Halo 2 Vista supports mods and map editor?! Why aren't more people swarming over this.

I know full well that the servers for the PC version of Halo 2 were saved because of dedicated fans signing a petition and 343 Industries are currently looking for different ways to keep the game running but has there since been updates about this at all? I just recently ordered a copy of the game as I want to play the game online again for the memories.
