Being sent back to start campaign over and over again??

I have played every Halo level. First time ever, when I'm killed I am sent back to the very beginning everytime. I have tried saving, over and over no help. I'm taking the game back to Walmart as being defective. I see others posting on forums with the same complaint. Right now a great game SUCKS!!
