Battlefield 2042 will bring the long-running franchise to a new scale, and for players, that means getting access to characters with their own abilities. Named Specialists, each comes with their own passive and active ability, as well as a certain combat role that they're oriented towards. They're a means by which players can approach the battlefield in a different way, with no two Specialists being alike.

That being said, the game's Specialists can be broken up into groups. Each has abilities that push players towards a certain archetypical Battlefield playstyle, whether that's assault, engineer, support, or recon. With the game's fluidity for loadouts, they're how players will further specialize their classes.

At launch, Battlefield 2042 will have 10 Specialists, although more will be added to the game post-launch. A full list breaking down the game's list of Specialists can be found below. Battlefield 2042 is launching on November 19 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Kimble "Irish" Graves

Kimble "Irish" Graves

Irish, who is returning to the Battlefield franchise after first appearing in Battlefield 4, is one of the game's more offensive-based support characters. His abilities place him on the front line of any fight, where his abilities can be used to their best extent.

Passive Ability: Irish enters the battlefield armored, and replenishes his armor by taking out enemies.

Active Ability: Irish can put down a deployable cover system that protects against bullets, explosives, and explosive projectiles.

Webster Mackay

Webster Mackay

Every game is better once you introduce a grappling hook, and Mackay brings that movement option to Battlefield. Mackay doesn't make for a great team player, as his skill set is focused around movement, but thoughtful players can use his abilities to flank enemies and cause some serious damage.

Passive Ability: Mackayu moves faster while aiming down sights.

Active Ability: Mackay can fire a grappling hook. The hook attaches to almost any surface in the game and can even be used to kill players.

Maria Falck

Maria Falck

Falck is Battlefield 2042's main healer Specialist, with both of her abilities meant to keep players from dying or bring them back into the fight at full capacity. Players who pick Falck have to be ready to focus on their own teammates more than enemies.

Passive Ability: Falck can revive allies at full health. Players revived by other Specialists will only have 50% of their health.

Active Ability: Falck has a syrette pistol that can heal friendlies from a distance or be used offensively in a pinch. Players can also use the pistol to heal themselves.

Pyotr "Boris" Guskovsky

Pyotr "Boris" Guskovsky

Boris is best used when players have a point they need to defend. While his skillset could be used when advancing on an enemy position, he's at his strongest when players can hunker down and defend against enemies.

Passive Ability: Enemies who are targeted by Boris' sentry gun are spotted, revealing their positions on the map.

Active Ability: Boris can put down a sentry gun that automatically targets enemies inside of its range.

Wikus "Casper" Van Daele

Wikus "Casper" Van Daele

Battlefield games always give snipers their opportunity to shine, and Casper will likely be their character of choice. The ghillie-suited Specialist is meant to hang back from the front, sniping enemies from his own perch.

Passive Ability: Casper has a motion sensor that alerts players when enemies are approaching. This makes it hard to get a drop on Casper, even if he's looking through the scope of a rifle.

Active Ability: Casper can deploy a recon drone that can disorient enemies or temporarily disable enemy vehicles with an EMP blast.

Navin Rao

Navin Rao

Being set in the not-so-far-off future, one of Battlefield 2042's Specialists is naturally a master hacker. Rao is a technical character who fits in anywhere in a battle thanks to the information he gives teammates.

Passive Ability: Rao can hack enemies and then take them down to reveal other enemies in the surrounding area for his team.

Active Ability: Using a small wrist computer, Rao can hack vehicle systems, robots, and different elements in each level.

Santiago "Dozer" Espinoza

Santiago "Dozer" Espinoza

Dozer is, as his name implies, a tank. He's meant for the front lines of any big push, soaking up as much damage as he can so other teammates can proceed towards an objective.

Passive Ability: Dozer takes less damage from explosives.

Active Ability: Dozer comes equipped with a ballistic shield that, besides protecting him from incoming fire, can be used as a battering ram.

Emma "Sundance" Rosier

Emma "Sundance" Rosier

When Battlefield 2042 was first revealed, players were excited by the prospect of being able to fly around maps in a wingsuit. However, along with a wingsuit, Sundance can challenge groups of enemies and even vehicles, making her a capable Specialist for solo players.

Passive Ability: Sundance can deploy a wingsuit instead of a parachute.

Active Ability: Sundance has smart grenades which come in three flavors: scatter grenades break up into smaller explosives, micro drones attack specific targets, and anti-armor grenades can deal solid damage to vehicles.

Constantin "Angel" Anghel

Constantin "Angel" Anghel

As the situation on a battlefield evolves, players will likely find that their current loadout isn't fitting for the situation. That's where Angel comes into play, letting groups of players pick out another kit after deploying, giving squads with this Specialist an enormous amount of versatility.

Passive Ability: Allies revived by Angel return to the battle with all of their armor.

Active Ability: Angel can call down a loadout crate that refills allies' armor and ammo, and lets them quickly change loadouts.

Ji-Soo Paik

Ji-Soo Paik

Paik is another Specialist who belongs on the frontlines of any battle, although she operates better in closed spaces. Her abilities, which reveal enemy positions for herself and teammates, mean that no enemy can stay hidden for long when she's around.

Passive Ability: Enemies who hurt Paik will automatically be spotted.

Active Ability: Paik can use a scanner that makes enemies visible through walls.
