  1. Well John is certainly going to be pissed off. Between the cover ups about the Didact, the fact that ONI "allowed" the Phoenix event to happen (linked to Spartan OPS) because of the "Flood" being let loose on Earth ( linked to Spartan Assault) and finding out about ONI's involvement in Arbiters struggles. (Linked to Escalation) Even though John (in the books) wants to believe that the best is being done for a reason, after losing Cortana he may be less inclined to keep the same opinion after learning those truths.

  2. There are a million different theories to bring her back but I've yet to see the most obvious one.

IF Cortana is with the Didact (thats assuming since she was restraining him at the end of 4 when John set off the grenade on the Didacts chest and there's no way of knowing really where she ended up) and IF Halsey is with the Prometheans (which we see in Spartan OPS) the two are going to cross paths at some point. Going with the assumption that there's a possibility that Cortana is with the Didact it would leave an oppertunity for Halsey to retrieve Cortana from the Didact and return her to John somehow, which I believe she would do despite the revenge Halsey wants to get against the UNSC for ordering her assassination. I don't believe her feelings for John have changed and I personally feel that she would want them reunited again. That's assuming that senario is possible.

However we have also seen Franks interviews that he wanted John to go through that process of forcing him to realize his own humanity and the best way of doing that was for John to lose Cortana. For me personally I feel that John could go through that journey into realizing his humanity and still be reunited with her at some point without it ruining the story or the purpose for losing her in the first place.

Then again there are millions of other ways it could possibly happen but I still feel there is a way to please both the supporters for Cortana being "lost" and Cortana being brought back without sacrificing the story which again personally I am glad they are finally delving deeper into since my draw to the game is the background history, the personal relationships and interactions and the journey those characters take together and how it affects them. Losing that story would kill it for me now that they have finally started opening the door for that depth since I prefer the emotional connection to the story.

  3. Really detailed post. :) You seem to know a lot for someone "new" to the game. The Librarian basically just sped up his evolution and made him immune to the Composer. Reading the books tells you so much more about him. I would recommend picking up "Halo: The Fall of Reach". I don't usually read, but the Halo books are amazing. Very well written, and informative. You learn so much about the storyline.

When I get into something I try to know as much about it as I can from both sides of the spectrum even if I'm wrong, as for the books I just picked up several of them so I'll be breaking into those soon. I look forward to seeing what comes out of them compared to the games and movies.

  4. True. It's possible to see some links in the Live Action T.V Series, unless it's based on different characters. Still possible though.

I personally doubt Chief would ever go rogue. Never. He is far too disciplined to do such a thing.

Well 343 stated in an interview that he was going rogue, unless they change the story line before release I'm assuming they are going to put that in. It's not the first time he's ever disobeyed orders or gone against directive of the upper chain its not hard to assume he is capable of going off on his own.

  5. They may not put it in the game but since there is supposed to be a new live action Halo t.v. series directed by Steven Spielburg coming out soon they may be in that if they don't get put in the game. Then again with Chief/ John going rogue he just might bring them together and reunite them. Never know.

  6. There are several possibilities to bring Cortana back but I am wondering, in Halo (Forward unto Dawn) in the beginning her code is glitching and latching onto John/ Chief's body in the cryo tube and she touches John at the end (Halo 4) are these ways that she's possibly already left a sort of "key" to bringing her back within John/Chief himself?
Even the librarian (even though it wasn't all her just a part of her that was left) when she said that she had to advance him (his genetics and so forth)  mentioned that he had to "unlock" his gifts. That could be a hint that he may have the ability to bring Cortana back himself or that at the end Cortana when she said that most of her was "down there" could have a possible link to bringing her back since we know that the Didact didn't die at the end of 4 and since Cortana was latched to him at the end could be a possibility.

However I know 343 said in an interview they wanted John/Chief to really go through the Heroes delemma process of how they (heroes) don't always succeed that sometimes they do fail and that he needed something to really shock him to his core and really get him to finally realize his own humanity that Cortana was trying to show him for so long, but I can't imagine the game without her anymore.

So personally I'm hoping they find a way for John/ Chief to bring her back but then that may not be part of the story, although you have to wonder if he will find a way to keep his promise to her in some fashion since he most likely feels as if he failed her. We already know that he sacrificed himself and her (at the end of 4) knowing they wouldn't make it out, but as he said "they were supposed to go together" and he wanted it to be that way. Instead Cortana sacrifices herself to save him.

Obviously we will get to see how that really affects Chief in 5 but since Cortana has been so vital it could really go both ways - either we will never see her or we will get to see her revived at the end or he reunites with her in some form or fashion or he comes to terms with losing her and finds a way to move on.

Since 343 has already said that Chief has gone rogue we can assume that there is some sort of break down that happens with him that we (the players) will get to see.

(If you want to go by the trailer, as i've said in a previous post getting to see the forerunner sphinx rising out of the ground is a sort of way of stating that whatever its implying to - information, history, the past, truth, cortana, the truth about john/ chief or all of the above - it won't stay buried for long.)

  7. It's not a trailer, it is a teaser. For past Halo games they have hid a lot of information into just a minute of video.

Of course they sometimes twist what actually happens, but you can still make a decent guess about what is happening.

Going off other evidence about war sphinxes, I don't believe it is a war sphinx. There is a description of one in Cryptum, and concept art of one from Halo 4, neither of which are described as being hundreds of feet tall. The size strikes me as a sign of importance. There was a picture some time ago that showed that the landscape was very similar to the ark from Halo 3.

Now if the forerunner thing is important and it is on the ark I think that the owl thing is Mendicant Bias' 'shell' or its protection.

If the thing is supposed to be an owl, then it is most likely done on purpose, possibly representing wisdom.

    Just for comparison

Even if you want to cast all ideas aside, just the fact that it rises out of the ground is enough to tell you something or someone isn't going to stay dead/buried or hidden for long.

  8. The librarian - when she pulled John/Chief already said that she was "whats left of the forerunner called the librarian" so the AI or some other instance is probaby more correct.

There are tons of ways to bring Cortana back such as:

    A. (Scene from beginning of Forward unto Dawn) When her code glitches and latches onto John while he's in cryo sleep, Cortana may have left part of herself inside him or his armor.

    B. (End of 5) When we see the Didact fall 1. He gives a long speech at the end - are we to assume from that he's alive aside from the point he was already immune to the composer? 2. If he was then part of Cortana had to be either within the composer or the Didact because she was binding him when he "fell." However Cortana already stated that most of her was "down there" referring to the bits and pieces left behind after the nuke went off.

    C. Can we assume that somehow either the librarian (when she basically took Cortana) already made a copy/back up of her somewhere or Cortana still has a copy of herself in a computer or system some place else?

But there are several more ways to bring her back if thats what 343 wants to do. However 343 said they wanted John/Chief to really go through the Heroes delemma process of how they don't always succeed that sometimes they do fail and that he needed something to really shock him to his core and really get him to finally realize his own humanity that Cortana was trying to show him for so long, but I can't imagine the game without her anymore. So personally I'm hoping they find a way for John/ Chief to bring her back but then that may not be part of the story although you have to wonder if he will find a way to keep his promise to her in some fashion since he most likely feels as if he failed her. We already know that he sacrificed himself and her (at the end of 4) knowing they wouldn't make it out, but as he said "they were supposed to go together."

Obviously we will get to see how that really affects him in 5 but since Cortana has been so vital it could really go both ways - either we will never see her or we will get to see her revived at the end or he reunites with her in some form or fashion or he comes to terms with losing her and finds a way to move on.

Arbiter may have a comeback possibility since we already know that he didn't believe that Chief was dead and from what we see in the trailer it appears that John is close to the area we last saw Arbiter. Since producers leaked that Chief is hiding in the trailer for 5 on purpose, and that John has gone rogue.

Is this from him trying to cope with losing Cortana? Him not able to take orders? Or him finding out about Halsey now working with the enemy? Or all of the above?

Either way he's going to need some form of help and either creating new friends/ foes = great idea but also rehashing old friend/foes is a good way to close open plot holes with previous installments and touch roots with the original story lines or characters.

Back to the original point about the librarian and Cortana... Chief still needs to "unlock" the gifts that the librarian gave him - who's to say he doesn't have the ability to bring Cortana back on his own? (Just a thought.)

  9. Yes Chief / John is getting older but we also have to take into account how many times he's been in cryo sleep which freezes the bodies aging process and now he's been "advanced" by the librarian and we (the players) still don't know what all that entails. Taking into account that yes cryo sleep will only slow the aging temporarily but just how much did the librarian do and does it affect his aging? Chief isn't isn't invincible but do we know if what the librarian did create a sort of (for lack of better word) anti - aging or age slowing/ prevention kind of process?

I'd like to know what exactly he is since through the games he's been referred to as many things such as warrior, human, reclaimer and even forerunner decendant. Now I am new to the game and may be missing some information but we all know that John/ Chief has already been advanced by Halsey already so that may also help in his age slowing process so is there really a way of knowing how old he really is for sure discounting the amount of years passing by? Not for sure.

Someone also said about him bringing back Cortana - now my question for that is there are several possibilities but I am wondering, in Halo (Forward unto Dawn) in the beginning her code is glitching and latching onto John/ Chief's body in the cryo tube and she touches John at the end (Halo 4) are these ways that she's possibly already left a sort of "key" to bringing her back within John/Chief himself?

The chip in the trailer is Cortana's chip because we see him in one of the game modes actually picking something up in his hand when he pushes himself back up again. You can tell that the chip is damaged - most likely from being incinerated in the blast. He wouldn't be holding onto one the way he is in the trailer if it didn't have an emotional connection to him, and let's face it Cortana was about as connected to him as it gets.

I don't think Chief/ John will die just yet since he is the focal point of the story 343 is trying to tell and he still has a long journey a head of him to go. We may see him go at the very end of the game when its all said and done but I don't see that happening for many years to come.

Then again, its all just an opinion.
