NetEase Games has announced that it is acquiring Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio known for games such as No More Heroes, Lollipop Chainsaw, and killer7. Grasshopper celebrated its 23rd anniversary this past March, and now the studio is moving forward to explore creative endeavors with NetEase.

"NetEase Games understands the strengths of Grasshopper Manufacture Inc. and is willing to support us, and is an extremely reliable partner. NetEase Games will be mainly responsible for advising on our business planning activities and providing sufficient funding for game development," wrote Grasshopper CEO Goichi Suda in a statement.

The studio is making sure to retain its unique "Grasshopper Manufacture flavor" and quality, striving to release three additional games within the next decade. NetEase will also provide strong support in terms of art and quality assurance.

"NetEase is honored to be the companion of Mr. Suda and Grasshopper Manufacture Inc. on this new journey into the future," the company wrote in a statement. "We hope to give the studio creative freedom and sufficient resource support in order to empower said studio to create even more sensational works for gamers worldwide."

Grasshopper Manufacture's latest release, No More Heroes III, launched in August for Nintendo Switch. In GameSpot's No More Heroes III review, Richard Wakeling said, "After an 11-year wait, maybe No More Heroes 3 was always destined to fall short of our expectations. But to end without so much as a touchdown is a mighty disappointment."
