Is free to play really free?

Here's an experiment to try.

Find a F2P game you haven't sign-up for, any game you choose, play it without using any real world currency and then see how far you can advance and how long it takes to advance. You'll probably be able to advance well enough at first, but if you don't use your credit card to buy gold or whatever is needed to build or craft comething you'll hit a wall and the pace of the game will move like the slug monster from Monster's University who didn't want to be late for class.

Free to Play, not Free to Beat.

They trick you into thinking that the game is free when in all reality it's more expensive than most apps because after buying 2 or 3 things you've spent more than it would've cost to get another game of equal quality that's only a one time purchase.

Planetside 2. Nuff said.

It's an enormous game, and you don't need to pay anything at all to be the very best in the game, microtransactions are only used for minor weapon upgrades or skins. Which you can still purchase with the virtual credits you earn.

Along with that, there are many other games that you don't need to pay a cent for.
As Zebra said, there's a difference between Free to Play and Free to Beat.
