Today, at the Windows 10 Press Conference, Microsoft helmed a reveal of some of Windows 10's features. I'll be quoting Gamespot for most of this:

Windows 10

- Devices running Windows 8.1, or Windows 7 will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free for the first 12 months after it launches. It's assumed after the 12 months are over you will need to pay to continue using it

- The browser codenamed "Project Spartan" will ship with Windows 10 later this year

  • Depending on the device used, the new browser allows users to annotate web pages using things like a stylus, mouse, or their fingers
  • Snippets of web pages can also be shared
  • There's a new reading mode that appears to strip out display advertisements

- Cortana will be on Windows 10

  • It can fetch net-based data such as web results and weather reports
  • Voice commands can tell Cortana to queue things, like music, or emails
  • It will apparently be available in 7 different languages at launch
  • Supposedly, Cortana is integrated with the Spartan Web Browser

Gaming & Xbox

- There will be an Xbox App for Windows 10.

  • The App will show all the games you've played across Xbox and PC devices
  • It's similar to SmartGlass, as you can access messages, notifications, friends, achievements, and view Game DVR clips
  • Game footage can be recorded using a Game DVR for Windows 10

- Windows 10 can run Steam

- There will be universal Windows 10 apps that can work on Xbox One

- Gamespot states that Windows 10 OS will be integrated into Xbox One in the future. Phil Spencer insisted that the platform won't be compromised by "enterprise-centric" and desktop-focused applications, "We won't see people using Excel on the Xbox, but Microsoft is making it easier to port experiences from PC over to Xbox where they make sense. We'll treat gaming on Windows 10 with the same passion as we've put into the Xbox console."

- Cross-Play-Functionality will be available for some games, like Fable Legends. What that means is that people on PC can play with people on Xbox One (so long as they have Windows 10).

- Windows 10 can stream Xbox One games

  • Once you sync your Xbox to the Tablet, or PC that's running Windows 10 (and quite possibly Windows Phones in the future), you will be able to stream games, such as the console exclusive Forza Horizon 2

Windows Holographic

- The "HoloLens" is a stand-alone device doesn't need a PC, or Phone to use it

  • "It's the most advanced holographic computer the world has ever seen", Microsoft says.

  • It's untethered, and doesn't need a wire to run

  • Features see-through HD Holographics

  • Includes spatial sound to emulate a surrounding environment

  • Contains sensors that capture environment information, and a built in CPU, and GPU

  • A third processor, dubbed the "HPU" or Holographic Processing Unit, "-gives us the ability to understand where you're looking, to understand your gestures, to understand your voice, to spatially map your environment, to run without wires ... all in real-time.", as stated by Microsoft

  • Gamespot notes that the device doesn't really seem to be competitive with VR due to the fact that a Microsoft Representative said, "Oculus, Magic Leap, Glass developers and everyone else, we humbly invite you--come create holograms with us,"

- How HoloLens is supposed to work with Windows 10 is currently unknown
