  1. As the new Year has come, it is time to see which member has out shun the rest to cap off a great year of 2013. This member I'm about to announce has made a massive reputation for himself as the little yellow ninja ball as I like to think of him. That's right, leading the Ninja's he has, the January MoM of 2014 is !!!Onsokumaru!!! In the few months he has been onboard, he has made quite the impact on the forums, with the Ninja playdates he runs, the great humour he brings to the forums and the insanity of the .gif files he posts, it was only a matter of time for when he would be honoured with such a title. Congratulations Onsokumaru, we hope you keep up your cheerful character in the forums during this great way of kickstarting the new year!
  2. As the leaves fall and Halloween passes, ('cept for you southern hemisphere types, but you've got it all backwards) we look to a new month, a new MoM. This is the month of Thanksgiving, the calm before the storm, the anchoring up shelter for the fast approaching winter. This month we have a member that is fairly new. But he has warmed the hearts (and other...parts...also perhaps types of bread) of the members and has made many good friends. A regular in the ShoutBox, he never hesitates to offer sage advice, crack jokes, or just be an all around funny guy. Master of video editing, and capture man extraordinaire, we present to you... Bnus!!! We hope you enjoy your month in the tried and true Minus Green Bnus! Keep doin' what you're doin'!!!
  3. WoW, MoM I'm surprised that this would be the month I become MoM. Last year, this month, was a very active time for the forum, with tons of playdates and lots of members on all of the time. I was very active, and that's when I knew the greatness our forum can pull off. We also had a forge contest, and there were submissions, but no one knows what happened to that... Reading through older MoM posts, I reliezed that many thank certain people, a group, talk about joining, they ramble, or just self indulge about themselves. They also make mention that they were reading old MoM threads. I tried to hit all of the above standards, but I felt it was too repetitive and knowing that if I did, I'd leave someone out, SO, you know who you are if you have my thanks. I feel like I never talk a lot about myself, so, here goes: I'm MoM for August of 2013 I joined this site of April 14, 2012 I enjoy Halo My gamertag is Sikslik7, so stop asking for it! My gamertag is based off my last name, and was going to be Sikslik6, but none of my friends could say it I enjoy playing older GameCube, Gameboy, and PC games I am an Eagle Scout I play a variety of sports with my friends every once in a while, and go camping once a month I work too much in school and at work I do really well in school I enjoy lots of older movies (80's 90's) I read a lot, and my current favorite book series is "A Song of Fire and Ice" My favorite author is Eoin Colfer Other stuff about me, that I'm too lazy to put up..... My wisdom that I impart to you all: The forum can be awesome if you want it to. Be cool, don't get overly upset. Be nice, and you'll be treated nice. Don't seclude yourself in one area of the forums or with a certain group of people, your ideas can make the forum better in more places than one. Try to go to playdates, and if you can't, try to make yourself available to other members online once a week. Get on the forums, it sucks to get on and find that no one has been on in an hour. Invest some time into the forums and various things on the forums, and you'll enjoy yourself so much more. Finally, I am getting the Community Forge Project going again, and have plans to make something very unique to the forums, which may just end up in a contest full of fabulous prizes. I'm getting ahead of myself though, as the forging still needs to be done! Even if you suck at forging, come by, and we'll help get you going. Learning some of the basics to forge is the hardest part. Seeing the basics while it is being done helps so much. Many hammers will be needed before the contest can begin, but it is one where you'll all love the contest, as it will be unique. V Link to CFP in my Signature V And thanks guys, I hope this August will exceed the epicness of last August, and it looks like it already plans to be better is every single way! Go make it happen!
  4. Being named "Member of the Month" Is an honor. I'm very grateful to receive this respectable title. Also the pInk text is awesome . I don't want to gloat or go on an epic monologue, so I would like to give a few shout-outs. I want to thank Dizzy_Dan from the newsgroup. He conducts interviews with members of the community and recently did one with me . He was very patient with me and my delayed(sometimes silly) answers. He also has been a huge help coordinating events and providing insightful feedback on maps I want to thank Absolute Dog. He has been very helpful and accommodating to THFE, and our slow(but sure) transition to 343i. He has helped keep the forums safe and clean for all. I would like to thank the forgers/players for participating in the weekly "Tuesday Night Tests". It has been a blast testing all of the new maps and working with new forgers. I would also like to thank the forgers for submitting and providing feedback in the THFE submissions section. The continued support is fantastic. Thanks for reading. I hope i can be a good Mom while it lasts.
  5. Well friends, here it is. I've been here a while. I've seen members come and go, made friends here and enemies there, but I have enjoyed it here. I am a longstanding member, and I'm proud of it. And before I go any further, no I'm not leaving the site, this is something that I want to leave you with after my MoM month. And speaking of people leaving, that seems to have been happening a lot lately, and it saddens me. Members who have been longstanding members such as me, or ones who were new, but quickly found a place here, only to be turned aside by petty differences, or ones who caused trouble and have paid the price. But we have too. This forum used to be a place for fun, for friendship, and above all, for Halo. Posting was something that we put meaning into, not just put a brief message so we could have a petty hop-up by achieving the status of a Trusted or Dedicated member, to become Purple or Light Gray to lord it over their fellow members. We would put our all into it, nothing held back. I myself barely reached Purple immediately before I became MoM. There was none of the ranting, none of the complaining, people were here because they wanted to be here, not because they had something against us. And we have suffered greatly from these evils coming into the forum, obliterating its purity and bringing it to face cold harsh reality. But we cannot blame the people who brought it to us. We cannot blame the Mods, the Staff, Twam, we cannot even blame ourselves. In this world there is much that is wrong, but we can't change that. We can only make ourselves the best we can be. And the Mods, the Staff, and Twam put their every ounce into this site. We have heard them cry out to us that there is only so much they can take. They beg us day by day to respect the site like they do, to make of it what they have, to uphold the virtues and standards that they have worked so hard to put in place. We can have nothing but respect for them. I know that no matter what, they will do what is right for the forum. Should we aspire to be any less great of character? We complain of degradation, harkening back to the "good old days". But those days are over. We are the ones who create the future of the site. New, up and coming, untried and unbroken members. We were once like them. And now they are our future.
  6. Well...what to write... I'd like to start out with a brief synopsis of my time here as a member. I first joined the forum in July of 2011. My name was Halo g33k. I believe that there was no shoutbox at that point, but don't remember what the site background was. I didn't really post much, just liked different stuff, and got to know a few different members, namely Absolute Dog, DocSpartanO07, then TxSpartanO07 (I believe) and The Director. I didn't have an xbox at that point, but I did have a gamertag and would play Halo whenever I could borrow (or more adequately hog) my friend's 360. I had been playing Halo for years, but I really got into it around then. When the shoutbox came around, I became an avid member there. But then, in January of 2012, I logged on and found that my profile had been deleted...I still have no idea why. I made another profile with the same name, but soon changed it to Private Church after I got my RoosterTeeth internship. I had many other name changes, none by me, soon after, when AD decided to have some fun with his Mod privileges...I have one minute of fame as Absolute Dog2. But my all-time favorite was Little Lord Fuantleroy! I have been a slow poster, not even breaking the green until recently. I have tried to put meaning into my posts, and to be as helpful as possible. I really love the shoutbox, the opportunities to develop relationships, and to get to know others. I took about a month long break from the forum when Halo 4 came out, because of the chaos that it brought. When I came back, I was shocked that many members who I had been good friends with had officially left, been banned, or simply were gone, no explanation. And there was the tidal flood of members who all had complaints of some kind, or were "good" members for a while, then burned out, some causing trouble and getting banned. But there are several who are still around today, and putting good into the forum. But around the same time, this forum suffered a loss like no other. Spectral Jester, long time moderator of the forum, resigned from his position, taking his place along with other Legendary members. This hit a lot of members quite hard, including me. But Absolute Dog is doing a fantastic job of running the forum, and Spectral Jester is still here, ready to give advice, and act as a normal member. Well...more like not so brief. So here's the basics: My favorite color is blue, my favorite number is 13. I was born on Friday the 13th, and in the thirteenth month if you use the ancient Roman calendar. So superstitious people might wanna steer clear of me . I enjoy theater, I am currently involved in a production called, "Bye Bye Birdie", one of the dumbest musicals I have EVER seen. Members that I can definitely say have meant a lot to me, and have all been part of the stepping stones to me getting here are listed below. If I have stepped on you and you are not in this list, please PM me at once . Absolute Dog Spectral Jester Donut ZB-85 DocSpartanO07 The Director Choot 'em RedStarRocket91 Total Mayh3m GSD Azaxx SykoWolf AshyAngel LiQuid BioniX I know there are more, but I could list members for days and make no progress. The point is that I love all you guys, and am so happy to get this privilege, and will do my best to be a good representative of the forum as the Member of the Month. Thank you all of you, and to all of you goes out my  s! I was honestly not expecting to get this awesome title, and I scared the shenanigans out of my mom when I logged onto the forum on my phone and literally jumped out of my chair cheering when I found out! And finally...yes I HAD to do this....
  7. Well then it's the first of a new month so it's time again to reveal the next MoM, now you've probably seen this member in shout talking and having fun, or you may have read one of his great posts recently, now im proud to introduce the January Member of the Month SykoWolf so congrats to Syko on MoM he deserves it
  8. Alright, so as we all know. December 31st is Zelda's last day as being Member of the Month (MoM). So lets all give her a big hug and thanks for being such a great MoM during the down times, and during the worst month November 2012. Which was the release month of Halo 4 and the spec codes. I'd like to thank you first Zelda. @Zelda Thank You.
  9. it's time again to announce the next Member of the Month, you may seen this member in shout helping people, keeping everything calm and just being a nice person and great member, so without further adieu the December Member of the Month is...... Zelda!!! So Congratulations to Zelda she totally deserves this honor!
  10. HiHi, everyone~ I'm happy to receive the title of "MOM" for the month of August, 2012~! Let me start off by thanking anyone and everyone who has ever done something for me, no matter how big or small. Thank you to those who put their trust in me and who believed me to deserve the title. Thank you to everyone who has been here for me. You all know who you are. I'll do my best not to let anyone down. In the time I've been a part of this website I've seen some pretty interesting people come and go. We've had great members stick with us, while those who have chosen to create problems and cause drama have been removed from our wonderful community. It's a bit strange seeing some members, who I remember when they first joined ( I'm not old, shut up! D: ), now becoming senior members themselves. I can say though that I'm happy with how most, if not all, of us have grown and matured in our time here. It's a very nice thing to see. Though I have become MOM, I still don't feel like I've done enough for this website. I do very much enjoy reporting anything that needs attention, helping to keep the shoutbox inline, and helping members out when I can, but I still want to help more and more. This website and community has provided me with so much news and entertainment that I want to do whatever I can to help make it a better place for all. Thank you, everyone, for accepting me as this month's MOM and for feeling I deserve it. ~ CandiBunni
  11. The State of the Forum Address Good evening 343i.org. This is your president typing. I come before you today to address the state of the unio... forum. On the whole, I'd say we are doing great. We have tons of new members, a site format that is awesome, and a bunch of features that the other Halo forums could only dream of having. We have some of the finest members that we've had in a while, some of the nicest moderators in the history of forum mods, and have completely obliterated the spambots, with the exception of one or two here and there. The environment of the forum is one of fun, rather than one of frustration like previous Halo related forums. A lot of our members came here not realizing that this was a community forum, but stayed because of how friendly the people here are. I have to say, we are doing pretty good for ourselves. Before I go on to how we can improve ourselves this upcoming term, and my part in it, let's have a little review of the goings on in the history of the forum. At first, there was darkness. No, really, the site format used to be really dark. It was black and green, like the original X-Box. Then there was light. The newer format was a white one. Similar to that of the mobile site. With this new format, though, came war. War like we had never experienced before. This was known as the "Pre-Captcha War". Spectral Jester still has flashbacks of this terrible war. Seemingly endless waves of spambots and trolls attacked our forum. We as members could do little to help except call-outs as they appeared and tried to get us to buy phallic growth pills and pirated goods and infect us with spyware. This was a time of great stress on our moderating team, and important posts were quickly buried by bots spamming their illicit goods. Even the shoutbox wasn't safe, as trolls were ban-evading and harassing our members. We lost a lot of good people to this. The came the golden age of "Big Blue", which is the format we use now. With Big Blue came a captcha, which allowed the moderators a bit of respite against the spambots and allowed them to focus on new and creative bans for the trolls. This effectively ended the "Pre-Captcha War" and brought peace to the forum once again. We are now living in a Golden Age my fellow members. Together, we must make sure that we make this Golden Age last as long as possible. We must strive together as a community to make sure that we welcome new members and help them become great alongside us. We must be sure to learn and abide by the rules of the forum and to help others to learn and abide by them as well. No more double posting. No more team spamming. No more trolling. No more should we see the same post rehashed by others and posted again just to increase one's post count. This is what we must do to make sure that our forum becomes the best forum in the history of the internet. We must learn that people make mistakes, and forgive them of these mistakes. We must learn not to get angry at the slight things. We must learn that when a troll appears, the only way to defeat them is to point them out to the moderators and ignore their jabs and jibes. We must learn that it is not the quantity of posts that matter, but the quality. We must learn that if a forum member breaks the rules, then that forum member is threatening the very thing that makes this forum great. We must learn these things, and help others to learn these things. We cannot allow ourselves to be torn apart by petty things. We cannot allow ourselves to be taken in by oneupsmanship. Together we can accomplish these things. Together, we can stand united against the horrors of the internet and keep them from crawling their way into our forum. You should not ask, "What can my fellow members do for me?" Instead you should ask, "What can I do for my fellow members?" The following are definitions of the terms used in this post. Double Posting: Double posting is posting two times or more in a short time. The excuse for this is usually that a person had an additional thought they wanted to add. This can be accomplished without double posting by editing your previous post. The edit button is to the left of the quote button. Team Spamming: Team spamming is posting after another person, having them reply, then posting after them again over and over. It is not considered spamming, however, if it is a debate. This is usually done in the "For fun" threads, where there are no debates. Trolling: Trolling is when one person attempts to get a rise out of another person. This person will say or do anything to make people angry, mainly for attention. The ONLY way to defeat a troll is to ignore them and report them to a moderator so that they may be banned quickly and efficiently. Engaging a troll could result in a ban for yourself as well. Trolls are there to make you mad. When you get mad and try to make them mad, they laugh at you, resulting in you getting madder. Don't be a bad fish. Don't take the bait. Rehashed Post: A rehashed post is posting the same thing another person already posted, but in your own words. This is a relatively common occurrence in new threads, however past that initial chaos of people trying to get their points across, it's inexcusable. If you have nothing to contribute, do not post. If you agree with a post, instead of copy pasting that post and editing some of the words in it, quote them and list why you agree with them. Oneupsmanship: This is an age old practice. Two competitive people go out of their way to compete in everything that it's possible to compete in to prove their superiority to one another. What this USUALLY results in is an endless argument and a bunch of spam. If you are going to be competitive against another forum member, do so in a video game. Spambot: A Spambot is a person or program that spams links to try to get people to buy things. Moderator: A moderator is a member who is a part of the "Moderating Team". These members have the power to ban, mute, and change any part of a person's profile. The list of moderators can be found at the bottom of the community index, just above the list of members who have visited the site in the last 24 hours. It is to the right of "Today's Top 20 Posters". Format: Format, as used in this instance, is the general layout and color of a website.
  12. Let me start by firstly saying that I'm honored to have become the June Member of the Month. As a matter of fact, I'm so honored that my brain has had an honor overload and is now in a state of severe "writer's block". I guess you could call it "Honor Lock". Bad jokes aside, I really am honored to have been chosen as Member of the Month. Thank you to those who picked me, especially Vitamin PWN who believed in me from Day 1. Or 2. Well, at the very least week 1. Anyways, special thanks to Vitamin PWN for being there as my "rage sponge", without him I would most certainly have been banned more than once by now. He get's a shoutout before the shoutouts! Now for probably the only part of this post you will read. The shoutouts. The are in no specific order, and are unranked. 1. Mr.DirectBiggles: A constant source of fun and amusement, Tim and I have had many an adventure in the Haloverse and the world of Minecraft. Many of those adventures either involved one of us carrying the other (me carrying him in Swat and him carrying me in Slayer) or us trolling each other or Gazzy. Poor, poor Gazzy. 2. One: Also a source of constant amusement, we don't play together nearly as much as maybe we should. While One is a "PC Snob", he's a fun member and a hilarious person. While we've had our times where we didn't see eye to eye (and made everyone else evacuate the shoutbox in the ensuing flame war), even that was a bit fun. Poor, poor shoutbox. 3. fzdw11 and SEKC TTBLSSH: The only two members to ever stump me in the Ask The Director thread. Also the two members with the hardest names to remember how to type. Congrats on your awards! 4. Choot 'em: A member I've known for a long time, and one of the most honored members of the forum. No shoutout list is complete without Mr. Hard Worker (aka Choot 'em). He was also the inspiration for the "Halo Did You Knows" thread that has been so popular. 5. Spectral Jester: Definitely one of the best members of this forum, Spectral Jester has been a moderator since as long as I can remember. Which isn't saying much because my memory is shot, but he's been a mod for longer than most members have been members. It's always a fun day when Spectral Jester talks in the shoutbox. 6. Bob: Bob isn't on much, but when he is he takes the time to get to know everyone as much as possible. Bob is well deserving of his Legendary Member status, having served so much time as a Mod that seeing his name not in gold or yellow would probably cause such a shock that peoples monitors would explode. Some of the best conversations I've had on this forum were with Bob. 7. Absolute Dog: Considered to be one of the best moderators ever to grace the forum, AD was also the only moderator to ban me. Twice. Although I deserved it (and would have banned myself, given the circumstances) AD was the only mod to actually do it. I think that's what earned him the "Tough Mod" award. xD I got my revenge in a few of the playdates, and consider AD to be a friend. 8. Father Bullet: A member who's hardly seen or heard these days, Father Bullet is one of the greats when it comes to members. While most of our communications are over XBL (playing minecraft no less), he's a friend to all. 9. Bobo Magroto: A member who I don't always understand, but never fails to make me laugh. I've acted as a translator between him and AD more than once, usually laughing so hard neither could understand me xD 10. theorix: One of the best Halo players of all time, theorix and I have had many an argument on the forums. Each of them were in fun, and sometimes turned into us tagteaming someone who did something they shouldn't have, but I consider him a friend because of how similar our sense of humors are. 11. Azaxx: This annoying Australian a**hat (Just kidding, couldn't resist the alliteration xD) is one of the reasons for me getting above 1000 posts and as many awards that I do. Our competition has gotten us both in trouble more than once, and is one of the reasons for me getting banned by AD more than once. xD But, it's gotten us both pretty high up the totem pole and has caused us to learn as well. So thank you for being inferior Azaxx. Otherwise I never would have gotten here. ;D lmao jk xD 12. GermanShepherdD: For being the best Halo Swat player on the forum and for being one of the most random people ever of all time. He comes on with his emoticon at very unpredictable times, and catching him when he's at his keyboard to ask how to get his award is like playing a mission on Reach LASO. xD Also one of the funnier members of the forum, I've never seen him get angry at someone. 13. Archangel Tyrael: A nice guy who is willing to help people who are in a bind. Playing Halo with him was one of the most fun times I have ever had on Reach. Even when we were pwnd at CTF by a bunch of J-Taggers (no really, went back and checked. 2 sniper spawns, 2 shotgun spawns, 1 rocket spawn, and one person with sniper and shotgun, one with sniper and rockets, and another with rockets and shotgun within 30 seconds of each new round, and all weapons with full ammo). We built some memories playing Anniversary. 14. Serene Mystic: When Mystic first came to the forum, she was all about Swat. Then she 1v1ed me in Swat and couldn't even come close to beating me. Even when someone else who wasn't good at Swat joined. Then we played a certain map and a certain gametype, and now she prefers slayer. I like to think I influenced that decision. xD Serene and I have had some great times arguing with each other about silly things, playing Halo, and discovering the easter eggs in the Anniversary maps. 15. EGYPTIANGHETTO: The member who makes some of the best signatures of all time, and the one who's made all of the signatures I've used while I've been here. Funny guy, haven't played Halo with him yet, but would like to in the future. Last but not least, Twam. The one who made it all possible with his Forum God powers. All hail the mighty Twam and may you bathe in the glory of his light. To anyone not mentioned, I'd still like to thank you. So, thank you. You being here is what keeps this awesome forum running as awesomely as it does. Give yourself a pat on the back. I am not sure where to put my customary MoM suggestion, so I'll just stick it here. My suggestion is that a link to the rules is put in the bar at the top of the page. Well, here's to the start of a journey. Let's make this month the best one ever.
  13. Ladies and Gentlemen can i have your attention, i would like to introduce the June MoM. You may know him from such threads as "tips to avoid the rrod and the rdod, how to clean and maintain your xbox 360 game disc, halo did you knows, and finally the Community map pack thread, he's one of the most helpful members of the forum, i'd like to introduce you to the June MoM The Director! as tradition we asked hiim some question the we post for all of you to see and here they are Best memory of gaming? My first perfection. It was so amazing. It was in Halo 3, and I was in a tank. It was actually the first time I had gotten in a Scorpion in BTB before, and my connection was perfect. I drove around sniping people with a scorpion until I heard the "Game Over" and saw the perfection medal. It was bloody magnificent. Their entire team started conspiring to take me out and I held them off. They got into warthogs and died. They got into Choppers and died. They picked up power weapons and died. They even got into the banshee and the other scorpion and died. Glorious. Favorite science fiction movie/book? My favorite Sci-Fi book of all time is the original Fall of Reach. A close second would be March to the Sea. As far as movies go, I, Robot. Favorite Halo game of the series and why? Halo 2. I loved Halo 2 because with all of the glitches and easter eggs, it felt like a sandbox game rather than a linear FPS. if you were stuck on a desert island with one person from the forums, who would it be and why? Probably Absolute Dog. He has survival training, I have survival training. Not only would we be able to survive it but we just might be able to make it back. Also Deserted* xD your best/funniest gaming moment? Betraying LoFi with a plasma grenade on the community Playdate. Reason why was because I called out that it was going to be a betrayal a good 2 seconds before it actually happened. xD favourite halo weapon ever? Gauss Cannon. One shot kill, can decimate vehicles, and is (imo) SORELY underused in Matchmaking. Pick any member you would like to know more about? GermanShepherdD. All I know about him is that that he is really good at Reach and his favorite emoticon is a red dog. Where do you feel you contribute most to the site? Probably in the 343i Game Help forum. Helping people is one of my favorite things to do on this site, and I do all that I can do to help anyone who needs it. What was your favorite Halo music? Halo 3 OST. The music for Halo 3 was amazing. When did you start playing video games? Back when I was 3 or 4 I was playing Doom for the PC pretty religiously. Been addicted to video games ever since. What was the first game? Doom I. Shortly thereafter Doom 2. lol My first console game was Super Mario Bros. Boxers or Breifs?( tighty whities if you are not a real man!) Neither! I wear shorts underneath my pants. More room to breathe. Boxers and Briefs cut off circulation to areas of my body that I deem very important. KFC or Popyes? KFC. The only experience I've had with Popeyes left me puking for three days due to salmonella. Chuck Norris or Bruce Lee? Chuck. Bruce is dead, so his awesomeness has a limit. Chuck is not only still alive, but is very fit for his age. Why/when did you first playing halo? Two weeks after it first came out. It was in my Computer Technologies class. One of my friends had installed it to a flashdrive and saved it on the school computers. We played Multiplayer when the teachers weren't looking. xD If you were stuck in a room for the rest of your life, can you could bring 3 things, what would they be? X-Box, Gamefly, and my Girlfriend. Modern warfare 3/Battlefield 3? BF3 looks so much more fun than MW3. I'm too poor to afford to get either of them though Save the Rachni queen or destoy her? (sorry, you all should know by now I REALLY love Mass Effect, lol) Both. I've done 5 playthroughs of ME2. XBL gaming achievement you're most proud of? I'm not proud of any single achievement. But I am proud of the fact that I have 100% achievements on all of the Elder Scrolls games. so congratulation to our newest MoM the Director
