hand to his squad. In seconds, the seven of them detatched from their platoon, boots trudging against the concrete. They rounded the corner, and a as relayed by command, there was a Pelican waiting. Their footfalls clanked up the ramp, one by one, followed by a click and snap as each one of them strapped into their seats.

"Set," Aaron announced, Wyk, Redding, Grey and Liggy following suit.

Then came Malachi, "Arrh."

And finally the Sergeant. "Good to go. We're ready to go, chief. Bring us up."

Warrant Officer Da Silva, a rather petitely sized woman, body shrouded entirely by a flight suit, gave a nod from around her pilot seat. Without warning, the Pelican lifted up off of the asphalt, ramp whining to a close. "Super Six-Four-One in transit to Objective: 'Ironclad.'"

"'Ironclad?'" Liggy repeated.

Juarez gave him a half-glance. "We're going after an arms production plant essentially. Our goal is clearing the streets leading to it--that collossal hulk of guns down there we saw is going to be doing the main damage. We just gotta make sure it gets there."

"Oorah, baby," Aaron said with some zeal.

Alison woke up in her drop-pod that ended up ontop of a building, it was a rough landing but slow enough the roof held together. she got out of her pod and took a look around with her sniper. she saw a lot of carnage, and what looked like a giant mantis. she got on the coms: "anyone need some assistance?" she asked.

Kyro plowed through a small horde of screetching grunts, the blood from their combined carnage splattering his windshield. Opening up a com to local units, he stated, "Not much resistance, a few small squads, no armor...yet... Anyone have eyes on that scarab still?" He didn't like the idea of something that big not being somewhere he could keep an eye on it. He glanced back over his shoulder. The small collection of weapons he had loaded were still there, and the turret swiveled by itself with no gunner to direct it. Kyro considered for a second why he had not stopped to pick up a gunner but decided that, for his current situation, not having one was keeping him from drawing too much attention. He looked up and saw several drop pods decending towards the city. "All hell is about to break loose...."

"Ah, ODST! Good to see you, we always love reinforcements here! We noticed your pod hit the 'Scraper. That things going down any minute, we have a pelican, to pick you up. Stay on the roof. After your ride arrives, we have one simple task right now. Clear the streets on the waterfront between the munitions depot and command base, once we have a reasonably clear avenue, we will begin to do strikes on Covenant held portions of the city. Anyone else listening, you have your orders."

As the pelican dusted off, jacob had to mute the radio for a few seconds to stop the sound displaying everywhere. "Hey, we have quite a lot of gear here, so anything you need, we probably have it. We have some boxes of jetpacks, I'm sure those will come in handy on those roofs. Eagle squadron, how are things looking from the air, we need some recon right now." He added, hoping there would be Covenant for the soldiers to kill. Nothing fueled vengeance like the destruction of their homeworld, he thought as he began inspecting rows upon rows of weapons crates. Snipers, Shotguns, Battle Rifles, DMR's, Assault Rifles, Pistols, SMG's. Everything was here, then a certain box caught his eye. EXTREMEMLY FLAMMABLE, USE WITH CAUTION was imprinted on the metal crate in large, bold lettering. I guess it's time I deserved a little treat, who doesn't like to splurge a little? He thought as he lifted the heavy weapon from underneath its foam packaging. "Oh, baby." he mumbled under his breath as he inspected the weapon in his hands...

Jacob emerged from the warehouse, carrying the flamethrower in both hands. "Trust me, we haven't touched this stuff. The computers show this crap was being loaded into the Clad, for a warship! We haven't, and probably won't make a dent in it for a while, take your pick. There's plenty for everyone! WE have plenty of ammo for your AM Rifle too, everyone has free access, just through this door behind me. When you are ready to leave, just let me know, tell us where you are headed, okay? I need to know where to look if you get lost."

Alison took a look around in there and found the jetpacks. she took one and kept looking, finding special AM rounds and a few grenades. she walked over to jacob and asked "wheres the main base from here? ill start working my way tgere and killing any covies in my way"

"The main base is directly along the waterfront- stay paralell to the water line and you can't miss it- we have a mantis, Cobra and Scorpion rampaging the streets so it shouldn't be hard to miss. We also have a higher concentration of aliens there, so have fun out there. That jetpack should help you get a vantage point. I would advise-" he was cut off, as the screeching of metal and concrete, and the shattering of glass sounded throughout the area. Looking around, the skyscraper the trooper had landed in had finally given in, and the top floors were collapsing in on the floors below, one by one until a stray Wraith blast interupted the process, sending debris and smoke everywhere. "Well, visibility may be a little limited, but I'm sure you can handle it. There are plenty of Jackals around, so it shouldn't be haard to get a Beam or Focus rifle in the... unlikely event you run out of ammo" he said, noticing numerous clips and bullets strapped to her armour." You should get going. Once the dust clears, the snipers will pick you off easily."

"thanks for the advice" she said. she started heading toward the main base, while looking for covies. she took out a small squad of elite minors and continued. she jetpacked up to the roof of a smaller building. she took a few jackals and grunts down with ease. she got about halfway, seeing the same vehicle she had seen before, a giant mantis-like mech. she noticed a few people around it seeming to guard it, or use it as cover. "jacob, you mentioned a mantis, but is there a giant mech?" she asked

"Oh, that? Some kind of prototype mech or something. I wouldn't know, but I've heard it nicknamed 'Gryffin' a couple times, thats probably what you are reffering to. That is attracting the big guns in the area, your choice if you want to stay near it."

The light at an intersection suddenly blinked on showing red. Kyro stopped the hog out of instinct but then chuckled to himself, "Idiot, the whole city has been blown to pieces, and you're worrying about running a red." He just started to press the peddle down when three wraiths blasted through the intersection headed towards the blaring sound of a chaingun in the distance. Kyro keyed up his mic, "Ivan, you got a small swarm of armor headed your way, and they are hustling. They'll be there in a matter of minutes."

The Captain then realised the ODST had been trailing him. "Pretty much what I've already said. Clearing the outskirts if the city for a full foothold on the area for a major assault. Take anything you need, we have plenty of it."

Keying the radio, he replied to Alison's question, "Do whatever you need. If try and look for the bigger firefights, Marine, Civvy and Police getting caught and try to help them. The roads to the north are pretty heavy right now, that would be your best bet."

"ok, ill stick with the machine." she said. she went from roof to roof for the next few buildings following it. she was curious as to who was driving the gun-mech, but knew that wasnt important right now. she continued following it.

The skies had been entirely clear for Scott for the past hour.

"This is Eagle 2-4... Skies are clear. How are things on the ground?"

Scott banked his fighter and circled around the Financial District. He looked up at the carrier.

"The only reason they'd call off their attack is if they were about to run for it..." He thought.

"Be advised," He said into his radio. "I think the Carrier might be prepping to turn and burn. Just something to watch out for."

Kyro keyed up his mic, "Confirming previous report, ground troops are also starting to retreat as well. Things are starting to look a bit ugly here. If that ship jumps who knows what kind of damage it could cause." He kept driving further towards the objective but was now warily observing the Covenant ship on top of scanning the immediate area for the scarab which had not been confirmed as dead or seen. As he drove through another intersection, he heard a sudden crashing sound and was thrown against the side support of the hog. It felt like he was flying, and the windshield had shattered into pieces in front of him. He watched as the world turned around him in slow motion, just before a loud crunching sound and another jolt brought him back to reality. The hog had been impacted and thrown by something. The idea of what could have possible done so scared the hell out of him as he scrambled to get out from under the upside down hog. As he crawled from underneath, a large purple, metal object pierced down through the center of the hog. On his back, Kyro pushed himself away from the hog with his feet, and, looking up, saw a scarab standing several stories over his head. Screaming several explatives over the sound of the crashing fragments of crushed building pieces, Kyro noticed he had left his mic on through the whole event. He turned his mic off scrambled for one of the weapons which had been thrown from the vehicle and dove into a building which looked still somewhat stable. The scarab thundered down the road with no apparent direction, tossing the crushed and mangled hog against a building across from the one Kyro had ducked into. Looking out the windows of the building, Kyro noticed a large group of Jackals raiding vehicles and some smaller buildings on their way down the road behind the scarab. Kyro crouched behind a desk and cursed, resting the barrel of the .50 he had grabbed against his helmet. "It's gonna be one of those days..."

Murphy had certainly taken his time in choosing his gear. But "better to be then to be jackal bait" as they say.

He looked around for a pelican ready for deployment. There were many coming and going. It looked like he had missed the part and was only there for the cleaning.

Boarding the pelican, he was only asked "Where to?"

"Wherever you're going."

As he lifted off, he caught an amazing view of New Mombasa. Fires, bullets, plasma. An aerial battle for supremacy between UNSC and Covenant fighters.

The massive carrier sitting there, silent and ominous.

"Actually, scratch that. Deploy me in the inner city, fast rope descent."

A few minutes into their operation, the Squad still hadn't fired a shot. Their pilot, Warrant Officer Da Silva, was taking care of that part. It wasn't long, however, before the rooftop of the complex was clear of Covenant overwatch--Jackal snipers, Unggoy heavy weapons specialists and such. They could almost hear the QRF incoming from the lower levels of the complex: Elites barking orders, Grunts with their childish warcries, and the thuds of tens of footfalls.

Juarez punched the door to the pilot's seat. "We need to get down there, now!"

"Acknowledged. Hold tight." Without much more warning, the Pelican dipped violently, plummeting towards the rooftop despite their already-dangerously low flyover, but just as quickly nosed up and swung around in a sharp 180 degree turn. "Go, go, go."

The Marines all piled out at once, and with some record time, set up a perimeter to repell responding Covenant at their source, which in this case, being so far back in the frontline, meant they had to cover the stairwell entrance and possibly the freight elevator. The latter took up most of their manpower, earning the attention of Liggy, Grey, Wyk and Juarez. The stairwell, on the other hand, fell to the rifleman, Malachi, Aaron with his SAW, and--despite her skills in medicine--Redding, who excelled with an M7 SMG.

The Private pulled his shemagh up over his face, pulling back on the knot a little harder to ensure it didn't slip off in combat. "I hope to God they're not planning on using these stairs after this fight. We'll be slipping all over the blood."

"Good to know, you're not a psycho or anything," Sarah muttered.

"It's not psychosis, babe, it's truth."

A few heavy treads echoed up to the stairwell door, Elite hooves and Grunt stubs nearing  with a hollow symphony of clomps. "Did you just call her 'babe'?"  Malachi asked, despite their predicament.

Sarah shook her head. "He nicknames everybody. I don't care, just don't let Grey hear you say that."

"I'm sure he'll understa--F*CK!" he was cut off by the emergence of an emerald green ball of plasma impacting the doorframe. Eyes readjusting to the normal light, Lockett zeroed in on the outline of the Grunt, who he instantly dubbed "the pistoleer" and soon after rendered the victim of a half second of .30 caliber fire. He didn't see much past the cloud of blue ichor, but he could guess the alien was doing the dance of death, as were the next two behind him.

By then, James and Redding opened fire, showering the stairwell in various round types, shredding flesh and armor. The first Elite didn't last long, his shields rippling to a glassy pop before he was thrown backward down the stairs with an array of holes in his chest and face.

"Keep the fire on!"

  • 2 weeks later...

A deafening sound thundered throughout the city, the carrier sparked to life, opening a portal. In its wake followed a ship, entering the slipstream as the portal closed. The EMP then began to annihilate buildings in the vicinity, shredding open walls, ripping roads from bridges and sending troops of all species into oblivion. The platoon, while far away from the blast was still EMPd, ships dropped from the sky and buildings collapsed as a blinding flash engulfed the city. Then as suddenly as it began, it stopped. The streets were lifeless, radios were silent, many were dead. As if this was an apocalypse, meteors rained from the sky. Hundreds of pods. Each containing a single human occupant dropped in the city. Many died on impact, few survived. In the hours following the event, more ships arrived out of slip space. Truth's fleet came to finish what regret started. The Brute reinforcements attacked all soldiers, human and Elite. In hours, nearly all Sangheili I the city were dead, as we're most of the humans...

Joseph sat in his pod, clamping tightly to the supports, looking down. He couldn't bare to look up and watch his fellow pods disintegrate into ash and dust. He eyed a pod nearby to his, he noticed two things. One, it was on fire, and two, it grew in size. He was puzzled until seconds before it was right next to him. He realized, "It's not getting bigger, it's getting closer." as the Pod smacked into his with a hail of electricity and fire, swirling like a dance. Damaged, his pod went off course, into the streets. He noticed the world becoming still for a split second, almost like a beauty, the clouds, then a smash... He awoke about a half an hour later, startled, and barely breathing, he crashed into the side of an elephant, taking a breath, he jumped, about six feet. Crawling on the ground he fell. He felt the coldness of the ground. Then he realized, his helmet was gone. He got up, broken, but alive. His armor riddled with cuts and blood, some of his, some not. He limped to his helmet, as he crouched to pick it up, grunting and coughing as he did so. He turned it around in his hand. It was the most beaten piece of his armor. A crack slashed through the visor, not wide, but long. He put his helmet on, the yellow visor came to life. Glitching and Buzzing out, it pointed to a SMG. Normally it would label stats of the gun, but it was too glitched due to the crack. He sprinted to it, and picked it up, superstitiously pointed everywhere, waiting for a Jackal to come out of no where, then he notices a man-hole. Left clean throughout all of this, he figured going down it would keep him out of sight, and he had enough battery left to run through the tunnels for a regroup. He needed to find some help.

Murphy awoke to an all too familiar feeling.

The twisted scrap metal once again enclosed him. He shoved off the heavy metal plate and stood up, leaning on the side of the Pelican for support while he regained his bearings.

It was several minutes before that happened. He checked his gear. No damage. It was just then he noticed an glow coming from the city. He gazed out.

Carriers, Cruisers, Phantoms touching down all over the remaining city, banshees patrolling the sky.

He rushed into the Pilot's seat. Empty. Looking out the window was darkness, barley visible beyond a few feet.

Making up his mind he turned on the lights. A grunt ran screaming from what looked like an office. The pelican was embedded in the side of the building.

He went for the radio. Static....all channels dead.

He made his way to the back of the Pelican. It was at least a 4-story drop to the ground.

"This is gonna' be fun."
