Family sharing was a timed demo system.

UPDATE http://www.343industries.org/forum/topic/29631-the-family-sharing-was-not-a-demo-system-after-all/?do=findComment&comment=269643

With the big news announced by microsoft on them taking a u-turn on their policies some of their features that were meant to be implemented had to be removed due to this decision. One of those features was Family Sharing, a feature many thought was to be very useful and were keen to use. Sharing games with friends on Xbox all over the world with just a push of a few buttons.

But there were fans who didn't care about the implementation of the used games policy and were very happy and keen to for the family sharing feature and with the backtrack of the policies those fans were not happy about the loss of this feature.

Getting to play games that friends can share with you digitally from a different part of the world seemed pretty cool. But we didn't realize the family sharing feature only shared a portion of the game to his/her's selected friend. It was just a demo.

After the big news a microsoft employee gives his thoughts and explain the proper nature of this feature.

"When your family member accesses any of your games, they’re placed into a special demo mode. This demo mode in most cases would be the full game with a 15-45 minute timer and in some cases an hour."

"This allowed the person to play the game, get familiar with it then make a purchase if they wanted to. When the time limit was up they would automatically be prompted to the Marketplace so that they may order it if liked the game."

Is seems clear now why Microsoft never flaunted this feature about too much and did it come as a big loss as some fans may have felt?

There really isnt anything that the xbox one is impressing me with.

And to be honest, I think MS is just desperately lying to get their fans back. I seriously doubt that they would reverse their plans for xbox one just for their fans, from the bottom of their heart. Like really, MS has never really be the generous kind, so what makes people think their going to start now?

But either way, I am getting a PS4. Actually, I may be getting 3 PS4's.

In total, I will be getting 3 PS4's, 1 3DS XL, and 1 Wii U. Plus the games for them all.  Thats roughly $1,500 thats not going to MS over time. Yes over time, cause its going to take me a little bit to save up for all of that.

This is a little cool but ultimately it sucks. What I really want to know is "Will I be able to give a game to my friend to let him play it if I give him the disc?"

They did answer that when they reversed the DRM policies.  Yes, that is how the trading policy now works, as it always has.

Why three PS4s

One for my hubby, one for my father in law, and one for myself. We all like playing games, and we all have different taste in games, and we're always bored out of our minds because we live in the middle of nowhere. lol

You know something? This is one of the worst things I've read all day and it's pretty much the final nail in the coffin for Microsoft's reputation as far as I'm concerned.

I think I've made enough criticisms of the Xbox One thus far that most people will know where I stand. For those who don't, I wasn't impressed at all with the used game blocking, lack of backwards compatibility, always online and mandatory Kinect. I wasn't exactly quiet or subtle about expressing my disfavour for it either. But I like to think that, if nothing else, I was at least trying to be unbiased. I was quite happy to give praise to the family sharing system because it looked like a genuinely great idea that would actually make it much easier for families to afford new games, rather than needing a separate copy for every Xbox in the home. Plus it would be great to be able to share games with my brother even when we're in different cities, as comes with being a student.

And now it turns out that one of the only things I thought worth defending, that I was actually disappointed to see be lost in the policy changes, was actually just a lie all along. That's what we do now, is it Microsoft? We not only design a console without bothering to look at what people actually want from it beforehand, but then try to sell it with half-truths and twisted facts? If your intention was to destroy eleven years' worth of trust, the congratulations. I was going to give you credit for the policy change at least, but after reading this, I just can't make myself do it. You've been lying to us and dismissing our concerns for the best part of a month now and we're supposed to suddenly flock back to you again, arms outstretched in forgiveness just because you made some concessions to us motivated only by the knowledge that it would be the only way you'd actually make a profit on this thing?

My response, to paraphrase a great man, is simple: fornicate yonder.

I'll be honest I think it was a huge let down. But I think it was just better than having the game only available on you're profile. Plus it would've brought that member into the fray to try new games like the ones you play.

15 minutes or so of a game isn't enough to judge it family sharing I think is kinda pointless
