  1. UNSC would've lost, a unified covenant would've have no opposition.

They'd go down fighting though, High Charity and Delta Halo would've been destroyed by Cortana's plan to detonate the In Amber Clad's reactor. Which most likely would've also prevented Delta Halo from putting all the other rings into standby mode. Not to mention taking care of the Flood.

But that's it. The best the surviving human forces could do after that is either go into hiding or decide to nuke the galaxy by finding and activating a halo ring.

  2. I am forever bummed we got the story we did with Halo 5. I mean it pratically killed my love for the franchise in one play through of the campaign.

I mean ideally I want the flood to return while we're also battling Evil Mega Cortana(Since this is the story we got now). Maybe Cortana helps the Flood and we get Robo-Flood. Yea I just really want more Flood/Precursor stuff I love me some ancient alien civilization trope in my sci-fi.

Isn't robo-flood basically just the Borg?

  3. The PC version is dire, showing itself as a poorly done port rather than a dedicated PC version. I'll be brief about this, but the UI is pretty bad, controls are all over the shop and the options presented are poor. Also, forcing XBL integration is pretty bad and in the PC beta there's no way to add new people and play with them due to this system, it's really wonky. Controls are a pretty big part of an RTS and the way they've done it just doesn't work.

Performance wise there was no issue, but the recommended GTX 1060 is just not needed at all. The game in no way requires a card on that level for max settings.

If the game was on Steam, didn't require XBL account and reworked the UI, that's a good chunk done right there to give it a chance.

Alright, PC stuff done, on to ze blitz.

Let's start with the card system. Feck the micro-transaction card system. You can buy card packs, with RNG on what you get and a lot of game changing stuff being locked to start with. Duplicate cards will level up and make them better. It's a terrible, terrible way to do things and very P2W in the way it's presented. Need to cut this nonsense out. It's stupid.

    Moving on.

The mode itself is very unbalanced. At least in 2v2s, but it'd very easily extend to 3v3 as well. But let's get a few issues out of the way first.

    1. Energy spawns are random but determine the game. The initial spawn can all be on the other side of the map, giving your enemies an easy start and the ability to easily snowball.

    2. You can constantly see the enemy units. It's stupid. Knowing exactly where your enemy is and what he has just kills any slight chance of a bit of tactical genius.

    3. You can spawn units anywhere you can see. Just...what. The map is not that big, there's no punishment for not coming prepared since you can just spawn in units straight to the fight. Add a delay, spawn them at base only, anything really. Simple changes that add more to the game mode.

    4. There's no timer to cap a point. Get a unit in and it's yours, unless there's an enemy unit present. Really easy to stay tied for points while just having a warthog lollygagging about capping points.

Alright, let's talk about the easy win. One player just spends all the time collecting energy, the other player assembles nothing but air units. Enemy builds a really big army, begins to fight....and the energy guy clicks them out with a MAC and super laser condor. Enemy has no time to react and has to watch as their army vanishes, most of which is ineffective anyway as there's few units that can stand to an all air army. From there it's a snowball, rinse and repeat. Easy. Also, if you buy card packs you have the chance to unlock even more anti-army click powers and level up your current ones. Neat right?

Also, asking me to buy the pre-order after every match? No, go away.

I was interested in how HW2 was going to be on PC, but this really is such a terrible first impression for the game. Blitz is a terrible game mode made even worse with the pure RNG cards. How would we every find issues with Spartans if no one ever unlocks the cards? This beta really is a joke and "Oh it's all fine it's just a beta" is in no way a valid excuse for the state it's in.

I want to like HW2, I really do, but it's going to be a youtube the story game for me. Blitz just left such a bad taste. If you're looking for something with the same concept as Blitz, just play End War, on xbox and PC.

They should just go back to having it as an xbox exclusive if this is any indication of the full game.

And to end with something positive, negative and then positive again, I really like the unit designs and a lot of what they've come up with. Pelican gunships and Condors? Cool! Scorpions with bulldozers? Hell yeah! Locking them behind RNG cards?! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-URNS!

And the music, digging the music. Looking forward to listening to the OST when the game comes out.

  4. Not sure I agree with you on that one, actually. I like Marty well enough, but particularly by Halo 3 it seemed like he'd just run out of ideas and was just rehashing or outright re-using tracks from the first two games, though while I didn't really like most of the music in Reach I thought his work on ODST was incredible. A leitmotif or a theme is good, but it was starting to just feel repetitive and uninspired by the end. Not to mention that Halo 4 has one of my favourite soundtracks in any game ever: stuff like 117, Arrival, Faithless, or Green and Blue are all amazing tracks, and do a lot to breathe fresh air into a soundtrack that was starting to go stale.

I honestly don't mind reusing tracks like that, as long as it's good stuff to begin with, which most of it was. The problem I had with Halo 4's soundtrack is that it just fell into the background and was completely overshadowed by the sounds of combat. Marty was good at giving the soundtrack a commanding presence wherever it was needed, it always stuck out even in the biggest battles, adding to the experience and not getting drowned out. Halo 4 only really managed did that at the Death star run.

Reach and ODST did show he could still go in new directions with the music, Wars showed it was possible to create a good Halo OST almost completely from the ground up, but sadly Halo 4 just didn't hit the mark I think.

  5. There's a lot of good games that have come out this year, a lot being announced and beta tested, a lot of mods too. But let's focus it down for a moment and talk about one. One game that seems like such a breath of fresh air in what has probably become one of the most stale and flooded genres, the classic FPS. Technically it came out in 2015, but since nearly all of the patches and content updates have been deployed in 2016, I'm counting it.

The game is Rainbow Six: Siege.

Simple concept, a team of 5 attackers must enter a building and secure an objective against a team of 5 defenders. While it appears simple at first glance, it becomes far more complex once you factor in the games biggest strength, the environment destruction. Almost any wall and floor can be shot through and destroyed, while both teams posses plenty of tools to do so. This is hands down the most interesting aspect of the game and is something that can truly be called "innovative". Intel becomes a much bigger asset than aiming skill, attackers must plan their attack route carefully, while defenders must make a choice of where to reinforce and bunker or leave open and easily accessible. Adding on to this is the extensive amount of operators that each bring a unique ability to each side, along with unique weapons and stats.

It's a game that promotes teamwork, decision making and intel in such a simple way. It's hard to do the game justice with text, you need to play it for yourself. It's hands down one of the best MP games of the past decade. You'll never be able to play games like CS:GO and Overwatch again after getting a taste.

  6. It's a good question, but I feel it's not a question that can be summed up with yes or no.

These days, Halo means different things to different people. For me, it's the games. I absolutely love Halo CE, 2, 3, ODST and Reach. I will never get tired of playing them and they hold some of my best gaming memories. Nothing's likely to change that.

If anyone asked me if I like Halo, I would say yes and talk about those games.

But then along comes 343 and their first Halo game. I did not like Halo 4, it has very few redeeming features for me. The campaign made me not care about anyone, even making me lose interest in Cortana and Chief as characters. The soundtrack was underwhelming, the enemies were boring and the missions were not enjoyable. The multiplayer did little better, with many of their small changes changing the classic Halo gameplay in a noticeable way that I just didn't feel like I was playing Halo anymore.

Halo 5 was the first Xbone only title and I had no Xbone. I looked up the story anyways. Their advertising had got me interested, the actual story left me severely underwhelmed. They built up something they did nothing to deliver that you could nearly call false advertising at the extreme. I had many chances to play Halo 5, but I had no interest to and I don't think I will.

So if anyone asked me if I still liked Halo, I would say no and talk about those games.

Then we get to Halo Wars. It's an interesting one. Halo wars was a new take on Halo games, with a different gameplay genre and different dev team behind it. It was Halo, but it was going to do it's own thing. I like Halo Wars. I mean, I still think the actual gameplay is flawed, broken and just downright bad as an RTS, but I still have fun every time I play it. I like the characters, the story, the setting and the soundtrack. It was far different than what had come before, yet it can still stand up tall and call itself Halo and it would have a far better claim than 343's two entries into the setting.

HW is a game that shows there's potential for expansion in the Halo universe. There's still so much that could be done. Halo Wars 2 is going to decide for me if Halo is a name worth sticking around for, or abandoning all together and leaving with only the treasures of the past to enjoy.

    I like what Halo was.

    I dislike what Halo is.

I like what Halo can become.

  7. 1. The Needler. Enough said.

    2. Thunder Hammer from Space Marine. Enough said.

    3. M63 from MGS3. The roar when firing it really sold it.

    4. A very recent entry, the Assault cannon from Deathwing. The sound, carnage and death unleashed by this weapon is just pure bliss.

    5. Chrysamere from Morrowind. Nothing flashy about it, but that blade was with me for some of my best gaming memories.

  8. Best memories have to be doing the vidmasters. It was mental fun. Halo's prime time, staying up til late into the morning with random people you met online just to do beat Endure or Halo 3 using ghosts. And from there it was a solid group of people for the brilliant custom game lobbies.

As for the state of Halo, I have no love for 343, I severely dislike the direction they've taken Halo and I do think that Halo has been knocked off it's throne hard due to it. I'm disappointed by both the story and multiplayer of Halo 4 and 5.

For next week's poll, maybe something simple from each the games? Like favourite weapon or such. It's probably been done before, but I'd say it's a good time to bring it back up.
