  1. CUSTOM GAMES LOBBIES

This is an idea I had on how 343 could implement a system to allow players on LIVE to join custom games created by others. I realize this may never happen... but I'll throw it out there if anyone wishes to have a discussion.

Make it an option in the Infinity Menu, complete with its own nifty name and section of ship.

    Players will enter a menu...

    > Create Game

    > Join Game

If you click "Create Game", you basically build a custom game. It would be understood by the player that a game created here will be posted into an archive of games, open to anyone who wishes to join. A host would have to press X or B to either allow or deny access to the game upon seeing gamertag in a joining notification. A host would have the rights to boot players from the game.

If you click "Join Game", the interface looks up a game based on criteria like a certain game type, a certain map, or even random. The sorting loads a certain number of created custom games per iteration of the sorting method, scroll to the bottom of the list it gives you and it looks for more. When you highlight a certain game, it tells you how many players are in the game, who created it, what map it is, and what game type (slayer, slayer pro, swat, team slayer, so on so forth, or the game type custom name). People could come and go as they please even while people are already playing. The host could restart a game if he/she so chose.

Again, this is just an idea.

I really think the potential of this game to be incredibly fun is sorely underplayed by matchmaking. You just pick a gametype and strap yourself in to play it a while.

Make it as close to getting a group of folks together for Friday Night Halo games at somebody's house as possible, just over LIVE. You know there would be more community among the players, because you know there are regulars who will start looking for certain people who do certain game types they like.

    Thank you for reading.

    Happy Gaming,

    MLOW

  2. The SAW is a great weapon to use... especially for knocking off those pesky promethians. It just rips.

Gotta say, I love my sword. DMR, Binary Rifle, and Sticky Detonators are all close though.

Haven't used the sticky detonator at all yet.... how does it play?

  3. Thats what I was saying haha, takes more skill in H4, therefore people suck at jetpacking/shooting.

    Oooh I get it. lol

I was trying to picture what it would look like if a player who just really cannot even shoot period did nothing but jetpack around in matchmaking.

ps - thruster pack is the shizz for rizz

  4. I'd really like to see what a slayer match would be like if everyone used jetpacks.... even better on a map that forces players to use the jetpack.

Really jet packing people, generally, A) suck at shooting or B ) are terrible.

Disagreed. I love shooting while jetpacking. In fact, I think it takes a bit more skill to shoot effectively while airborne. Death from straight above.

  5. You either like a game or you don't. If you can't stop playing Halo 4, then you like it even though it pisses you off at times. If you can't bring yourself to play Halo 4, it's because you don't like it. But if you never play Halo 4, then you probably don't have much to offer this community, and you'll likely be doing more condescending than constructing.

Personally, I love H4. I don't ever play COD, so I could give a crap less about whether or not H4 is like it.

As always, no disrespect intended. Just my opinion, of course.

  6. Well I would say stop thinking about the rank and why you are playing with whomever, some people are really overthinking this. 343i is not out to personally shame people individually by pitting them against "really skilled" people. You win some, you lose some. If you really feel that you can't hold your ground quite as well as before, how else would you remedy it other that by really just getting better at the game and what you can do. Not being a jerk about it but that is really what is up.

I am a casual player, but like anyone else, I have more fun when I am up than I do when I am down.

  7. So before you read what I have to say please take these points into account.

First, I am not attacking Bungie or 343i I am simply being honest with what I see.

Second, these are my thoughts and opinions I claim them as neither right nor wrong so do not assume otherwise. Third, if you post at least take the time to read what I’ve written.

I did read your post, and I can see it is fairly well thought out.

This response is coming from someone who completed all Halo games minus Halo Wars and Halo 3 ODST.

I’m not quite sure where to start so I guess I’ll begin by talking about how I think Halo really changed direction starting with Reach. For the past few years I have continued to play Halo 3 instead of Reach, I even resisted ever owning my own copy of Reach. Now this is not because Reach was/is bad but simply because I never quite saw the logical jump from H3 to it. I started playing halo back when 2 was launched and when I had a chance to get H3 I jumped on it. The jump from H2 to H3 felt natural, easy like it was the logical progression. Sure the game had changed but on the base level it still felt the same. Weapons had changed, maps had changed but at the core it still had the same feel of H2.

Well, you're right about there not being a consistency between H3 and Reach. I was also taken aback by the addition of many of the features, but not to say I was disappointed. I often played games that facilitated that "Old Halo" feel to a degree. Because the maps were not proportionally oversized for the size of the player, I thought it had a better flow to it. Not too fast paced, plenty of room to work, but not enough open room to slow down the game. H3 maps were just so huge that, in my opinion, it slowed down the pace of the game too much.

    Fast forward a few years

Halo REACH comes out, new weapons, new maps, and armor abilities. From a Halo 3 point of view it’s not the same game. Sure it has Halo in the title but it fails to play like the Halo that I love. The game is faster, jet packs now add a new level of play. Sprint is like a bad dream, the game no longer has that feeling of calculated play. I feel like it’s reverting to who sees who first....and I hate it. So I don’t play it, I ignore it. I keep playing halo 3 because what else can I do? So I wait hoping that H4 will be my savior. Hoping that H4 will return Halo to the play style that I love.

I disagree with you about Reach. Sure there were many additions to the gameplay, but I think that going from the sluggish H3 to Reach is why it seemed more fast paced to you, but I never really felt like it was a rush play. The different gametypes were available if you didn't prefer the AA's, and I often took advantage of that. But sometimes, it was a lot of fun to play with the AA's (minus armorlockers, those dirtbags). Not to mention you were Spartan III's which were not as massive as the Spartan II's (chief). I really wish I could have seen (or would see with H4) gametypes where everyone uses the jetpack, because a straight up aerial slayer would be incredibly fun, I think.

    Halo 4

    - Weapon spawns are no longer a huge part of the game

    - Power weapons are given out like candy

    - Everyone has sprint AND an armor ability

    - Ordinance drops

    - A single player with a DMR can hold down just about anything they want to

    - Perks, I really miss powerup spawns

Halo 4 is also quite unbalanced. For example plasma pistols have always had the abality to shutdown vehicles, but now you can simply spawn with one....see the problem here?

I'm still getting used to the fact that we can choose our loadouts. I don't mind so much that basically everyone has access to a specific set of the same power weapons each game, because it prevents any one person from powerhousing a weapon.

And I don't know about you, but I ain't scared of no gosh damned DMR.

Also, I agree with you on the plasma pistol. That should be something reserved for finding on the map for taking out vehicles.

My point is I think Halo has gotten too fast. Before it was never about speed but about tactics and true skill, I just don’t get that feeling anymore. I don’t feel like I’m playing Halo at all anymore but some hybrid monster. I don’t have the satisfaction of trying to gain rank as it’s exp based and not skill based. I doubt very many players would call H3 a “Stale copy” of H2, so why was the decision made to fix things that weren't broken. As a long term player I’m sad to see how the game has evolved, just another shooter with little to separate it from the rest. I will continue to play H4 because it's at heart a decent game, but the Halo that I knew died a while back.

Yes, H4 is much faster in gameplay. They threw in that instant spawn which rushes the gameplay and encourages impatience.

It is a different kind of Halo, but I personally am loving it as much as I did H2. It's on a simpler level, though. It's like the physics and the size of the battlefields and the size of the players fit, in my opinion. The pace is fast, but I don't believe it is unbalanced. It compensates that fast pace with having fairly open areas to play, but not so open that you can't ever find anyone (in a substantially populated game, obviously). I'm giving 343 a thumbs up with it.

I would also contemplate that the "fast pace" has to do with it being a young release thus far, and many new people are still popping in. I admit, although I've been through a lot of different Halos, I still got that nervous first few matches where I was for the first time competing and trying to learn how everything works. I think if there's a lot of that going on, then those particular games will seem frantic.

Good post, OP. I respect your perspective on it.

Again people...unless you can contribute something meaningfull to threads like this, stay the hell out and keep it shorter than it becomes. Spamming and posting nonsense makes it harder to read thru these threads and find relevance.

The guy has a right to his perspective, and every right to post it in an attempt to engage in a discussion. No need to try to shut folks down because you don't agree and you crave the last word on the matter. We're all just people here.

  8. CUSTOM MATERIAL UPDATE 11/29/12 @ 11:36 PM CST

    Added Map:

    - Sirius : This map is built to pay homage to a once great map, Ascension. This is not Ascension, and it isn't intended to be exactly like Ascension. However, it is built remniscent of the H2 map with the familiar layout with a stellar spin. My disclaimer is as follows, regarding this map. I do not consider myself a master forger, forge sculptor, remaker of maps, or anything like that. It is best to enjoy this map simply for what it has in itself.

    '-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-,

    Game Variants:

    - Swat BRs

    - Swat DMRs

    - Swat Magnums

    - Swat Shotties

    - Swat Deluxe (BRs, DMRs, and Magnums, no initial secondary)

    Map Variants :

    - Tungsten : I boxed in the erosion base to make it just a little more narrow, then added building blocks, pipes, bunkers, and other structures to make an urban combat style map. Suited for non-objective game types like slayer, team slayer, swat, etc.

    - Interstitial : This map happened by accident. I was trying to enclose the circular base in Impact when I got knocked above the ceiling bars with the grid. I found that I was unable to escape this area, so I floored it in, set up spawn points, threw a few guns in there, and made it extremely tight quarters with many narrow spaces. Great up-close and in-your-face map; will be hell for eight players. Suited for non-objective game types like slayer, team slayer, swat, etc.

    - Aluminum : Built inside the Impact round base (closed in), it is a radially symmetric map that spans from floor to ceiling. The underlevel of the map is floored in.

If you are interested, you are welcome to them. Just add me up (GT: MegaLowVoltage) and download from my fileshare in H4. Let me know what you think if you try them out.

I'll continue forging and changing up the game, so you can be sure I will add more content later. New content will be posted as an edit to the OP along with an updated date and time. New content will be described at the top in bold. This post will be updated when that time comes. Happy gaming!

  9. I'm having an issue with the 343i.org website. At any random time, a black screen will pop up and block about 80% of the page I'm viewing (not including the tile bar at the top). All I have to do is hit refresh and it will bring up the page without the black screen, but it is really annoying that it happens even while I'm typing up a post.

Has anyone else had this happen?

  10. Here is one reason I prefer the BR. I play more close to mid range in general, and with the BR, the spread not only will compensate for slight inaccuracy, but there's always the off chance you can tag two people in the head with a single pull of the trigger (see pics below). Or three, if you get that kind of angle.

If I were more about scoping folks out at a distance, I'd go DMR with the accuracy advantage. But I notice that a lot of the time you'll be shooting at a moving target who's going to move in behind something whether they see you or not. BR all the way for me. Just an opinion.

  11. We weren't necessarily saying that. We are just stating that since the release of Halo 2, each Halo released after that has degraded in communication and team work vauled players. No one even uses mic's anymore. If they do then they are always in a team chat. I am guilty of that though because team chat allows privacy and focus.

Yeah, I feel you there. Of course most of my Halo 2 experience came from system link with a bunch of people I at least kind of knew, and a few folks I played with all the time. When Halo 3 came around and I lost connection with those folks, the matchmaking did lack that element of common community, and I certainly do see the lack of normal teamwork. Perhaps there should be some kind of system established for war games that puts a number of people in a regular matchmaking room, maybe one of their choosing, so that the same people can meet up and play interchangeably with each other regularly. That community aspect in game has a lot to do with what kind of teams and communications are developed. So in respect to your point, I can totally agree.
