On my last tour before i came home for the holidays, we got in a firefight ( area classifid ) but as we were running to get out of the area my friend was hit in the leg so the medic pick him up and we ran about another 80 yards to the L-Z. So on the ride back to base ( Base Classifid ) the medic was stoping the bleeding, so when we landed on base the doc had him put in the ER on base. ( hours later ) The Doc said he was doing better but a 50-50 chance of living. ( the next day ) They sent me home for the holidays. I was spending time with EVERYONE having a great time. ( Just two days ago ) I got a call from my buddys family saying he has pasted away, I tryed not to cry but i could not help it. But i tolded his Mother and Father that he fought hard and was a GREAT Solider. His Mom and Dad thanked me for what i do and how I'm a hero, I told them " I'm no hero your son is". You fought well for your country, rest in piece Airman Ortiz. I feel as if this affects me, as I've grown up in a Military family. I try my best every time I see somebody serving to tell them just how thankful I really am for their service and sacrifice to keep this wonderful country safe from harm. This man gave the ultimate sacrifice and for that we can honor him as a hero. All of the thanks in the world would not be enough to show our true appreciation for what our men in uniform are currently doing out there... but it's a start.
