Halo 4 details coming 29th February

343 shooter to premiere at Microsoft Spring Showcase

There's light at the end of the tunnel, Master Chief. Let's hope it's not an oncoming Wraith. Microsoft will reportedly show off Halo 4 properly for the first time at its Spring Showcase in San Francisco on 29th February.

The news comes via Finnish mag Pelaaja (thanks Gamerzines), which also promises further details in a podcast around the time.

Till then, you'll have to mak

e do with our sprawling Halo 4 breakdown, which painstakingly examines each and every Halo-related 343 utterance or lore permutation. We spent a long time writing that. Don't everybody hug us at once.

Did you know that Todd McFarlane'sdesigning toys

based on unseen Halo 4 characters? Now you do. Look out for more on that front in August. In what seems to be a calculated effort to kill our brains with buzzwords, McFarlane says 343 is "pushing the envelope with the visuals, storytelling and gameplay".

Halo 4 is scribbled in for release late this year.

Halo 4 is set to be more formally unveiled at the end of February at a Microsoft Xbox showcase, according to Finnish magazine Pelaaja.

There’s been something of a dearth of Halo 4 news since its announcement last year. But now, if one report is to be believed, the silence could be broken. Microsoft is set to hold its Spring Xbox Showcase in San Francisco at the end of this month, and Halo 4 will be taking centre stage, according to Finnish mag Pelaaja.

It’s only a small report – posted on Twitter – but as part of a larger feature it seems to suggest that Halo 4 is gearing up for a big reveal on February 29th. The rumour comes as Halo creators Bungieannounce that they will formally hand over the reigns to 343 Studios - developers of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and, now, Halo 4 – at the end of March.

New Halo 4 info coming this month?

New details on Halo 4 may be revealed this month, according to a report in a Finnish games magazine.

According to Finnish magazine Pelaaja - and spotted by NeoGAF - Halo 4 will be shown at a Microsoft Spring Showcase due to be held in San Francisco on February 29th.

The magazine reminds readers to listen to its podcast around the time for new details.

Halo 4 was first announced by Microsoft at E3 last year, but has since gone into hiding. The game is the first in the series to be developed by 343 Industries rather than Halo creator Bungie.

Not much is known about it other than that it reintroduces Master Chief and AI companion Cortana, and will form the first part of a new Halo trilogy.

The game is due for release exclusively on Xbox 360 this 'Holiday'

Halo 4 playable at Xbox Spring Showcase?

Rumours suggest Halo 4 will see its first proper unveiling at an Xbox press event at the end of the month, although Microsoft is confirming nothing.

Halo 4 - Cortana and the Chief have been gone a long time

Microsoft's new first person shooter sequel was first unveiled at E3 2011 last June, although the

teaser trailer didn't really reveal very much. Since then all we've had is a few vague looking bits of concept art and the revelation that the game will be part of a new 'Reclaimer Trilogy'.

According to Finnish magazine Pelaaja though the new game will be shown at the Xbox Spring Showcase event, due to take place in San Francisco from February 29 (but with a news embargo dated to March 5).

The implication from the magazine is that gameplay footage will be shown and that it may even be playable (although possibly only by the developers). Microsoft however, has issued only a stock 'no comment' response to the rumours.

Since it's E3 unveiling Halo 4 has had quite a torrid time of it, with its creative director quitting the project because of a 'lack of excitement'. Microsoft was then forced to deny rumours that Halo 4 was secretly an Xbox 720 launch title (a denial which most observers now agree is probably accurate).

And then just recently Microsoft had to warn that emails and websites purporting to be for a public beta of the game were in fact

phishing scams, and nothing to do with the game at all.

Halo 4 is an important one to get right for Microsoft as it's the first not to be developed by series creators Bungie, who are now an independent studio again and making a multiformat game with Activision. Instead Halo 4 will be the first all-new game from developer 343 Industries, who have previously only worked on last year's Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.

There’s an extra day in February this year, and Microsoft will apparently capitalize on that extra time as the date for which the next iteration of Halo will be revealed. Halo 4 will be the focus of a company ‘Spring Showcase’ event, according to translations of a Finnish magazine. The game was announced in a very brief manner at last year’s E3, but this event will reportedly give a much more complete look.

Despite its name, Halo 4 will be the eighth title in the Halo franchise, but it will pick up with the legacy that Halo 3 left. There had been speculation before E3 that Halo 4 would be developed for the Xbox 720 (or whatever the next Xbox happens to be called), but those rumors were quickly quashed. As far as game mechanics are concerned, players will once again actually play as Master Chief.

The official description of the game is as follows: “Set in the aftermath of Halo 3, Master Chief returns to confront his own destiny and face an ancient evil that threatens the fate of the entire universe. Halo 4 marks the start of a new trilogy that begins with its release in 2012.” Previous reports have pegged the game’s target launch window at the holiday season at the end of this year.

Well due to the embargo, like SuperIntendant said, its really gonna be a little more than a week

Thanks for noticing that :) it is VERY IMPORTANT that you guys remember the embargo, I don't want to see anyone disappointed that there isn't any info on the 29th. March 5th is the soonest possible day that we can get info!
