Halo 4- Value Is Reassured

Ok so over the past thre to maybe four weeks I have been seeing a rediculouse ammount of threads about "oh the horror, halo 4 LE is no longer worth it". Well I have created this thread to give us some clarity on what has and has not been announced by 343i and I hope that this CAN answer all of your questions about "what are we actually geting" and is it still worth it for LE buyers like myself.

Well, what are we getting?-

Ingame Stuff and Goodies

  1. War games map pass- I have seen a lot of confusion recently about the war games map pass and whether or not the standalone is the only one that comes with the Strider and Scanner helmets. I am very very pleased to confirm that the War games map pass that comes with the LE also comes with the two helmets just like the standalone pass. Dont believe me?, here: "In an effort to aid completionists in their quest for collecting as many items as possible, we wanted to include the in-game content in BOTH versions. Now that the “I”s are dotted and the “T”s are crossed, we can finally confirm that the LE War Games Map Pass and the standalone War Games Map Pass both come with two bonus in-game helmets (Scanner and Strider), as well as a unique in-game emblem (Falcon). We’re also excited to reveal the specifics of the three map packs included in the Map Pass"- Halo waypoint 25.10.12
  2. Specializations Early Access- Unfortunantly 343i HAS announced that our early access to the specializations is no longer exclusive to us LE buyers, the stand alone players who play before Nov 20th (about 99.9999%) will also have access to the specializations.
  3. Recruit Armour- I have heard a lot about the recruit armour no longer being exclusive to us LE buyers, apparently 343i has now replaced the Warrior armour with the Recruit armour as the new starting armour, I personally dont believe that this is true and have not seen anything about this on twitter, waypoint or anywhere else, A rumour perhaps?.

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn

  1. It HAS been confirmed by 343i that the LE of H4FUD will be streamed through waypoint and not included as a disk, personally I am not overly surprised, as they taught me in school, "it it sounds too good to be true it probably is", I am not angry with 343i for doing this but what does upset me a little is how it was never stated outright that it would be a disk. But still they could have communicated just a little better.

My view/ Is it still worth buying the LE?

Yeah look, Im going to have to say that the LE is still worth buying. I will NEVER cancel my preorders to any Halo games becuase my preorder is all about this- "I would like to preorder the LE of Halo x and pay a bit extra becuase I want to go that bit further and show my added support for the halo series, its not about what you get but about me saying here have this bit extra to make the next game better"

If you have any more questions about the Halo 4 release please just post them in this thread and I will try to get the info out of 343i and answer your questions.

Nice, very informative information. Although most of our members know this already, it's good to have all these confirmed details in 1 post. Thanks.

I would also like to point out, a while ago when 343i announced FUD would be in the LE, they said the LE get exclusive bonus 1 or 2 episodes. I'm sure I heard this somewhere. Someone please confirm.

We are getting exclusive additional footage in the LE. Also, I somewhat agree with OP. I will get LE because I want to support Halo, but in my opinion it could have a bit more exclusive content to be worth all of the money we're paying for it.

Working a minimum wage job and looking at the LE, I cannot justify spending $100 on it. I'll tell you how I show my support instead, since I'm not able to spend that much all at once. In my life, I have only preordered two games. These two games are Halo: Anniversary and Halo 4. Usually, I won't buy a game when it first comes out. Instead, I will wait until the price drops or I can find it used on Amazon or at a local video game store for a good price. So, by preordering both games, and being willing to pay the full retail price for them, I am showing my support. Most video games are not worth it to me. Halo has always been that exception from the first day I played it.

So wait... The Map pass is included in the LE? If so isn't that worth it right there?

Sounds good to me IMO. I don't like that I have to get Forward Unto Dawn through waypoint. I want to be able to download it at 1080p and have it as a file at the very least...

I knew it wasn't going to be on a blu-ray that's for sure :P

Well, see, I think you're missing the perspective here.

Yes, if I had the choice of simply getting the standard version or the more "Halo-y" version, I'd go with "Halo-y," but that being said, now that I'm in college and have to pay for my own things, I'm forced into a more realistic perspective. I'd love to get the LE, I honestly would, and I probably could afford it the day it comes out, but I just simply can't spend that much money for such little content. While there is a lot to offer, it's still going to be available (most if not all) later, and some are already free online (FUD). And even though there might be bonus episodes in the LE, you can still see them online eventually. Getting things on the internet takes 2 seconds. If it wasn't all online in the first place, maybe it'd be worth it to get the full edition.

The FUD doesnt even make sense to me... You're not really getting a Halo memorable, because it's already free in great quality online as we speak. There's a difference between getting an art book that is also viewable online and a web series that you get to watch online regardless.

But all in all, the only thing that really made me want the LE was the map pass, but I wasn't really seeing the value in that, because it's much harder to drop $100 in one sitting than it is to just spend an extra 5 or 10 bucks over the course of several months.

So my verdict is, personally, that if you have the money and stability to drop $100 on a game that, although doesn't provide much monetary value, still gives you the (technically) 100% Halo 4 experience, then go for it. But for those who are money savers, might want to skip out on this one.

But you see, that's the glory of it all. 343 already said that they didn't want to make some huge must-have Halo 4 edition (like legendary), they wanted people to make a clear decision between a little more or a little less. And I think you're just noticing more of the "no" side now because people have a much clearer choice this time around. Most other Halo collector editions have memorable things like statues or art books or what have you, while this one just provides early access stuff and skins and w/e.

But, that's my say..

So wait... The Map pass is included in the LE? If so isn't that worth it right there?

Sounds good to me IMO.

Yes, however, the map pass is also available for purchase with the standard edition of the game day one for 25 bucks, only 5 bucks more, which in the long run would save you from buying a $100 game if you're only interested in the map pass.
