  1. That's based on the limits of our current technology and knowledge. It's very possible that we will learn how to digitally interact with a nervous system and brain, we just can't now or the near future. Just bare in mind Halo is set 500 years into the future and now involves a race that has the technology to turn humans to digital information.

I've just read of something that is called the multi-tissue chip, not a processor but close to the idea. In 500 years we won't need digital hopefully.

  2. So, The chief goes off and tries to find her? but where does he start? Where did the Didact fall to? Requiem. So....again he goes there only to find she has been so fragmented that parts of her has changed and not for the better, in the end he has to make a choice between her and those around him. Protect those that he has been trained to protect or retrieve a vital part of himself even if it is trying to kill him.

Let's have a psychopathic Cortana being slowly retrieved but hurt as she can't reintegrate without losing parts of herself driving her to kill anything and everything.

  3. Considering that:

    1. Most of the time in the first trilogy they were separated for various reasons.

    2. Most other Spartans do not (and have not had in the past) AI counter-parts.

    3. The cost of a Smart AI outweighs that of a fleet of normal ships.

    4. The possible security risks of having a spartan in the field with an AI in their suit (i.e. captured AI).

    5. The reason that John was paired with Cortana (going by in-game canon) was to prevent her capture by the covenant boarding parties aboard the Pillar of Autumn, and to disarm the bomb in Halo 2, and he simply didn't have much chance to return her to a safe location after both events for the rest of the games.

There is a chance that John Spartan 117 will not receive a replacement for Cortana.

Canon ruins creativity Director but it's good for reminding us to remember it now and then. If the chief doesn't get one then let's hope for a team that he can direct, they tried RTS why not another?

This is great, the punters are starting to spec and flesh things out. Massive fan input to possible scenario's within canon boundaries is nothing but great fun, you never know we might actually work out a close enough approximation of the next installment.

  4. That link was cool when it came out in august, I've been following a concept since the early 90's called the DNA machine and been following student debates on A.I across the planet. That link is storage not processing but i think future processing will be done via spin and the incorporation of light rather than hard chip design, the theory is there and the raw early tech but we are 50 - 60 years away before we will have a full VR A.I .

Corty can never step into the orgainc because our neurons are constantly changing to suit the input. in order to think and feel she would have to have the equivalent of a full working VR-ed brain and nervous system and body. She would have to be grown like a baby. You cannot impress a neural network on a blank slate and expect it to change accordingly in an instant. Organic systems don't just rearrange or assemble on the spot, they grow from a base plan. They can clone Halsey but it would be as a baby with Corties neural network in there but integrating over a period of time as it grows.

Ol chief will be a dirty old man when she get's of age, ew.

  5. I would have the Librarian A.I compromise his suits systems and force him to go after the Didact that has shown up again but the Didact has Cortana's imprint slaved to his armor and he's going to release the flood on humanity and then compose it but his actual plans is to go after the last Precursors to whom he blames for all the evils that has befallen him, the chief thwarts his plans but joins forces with him when they fall through a portal to a supposed precursor world station and find the Galaxies true owners preparing for their come back with the original human/forerunner beings before they split the genome in half to create two distinct species. Our original design, a stripped down downgraded Precursor variant with flood characteristics.

A bit of mature A.I would be great for a change rather than too much of the vulnerable female. as one commenter stated, bring back the one liner smart alec A.I that her character is famed for. Even have the Librarian A.I act a bit pompous.

The precursors were trying to design a organic transcendence system by first creating other races and then watch as they evolved only to find their models only changed so far and then stopped and died out or destroyed themselves, in the end they settled on a singular system that would when introduced absorb the individuals to become one and attain a transcendent oneness. but then the forerunners rebelled and so most of the Precursors gave themselves over to their creation, the flood rather than be annihilated by their own children.

The flood was designed to claim all life in a galaxy and then pull back to let life start again, it was to be the 5th element, the evolution changer until a form of supreme organics could be attained.

Anyone got a better outline with their own spice to add to it?

  6. It's a brilliant twist, we got so used to Jens voice that we didn't pickup on the fact that since H1 she has been stuck in some place other than with the chief for a period of time, H4 had to bring a game changer and it did but her character plays on the male psyche in more ways than is usual. Love it, most players are male and protecting females and children is genetic but surprisingly we also kill a lot of them as well.

  7. I had to go back to Cryptum and try and see when and where bornstellar talks of what a Gea's is, the Didact talks of it as a programme set either imprinted in memory or genetically. So, we have two types of Gea's. The instruction set that activates when certain conditions are present and the imprinted memory set of another being.

My best guess is that every human has these deep gene instruction sets but due to gene expression it just so happened to culminate when one went looking for a particular expression and found all those who came close and guess what? the chief had the right set.

Halsey? I'm not convinced that she carries a Librarian gea's, only because the Librarian never was shown to work with ancilla's or create them but it doesn't mean the Librarian didn't write in the instruction set to develop A.I along similar lines, she might of wrote it in to develop a melded technology of forerunner type, who knows.

Really if your idea's do pan out it would all hinge on cell memories or inherent memory or the forerunners had technology that snapshot their memories and possibly their persona's, memory engrams, it would explain the A.I librarian and the Didact Gea's that the chief apparently has.

This is an earlier excerpt from Cryptum.

"A Lifeworker as powerful as the Librarian certainly had the means to impose a generations-long genetic command upon the objects of her study. Such a compulsion in past times would have been called a geas. Some students of the Mantle even believed that the Precursors had imposed a geas upon Forerunners."

This could explain the A.I Librarian

"When Forerunners die—usually by accident or, on rare occasions, during war— elaborate ceremonies are enacted before their remains are disposed of in fusion fires associated with the activities of their rates—a melting torch or planet cutter. First, the Forerunner’s last memories are abstracted from his armor, which preserves a few hours of the occupant’s mental patterns. This reduced essence— a spectral ****** of personality, and not a whole being—is placed in a time-locked Durance."

I thought gregg never used the word essence but he has here in this excerpt from Cryptum and the Didact uses it when the Librarian A.I speaks with the Chief during a cutscene in H4.

The Didact says "Even in death her meddling continues"

    "Relinquish your contact essence"

  8. There is speculation that humans have forerunner genes but only as a carrier to enable recognition for forerunner tech to respond to them but again speculation only.

Where in all the lore, not the wiki's but the actual written material that has been released that states that cortana has DNA in her matrix?

So we know where all those composed humans digitized selves were sent to when new phoenix was taken, back to requiem and when you think about it it's obvious.

  9. The flood from my perspective is the precursors answer to the forerunner betrayal when they rose up against them almost 160 thousand years ago? but the terminals say that the forerunners had been in ascendance for a thousand generations, so. How long did the average forerunner live for? The librarian was over 11 thousand years old and her audio voice was of a woman in her late fifties. There has been mentioned in the books of the number of "Ten million years before in another galaxy"

Don't know if the Arby will be able to mount any sufficient force to even get to requiem and having the nutty sangehelli go off in search of the fabled holy warrior would be a boon as he will then be able to set about getting Sangelio's back up and running.

  10. One pair of idiots named one of their children "Deese", i take it as in "Deese es madness"

Names hold power, a powerful name is never forgotten or a beautiful one. I don't know what's got into people these day's, even getting married they take on two surnames, so what happens when two people marry with two surnames each?

  11. Hell no but it took it to another level and this one was backed up by two books of two trilogies, four books and 5 live action episodes before it released, i don't know of any other games that has been given this amount of attention and the story though different is continued in Spartan Ops, as i live in Nz it's too expensive to play online and too laggy so i wish the story and campaign had more meat to it, A second disk would have felt worth the $100 spent on it.

Forerunner lighting haze actually hurts the eye's and when i went to see if i could tone it down in some setting somewhere, i found none, also the music could not be muted and trying to hear what corty whispers to the chief on the last platform is impossible.

Great personal story, about time the game started to evolve.

  12. This is here you can find the summary http://www.amazon.co...r/dp/0765323982

Actually disregard what i've posted before as i just reread Primordium. So the Chaka's fragment is going after the Librarian or the librarian engram on Requiem? but it seems to me she is actually still alive somewhere? or is it the engram it wants?

Thanks sierra, that was enlightening, so the Ur-Didact is recovered and goes about his plans for the shield worlds and the creation of a promethean knights defensinsive force at the cost of a beings higher cognitive state of being.

Man i should always reread a book before i comment.

Chaka's alluded to the possibility that human and forerunner were once one organism that was split apart for an experiment.

"lofty interest in the stages of an ongoing experiment. Was there some sense of satisfaction at this melding of so many Forerunners and humans? Some triumphal revisiting of an ancient plan, long ago frustrated, then abandoned, but now possible once more? Could Forerunners and humans be recombined and reverse their shivering asunder so many milions of years before . . . when the Primordial and the last of its kind decided on a larger, wider strategy, a greater plan that would no doubt bring about immense pain, but also a greater unity of al things. . . . Through the Flood, the Shaping Sickness. The greatest chalenge and contest of al. From that chalenge, humans had for a moment only emerged victorious, only to be decimated by the Forerunners—a second crushing defeat for the Primordial’s plans."

I say, we should wait Silentium to be sure on what happened. Maybe we saw the memories of the Ur-Didact in the first three terminals, but then the role just passed to Bornstellar. Who knows for sure?

I won't say this is true until i'll read Silentium.

Again, this is true, Silentium will atleast answer a few things that gregg has laid down, the storyline seems to be taking the classic Adam and Eve line that is so reminiscent of so many other sci-fi reads. I thought frank said in a interview that Silentium would be out in January? instead we have to wait 3 months, i suppose it's the ease in of the new company and the new system they are trying to bring in. A spreading out of the story to coincide with Spartarn Ops.

  13. The Ur-Didact wasn't executed, but was just abonded in a flood infested system and later returned to the forerunner empire. It would make more sense if it was the Ur-Didact placed in the Cryptum and Bornstellar activated the Halo rings because the terminals show the Ur-Didact during the Human-Forerunner and he looks the same as the one in the game. Bornstellar was physically altered due to the brevet mutations, but he wasnt as muscular as a promethean and still resembled the physique of a human, while the Didact in the game was definitely a Promethean, so I'm basing my statement off of appearance.

Yes, i see you mention this before that the Ur-Didact was abandoned but the terminals don't talk of this and i read Silentiums prerelease excert, it doesn't mention this unless i've read a different excert, you got a link to the one you've read sierra?

The reason i don't base my line of thinking on the Ur-Didact is that bornstellar was young and inexperienced though he had the neural realignment from the brevet mutation i.e Th Didacts neural networks of most his experiences grown during the mutation. He would still be inexperienced emotionally though they were'nt human they were close to us. I'm leaning towards what you say though but keeping the curve ball factor open, what if bornstellar took control of the remaining forerunner forces and tried as he did to stop Mendicant bia's and the flood but lost his way as he faced continuous defeat on all sides? It would break any man and he could've been driven to make decisions that would be under normal circumstances evil, he was young and facing the eventual destruction of his race and the galaxy. A weak line of speculation but a valid one.

I just realized that 'Dust" becomes the Master Builder since the ecumene was destroyed during the attack by Mendicant bia's.

  14. The Librarian I believe told us she was kinda like a recording with limited functionality. You'd have to go back and listen to Master Chief and the LIbrarian's conversation again.

Yes this is true, i was making a statement where is a lot of people think it's the Librarians actual composed persona , in other words i was just backing it up with canon and actual audio quotes. Silentium will answer the Didact speculation hopefully.

Well, i'm not 100% positive on this, but in Cryptum it is said that the Ur-Didact is killed by the Master Builder, when they were on the San-Shyuum planet. Then, Bornstellar took his imprint, and his memories, and his bad temper. Bornstellar existed no more, and the Didact returned. But as i said, i'm not completely sure on this.

No you are right but it was the Librarian that told bornstellar that the Ur-Didact was killed or

“The Didact is here,” my wife said. “The Didact is gone.”

“You refused to give Faber what he needed to activate all the Contender-class ancilas. You refused to give him the location of all your Shield Worlds. It is said that the Master Builder executed you on the San’Shyuum quarantine planet. You are now all i have"

From this quote is where a few of us believe the original came back and that he fired the Halo's or it was Bornstellar, either way a Didact fired the halo's or it's a canon break from what the terminals in H3 say.

Finally, there is Didact's line in Terminal Seven: "I will begin our Great Journey without you, carrying this bitter record. Those who came after will know what we bought with this [false transcendence] - what you bought, and the price you paid."

  15. I've listened to the part where the Librarian copy is talking to the chief then the Didact shows up, he definitely says "Relinqiush your contact essence" at first i thought it sounded like ancilla but the second time round it was essence. Gregg bear has never used that word anywhere in the books nor is there any forerunners composed anywhere except possibly the Librarian but i believe she's just a memory engram that had limited function.

What gets me is that either i'm wrong or Gregg bear and 343i has made a non-canon change. In H3 the terminals give information that the Didact or what i believed to be him was communicating to the Librarian that he was going to fire the Halo's and she would be left on earth and destroyed with all life in the galaxy and apparently she was but come to Cryptum and Primordium and H4 we have the Didact imprisoned and the Librarian as a ancilla, either it's a canon break or there was two Didacts and the Librarian in H4 is a limited memory engram A.I. This is why a few of us believe there is two Didacts.

The Didact in H4 is the original or Bornstellar but his sigil is inverted from his original sigil and one of them fired the Halo's, none of the Councillors could've done it as they were all destroyed/killed and none of them was romantically linked to the librarian.

  16. Everything in Reach was considered canon... So that kinda cancels out the book.

Well thanks for clearing that up for me, the Librarian is dead. So I don't think that she could bring Cortana back either way..

I've been trying to figure out what she(Corty) whispers to the chief before he jumps up on the light bridge.

I was wrong about what the Didact says about Corty when he says "This evolved ancilla"

Corty is so heavily fragmented that she still resides in the chiefs armor on the last platform before they jump to the light bridge, his visor fizzes up and she or her rampant copies are whispering to him, anyone know what she's saying in full to him?

  17. Don't need a link, Cortana is the only AI to have living DNA, she is with the librarian at the moment; you will not see Cortana until the Legendary ending of Halo 5, or until Halo 6.

What! Fishy, She can't have DNA in her matrix, DNA is organic, organic can't exist in a flash environment, nothing can except electricity. Corty was a neural map made from halsey's clone but that's it, just an imprimt, a copy composed of electricity stored on a chip composed of a super conductive material yet to be made. That's the Kicker, once these A.I are turned on they can't be shutdown. The chip must always be fed power otherwise the flash will lose a vital tik in it's continuous tok cycle.

I'm really amazed by Sci Fi, there has been this recurring idea expressed throughout the last 70 years by many authors, could we ever upload and download again? could an A.I step into the physical universe, guess what i put it down to? The fact that we are biologically the same right across the planet, we tend to arrive at a shared consensus though one might start it off the formulation of it was always there once we hear of it, sometimes this shared belief can turn into a meme, a notion or an idea that is taken for truth even when it is proven to be false your inner self still believes it's true. I'm not saying this is what you are or what you believe, i'm just stating how amazing sci fi authors are and how they all seem to kick back to the idea of an A.I and a biological mergence.

All of us on this planet yearn for oneness, yearn for the top down zoom out and in system to be in our heads at any given time, hence our addiction to news media, gps, social media gadgets and the net, the more infomation we know of what's coming is better than not knowing.

Halo 5? I'm not going to even bother as Silentium is yet to be released and Spartan Ops has yet to be completed, January will give us more of an idea how the story might turn out or in what possible direction it is headed.

Has anyone thought that they might recover a partial fragment of corty but can't initialize it as it is too fragmented? Then Halsey dies and gets her neural network copied and they can initialize the old fragment of Corty again?

    Speculation boys Speculation.

Okay this is just another theory about Cortana's survival, however this time related to Spartan Ops. In the campaign it seems unlikely that the librarian, who had made such accurate predictions regarding the outcome of the Chief would let Cortana "die". So similar to other theories it's very possible that the librarian either copied her when they met, or made some modification that would save her. There are many modifications she could have made, but if you notice when Cortana's terminal is destroyed, a similar data field. To that knights etc leave when killed. So maybe this data field was then uploaded to some forerunner digital world and that's were Cortana is now.

You may now be wondering how this links to Spartan Ops, well so far those who have played through them will have noticed that many humans have been sucked into what could easily be a 'digital world'. Now if then look at the Halo 4 achievements, there are two back to back achievements for Episode 4 - Chapter 5 and Episode 5 -chapter 1. Now this is only a couple of weeks away so it would be early, but maybe there'll be further clues there?

Also just thought I'd add the link to my compilation of the Chief and Cortana

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IX6HLRUWbY&feature=plcp

Oh and here's a really good, in depth theory https://forums.halow...--Spoilers.aspx

When The access plinth is destroyed in midnight with her chip in it she is still able to communicate, you can hear her whispering something like " Get to the the core or they will die" and "I will always take care of you" there is two more whispering audio's but my frikkin 5.1 crappy lcd drops it out over the music, i wish i could mute the music like the old halo's.

  18. What do you mean more time on the ground? I don't understand. He's the commander. General Patraes (probably misspelled it) wasn't a ground fighter. He's a commander. Why would he do that? And to what means?

11 years? Did you get the box not realizing the game came with it like i did? I popped the game in and was enamored right from the start though there has been better playable games that has come out, i'm still drawn back to this one for a good time killer.

  19. The Didacts inverted icon, i've been rethinking this, What if the Didact is the Bornstellar Didact that becomes disillusioned with the way the Librarian was handling things and changes the plan and gets himself inprisoned, then the Ur-Didact comes back onto the scene, though they were at odds with each other originally they still share their love for one another, He's the original and was in cryptum on her side, i better reread it just in case but it makes a different point in the storyline. Bornstellar was and is still a very young Forerunner even if his Brevet mutation aged him he still isn't the original Didact.

What if Cortana is in the Domain, it's been cutoff for a hundred thousand years?

  20. I don't need to read them as the information is available, do you think the games are going to follow the books exactly? Give away the story before the game is released? I know she was on earth but she has a fully functioning AI on that world, and it is functioning enough to change the Chiefs DNA. In the books the Original Didact died, at least his body did, he was killed by a Forerunner builder. However he transfered his mind into the body of another Forerunner and that is in the books, maybe you need to read them. You can go check Halo Wikia, all the info about the Didact is there. As for the Librarian, that was not an memory chip, it wsa using direct interaction, and control functions, including controling the Prometheans, until the Didact escaped. Anyway the Didact was killed by Faber, and transfered his mind into Bornsteller, that's why people think there were two. But their were not. Cool? It's called the Brevet Mutation. They can do this transfer an unknown amount of times, chances are and this is just a guess, but Dr. Halsey probably contains part of the Librarian consciousness. This would explain her natural afinity with Forerunner tech, her desire to create the Spartans(the Libriarans actual plan), and her gift for genetics, it would explain why she is so much smarter than everyone else. How the transfer is actually done is unkown, and how it works as well, but we will probably see this explained.

To be honest I think I am right, but we will see. I know I am right about the Didact though. I should have made it clear what I was talking about with the Libriarian. Cortana is an AI, Guilty Spark was, and chances are that Librarian we say in the game was as it was running that shield world. AI's are friggin smart, and have lots of info, it new exactly how to change John. But we will see, one way or another the Librarian still has a part to play, I can feel it. If she can do multi generational genetic memory encoding, which is what she did and it lasts for Billions of years, she could have done that with her own memory as well via the Brevet Mutation on whatever human seed she wanted. See I know a little about books.

Just to further the point. The Librarian died in Africa at a Forerunner site. Africa the cradle of Humanity, the place where it all began for us. Who is to say the Libriarian didn't have a protocol setup where a drone went out grabbed a cave person and used a device at the instilation to unpload her genetic memory and part of her concsience into them. So that one day they would evolve into Dr. Halsey, or the reincarnation of the Librarian in my own opinion. Look at Cortana based off genetic meterial for the Doc. The only thing outside of a Forerunner to surviive the mental attack of a Gravemind. Kind of a lucky twist of fate, or Cortanas unkown factor, Halsey identified an unkown factor in her creation for making her as smart as she was and unique as she was. What do you think that factor was considering she is based off the doctors mind? Plenty of hints. But again we will see. Just a theory, which is what this thread is about. The Doc and the Librarian are both experrts in the exact same fields, Genetics, AI's, etc. The Doctor could be to the Libriarian what Cortana was to the Doc. Cortana was much more than just a computer, she had emotions, concsience, selfawearness, feelings. Not a normal AI at all. And all based off the Doc herself.

We can finish this debate in like 6 years. Looking forward to it.

One last thing everything being discussed by us was left open ended, Halsey's past the Librarian's time on earth, Cortanas fate, Halseys natural gifts, cortanas natural gifts. All left open ended. A writer only does that for one reason. To address them later, and all of them can be tied together. Maybe I am right and maybe I am wrong but they are clearly easy connect.

That's what made me laugh when i read the wiki's they can be edited for whatever bias suits and greg bear didn't write those books after the game, they were written in conjunction with the development of it, The Ur-Didact was imprisoned before the halo's were fired but the terminals from H3 states that The Didact was going to fire them and most believe he did, i state believe because of the didact being found on requiem just in case he is the bornstellar Didact. Silentium will put this to rest, logic dictates that the didact MC released is the Ur-Didact because of his inverted forerunner symbol and that he was imprisoned before the halo's were fired, A few of us believe he was not executed on the San Shyum Homeworld but was abandoned by Faber coupled with the fact that he was a character of interest and greg wrote his execution without much of a fill out you would expect for a character like him, it made me suspicious right from the get go.

Yes the Librarian is supposed to have died on earth but the Chaka's monitor who took over a UNSC ship stated he was going in search of her and he had a good idea where she was, it could be earth or it could be requiem but he would've shown up there before the events of H4 but i'm leaning towards earth, The lore says that she destroyed her fleets and anyway for her to get beyond the halo pulse and remained on earth to bury the portal to the ark and live out the last days in her eden but there's no record of her death, speculative but it ties it back to the chaka's monitor's actions. The Halo pulse disintegrates organic matter, it doesn't just kill, it wipes out anything the flood can use to survive. If she died in the pulse she got dematerialized like any other organism larger than bacteria and the Domain was inaccessible for long range data transfer, somehow mendicant bias corrupted it.

There's no connect in the storyline. The Librarian in cryptum programmed the human DNA, that means every human on that planet carried her programming to react to a forerunner if one showed up and was asking around about any ancient artifacts which she implemented a thousand years before. She was playing a very subtle and long reaching game, Her main programming endeavour had to do with passing the mantle over to humans and making sure they had forerunner genes as well as making sure their tech responded to us. It was how the chief was able to have the gea's of the Didact or his genetic memories but in his case all he heard was the Didacts voice, All modern humans would have that programming as it was only a hundred thousand years when the pulse was triggered, not millions. 343 took liberties with the terminals stories, the librarian talks of growing from animals to higher lifeforms to humans all in a hundred thousand years, you and i both know that that's poppycock as it conflicts with previous released animes of the reseeding of the galaxy.

If Halsey had her Gea's then a good amount of humans would too, not just one woman, The humans from cryptum had operational gea's which means they surfaced every now and then but modern humans don't though it's probably deep in the layers somewhere and have to be brought out like that engram did to the chief when she evolved him or she changed his DNA to have it, the operative word she used was "evolve". That ghost A.I of the librarian isn't an actual A.I, she said she was just the memories of the librarian not the composed persona of her but if she was, how did she get to requiem from earth with no transport as all portals and transport were closed? There's no mention anywhere in the lore or the books about a forerunner that can have themselves composed and live at the sametime.

343 worked hard to cover most of the games open ends, so far they have done a pretty good job.

Your first paragraph told me you are operating on second hand data, you would've known this if you had read the books because the wiki's are written by the community and can be altered by the community to suit what the writer believes and you would've known that Silentium which is due out in january will answer whether there is two Didacts or not and would've agreed that there can't be an imprisoned Didact and a Didact that fired the Halo's from the ark at the sametime, actually did he fire it from the ark? i can't remember but he did fire it not somebody else.

So it all rests on Silentium not 6 years from now.

Oh by the way, don't get ego bashed, all of us males are subject to it until we learn it's a big joke and when we think we've seen a pattern to something it's just us as humans following our natural instinct for pattern inference recognition, we all do it every minute of everyday. Greg could've just doubled the successful vehicle of the chief and cortana but at odds with each other in the didact and his wife but you could actually be right as well.

As i said it's up to Silentium and in that book we find out how the flood might of come about.
